Hadn't Hoedt been whingeing in the week before the game ?
-
Well to be fair Mahrez is the sort of do it yourself game winner that few sides possess. Think we'd have done far better with Mahrez. Few sides wouldn't. Mind you he's the sort of player who might not take to oafs like Shakespeare.
-
Possibly, but there were some nasty periods all the same, didn't find getting dicked 8-0 by Everton any too fun, nor 7-1 to Leeds a while afterwards. Think that was about ' 72 wasn't it ? Not a great year.

Alehouse football ring any bells? It really was that (well by today's standards anyway) No-one cared anyway, we went to see the Saints win.

Seems to me that the average age of top of the pile international footballers is getting lower and lower. Mind you, given the age at which most players start nowadays they're probably burnt out by 28 or 29. Looks to be the case with nearly all of those we've sold for biggish fees these last years. Hardly one of them seems to play regularly now.

Random Ex- Academy Player Transfer News no-one will care about...

And Griffit plays semi-pro non-league football at Aulnoye in the north of France. -
Perhaps he wasn't even rated above the Chelsea Ladies coach, which would about sum up the value of the list really.

Depends what those people want really doesn't it. If they want half decent results then it'll be OK, if they still maintain that they want to be entertained, well then who knows. I'd like to have seen some of these "entertain me" fans back in the 60's and 70s, some matches were that dire but in those days winning counted above all else.

I see that Holland has now been signed up for 2 more years. Good move, his contributions were pretty valuable towards the end of the season. -
Well I think they did sort of almost sell Barkley to Chelsea but he wanted to go to Spurs and blew the deal out and then conveniently got injured somehow so that he wasn't expected to play for Everton anyway. The power of a player to **** off everybody concerned and still collect a handsome salary anyway at it's finest. The Pochettino magnet was obviously turned up to full power there.
-
Don't see that there's any likelihood of him ever returning to Saints in any capacity whatsoever anyway so it would be for academic discussion only. Mind you that probably wouldn't stop some smartass getting a grant to discuss it .........

interesting point there. A lot of far better defenders than Koeman had at his disposal at Everton. I mean Van Dijk and Alderweireld would probably do wonders for his side, compared to say Williams and Jagielka. Baines is a decent defender but time is showing on his game now, Bertrand is far,far better right now. I thought the young lad Kenny was just awful yesterday and Holgate is a bit hit and miss. If Koeman had VvD, Toby and Bertrand they'd not be in the state they are today. Not that we had VvD and Toby at the same time of course but Fonté did a reasonable job in those days.
-
Highly unlikely. There are far better managers about than Koeman. Pochettino will get the next "really big job" that's up for grabs, after that who knows. Koeman has the same problem that Van Gaal had, just can't resist a bit of dutch at an exhorbitant price. Mind you Memphis is doing quite well at Lyon with a simple coach and a good'ish side for their league.
-
He also started filling his squad with overated dutch and no hopers from Spain. Sounds a bit familiar really. Oh and Siggurdsson, never quite undestood why they were so desperate to pay 45 million or so for him.
-
Sewn up implies done, dusted and any other expression meaning completed or terminated. Sown up, well I don't know what that means really, sown up the top field perhaps. Not of any great importance but as you make a point of explaining what "sown up" means perhaps getting it right is preferable in this case.
-
Has he really gained the same level that he had before the major injury? I don't really remember, some players don't you know. Look at JRod, he'll not be the same player again.

None too keen on the Chinese people huh..

Nope, didn't happen.

I'd definite give Holland more time, looked handy at the end of the season, Alsop obviously has potential but letting him open probably isn't doing him any favours. We definitely need to finish with these O/1 and 15/2 situations. Get in at least one stick in the mud opener and we'll not be a bad side at all. You know the Boycott/Cook sort of bloke, takes all morning to make 30 but he's still there at lunch, wearing down the bowlers. -
Feel free to post news about new openers.
-
Don't know that we've got away with much this season apart from the September blip, we've been quite well placed all season apart from these last 2 games. Obviously our lack of 2 serious openers for these games (and the wash-out at Uxbridge) has been detrimental to us. When you're always 2 down after a couple of overs and your 3 and 4 are facing charged up seamers with a new ball you're in trouble. Adams has been pretty useless of late , Weatherly didn't really do much and Alsop isn't an opening bat.
-
Yay, batted out the day. Middlesex down. Need 2 new openers for next season. Roussow at 3, Vince at 4.
-
Berg obviously felt Abbott should do his share. Holland has been a real pillar here, should get his cap for what he's done today if he doesn't already have it.
-
What a lot of nervous nellies you all are . We're creeping onwards, mind you must have been hard for Vince to last all those overs for 30.
-
Holding up but some bad light would be excessively handy.
