  1. was he in charge then?? I thought it was Andy Oldknow at the start. NC didn't become a director of SFC for quite a while or so i seem to remember.Interestingly I read somewhere today that AP referred to him sometime at the end of last season as the "acting chief exectutive". In passing heard a bit of interesting news today (although it goes back to Friday) Did you all know that David Jones has been appointed financial director at Plymouth Argyle??
  2. I thought that was one of the succession of Willamses that they turned out, seem to remember Williams being replaced by Williams who was in his turn replaced by Williams.Same dirty little crap that got Morgan sent off last season I expect, fast and tricky but overly free with his elbows.
  3. Have we actually sold a player since he's been in charge??
  4. which he probably is. Didn't leftback tell us that there was a "Connolly Issue". Whilst on the subject I just cannot understand the management or rather non management of this problem. We knew (apparently) that Barney wasn't 100% we knew that Lambert wasn't 100% (thanks to AP's pre-season if you believe stuff that was on this forum yesterday), Connolly is treatment room regular, yet we don't obtain a striker in the loan window, other than Bignall that is and we lost him because of lack of game time. How can anyone tell me that with all the data to hand we could not manage this issue in a better way. There must have been at least 1 palatable striker available on loan surely.
  5. No beef with that, but if we were going to do it then last May would have been a very appropriate time.We procrastinated and even confirmed that all was rosy in the garden, then 4 games into the season we sack him with no replacement lined up. That cost us points because Wilkins was just a waste of time. Pardew didn't become a bellend between May and August now did he?. Those stories, without foundation as likely as not, that Markus wanted him sacked but NC didn't, now wouldn't they ring truer if it was the other way round??
  6. I really don't know. He certainly wouldn't have been my first choice anyway. There were many stories circulating at that time about Les Reed calling most of the shots and a sort of "yes Mr Reed, No Mr Reed,3 bags full Mr Reed" candidate would be chosen.Probably far from the truth but they were certainly put about. To me Adkins is so so but I'd personally be pretty peeved if any of 5 or 6 other championship managers weren't at least considered as an equally good or better candidate.
  7. I find that "Adam's father" is a bit loose lipped about things he should be quiet about if all these quotes credited to him are to be believed. He must know that Weston is just going to repeat them to someone who then repeats them on this forum. Posters have been banned for telling tales out of class.
  8. Probably isn't. Just another player who isn't getting a game at his parent club trying to drum up some interest now that we have a transfer window coming up. If he was any cop he'd still be t Norwich I suppose.Probably the type of deal we'll be running after though.
  9. no I asked if they had said that we were going to spend money. I have money available for anything I want (well within reason) Doesn't mean I'm going to spend it though.
  10. really?? they've said money is available certainly, then they've added riders about players not being available, improvement only, may be this time, maybe next time, maybe in 12 months. In fact they seem to be preparing us to be underwhelmed again.
  11. Who said we were going to spend "money" then. I personally doubt if we'll spend much more than we receive.
  12. We shall see but the flaw in this argument is our away form. true we're getting 1.85 points a game overall, but away from home we're only on 1.4 and we have 15 away games to play. On our performance against Huddersfield or Carlisle is it reasonable to expect us to go to Oldham,Brighton and Charlton and win. Our season will revolve around the next 2 or 3 games,ie before we can get any reinforcements in, Charlton away, Huddersfield at home,Exeter at home/ Lose any 2 of those 3 and automatic promotion is gone. Probably won't happen though.
  13. Anyone would take10 million, but we won't as it won't get offered.
  14. not the point, are these the same coaches or not, that's the question. I though there had been pretty major turmoil down at the academy in recent times, perhaps there are still one or two people there who were with us in 2005/6 though.Jason Dodd is youth team manager isn't he? but when Theo was there he was with Eastleigh or Bath or something like that. Perhaps Mark Chamberlain was a coach with us when Theo was at the academy. I really don't know. I asked out of genuine interest.
  15. Walsall is irrelevant it's a game we should win fairly easily anyway. The whole effect of the "fixture backlog" on Saints is that we have now 3 away midweek games instead of 3 week-end games. As I've noted before we must be the team in the division who have played the most home games and +3 midweek away games is the only factor that needs to be taken into consideration.15 away games in 19 weeks is already a tall order, intersperse 13 home games (inc Blackpool Cup Game) into the mix and it becomes a very tall order for a side that is already behind in the points/games ratio. We shall need 56/60 points from our remaining 27 games the fact that we need to get them midweek at Hartlepool and Oldham doesn't help.
  16. And I think that far far too much is being made of this arbitrary situation, we are 10th out of 24,defeat at Charlton (should that happen of course) could put us below mid table. I personally would think NA is 6 points shy of where he would have expected to be at this stage. To me 30 points from 13 games is a reasonable expectation given our fixtures in that period.24 from 13 is limit acceptable, maybe unacceptable. I do not doubt that he got chewed out last week.
  17. A five year deal means virtually nothing, if Arsenal or Liverpool come calling he will leave, and probably for nowhere near the 10 million mentioned. As I've said, it looks to me as if someone is determined to get him out of here as soon as possible if the offer is right.
  18. Once again, the price we get for AOC (or anyone else) will depend on how much he wants to get out of the door.It will also depend on what has been written into his contract. For all we know there could be a "if a big team comes calling,I'm out of here for .. million clause" It is pointless arguing about want to sell and naming numbers when we know nothing about preset conditions. It might well be worth mentioning that Theo had a biggish contract with Nike from about 14 onwards, he was probably of more use to them at arsenal than struggling southampton. I have no idea whether AOC has this sort of contract or not.
  19. On this point one might point out that Sir Alex had no qualms about benching Rooney(or dropping him) the instant that he became troubled for whatever reason or other. I think our successive managers have been extrordinarily weak over Lambert.Any other manager would have benched him and at least tried another solution.
  20. no, obviously they know something about him, Wenger left behind a powerful scouting system in Japan from the time he was coaching Grampus 8 so the lad must have all the attributes I guess. What I was meaning to say was that Arsenal do sign a lot of very young players and give them a lot of time to show what they can do. In fact AW believes that 18 months acclimatisation is about right for any player coming from a different football culture (as with Naasri) so he doesn't expect a great deal from them before hand. Thus when a young player is upwardly mobile shall we say his agent puts about Arsenal rumours whether there is any basis for them or not. Morgan spoke about it in the French press sometime last year. Said he was flattered but Arsenal had a habit of looking at almost every player with an ounce of talent so there was nothing to be assumed from their interest.AW had Morgan watched again last summer at Toulon and again in the Euro 2011 qualifiers, doesn't mean much because the scout (in this case Gilles Grimandi) probably watched out for 5 or 6 other players as well.
  21. And Arsenal have just signed an unknown Japanese high school player. The fact that they do this sort of thing will always give credence to this sort of gossip.
  22. In particular Oldham who have 3 games in hand on Sheffield W. then again it's only Oldham.Oldham FFS...we are on a par with Oldham despite all our facilities, our expensive players, our so called purchasing power.
  23. Must be concerted effort then Stu is pleading exactly the same argument over on the Ugly.
  24. Difficult to say because of the 3 match "Wilkin's Disaster Period". 3 matches for 0 points changes everything.
  25. But you have to ask yourself why there is all this media interest, exactly from where they got the coachs' comparisons Sorry but to me it just sounds like an out and out sales campaign for the lad.
