I've got the (relatively) rare one of Matty in the 1998 World Cup kit - which of course he wasn't selected by the ***** hoddle. It's on my model of the Dell!

Any ideas for pubs? the crown inn is a real ale emporium (almost) and its right by the famous railway viaduct - google maps reckons its about a mile to the ground http://thecrowninn.110mb.com/ probably one of the better pubs in stockport from the beer point of view

I think it's possibly based on events on a similar scale that happened a couple of thousand years ago...... "Decline and Fall of the Lowe(man) Empire"

Like everything in life, there is always somebody who will buy an old wreck. There is a price for everything and I sadly have no doubt that someone will buy them. In their case it looks as if it's going down to the bargain basement, rejects and unwanted returns section in ikea

This was one of the most positive aspects of the game. for me too. As UWS said, Millwall have been tipped by a lot of press/pundits for automatic promotion. They came on really strongly at the end of last season and have managed to keep most of the side together - and it showed. I thought millwall looked a really useful team at times on Saturday and had a couple of spells where we were constantly on the back foot. They had a couple of really useful players too. I don't think we will play too many teams of Millwalls' calibre and I won't be surprised if Millwall are up at the top for most of the season. So this was a really good starter for us and as many people have posted, it was almost a shock to see us defend well. huddersfield will be a tough one too - again tipped by many to do well, so a point there will be a really good result. then we've got Swindon, Brentford and Stockport. Of these I think Brentford will be the toughest, but I think we could well have cleared more than our current -9 after this round of matches. Going back to saturday, Morgan impressed me more than anyone - although clearly unfit and lacking pace his first touch and layoffs reminded me of a young MLT. I reckon he will do really well in the 3rd tier. It makes a change to be very (well almost) optimistic after only one game of the season!

to be fair to them, they are one of several very poor (alright, crap springs to mind) teams in the prem this season - so they should be down there mixing it with the worst of them for the whole season

Still my favourite (apart from the legs!) - from the Coat of Arms of Soton - with the Hampshire Rose....... http://www.ngw.nl/int/gbr/s/southamp.htm or even tastier. http://www.southamptonarms.co.uk/

I've had a s**t morning and needed cheering up - luckily I read the above link and comments. They really brought tears to my eyes - in fact I haven't stopped rolling around laughing since I read it. When we were going down the pan a few months ago I didn't expect anyone to give any sympathy, especially that lot down the road, so it's justice that I can now gloat at their situation. I'm sure they will survive as we have, but it's worth making the most of it while we can.

It's got to be one of the coldest grounds I've been to - and that include aberdeen on a snowy January night

I work in a small office with a Chelsea season ticket holder, a Brentford season ticket holder and a Stoke fan. We've also got a consultant in from Derby this week who is a season ticket holder at pride park. All of them came in this morning saying what a great appointment Pardew is for us - which cheered me up no end. I was initially underwhelmed, probably because he was not on my radar - but on reflection I reckon it is a very shrewd move by our new owners. Somebody posted that it shows that the new owners don't have ambition. However the ambition is to get out of the 3rd tier, and they've brought Pardew in who clearly has excelled at this level. I haven't been soo excited for years

Problem is Eric, it's 40+ degrees. 80% humidity - so every dream is a wet dream

Had any jealous emails from mates yet? Here are some of the polite ones i've got today:

If you are bored with take overs/buyouts/purchases etc, Ive just had an email from an anorak mate of mine up north, which I'll copy and paste here.......... The FL's website continues to say that the date for the pre-draw for who gets a bye straight into R2 of the JPT is "to be confirmed", and that the draw for R1 proper will be either Sat 8th or Sat 15th (on SoccerAM). However, a Google search links to a news article on Morecambe's site that says that the FL have confirmed that the draw proper will be on the latter of those two Saturdays, and that : A new policy has also been adopted in the determining of the 16 Round 1 byes following recommendations at club meetings. Clubs can no longer receive byes in consecutive seasons, so any club who received a bye in 2008-09 will not be eligible for a bye in 2009-10. Clubs who received byes last season were: Northern Section: Bury, Carlisle United, Chester City, Darlington, Huddersfield Town, Lincoln City, Rochdale, Rotherham United Southern Section: Cheltenham Town, Gillingham, Hereford United, Luton Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Peterborough United, Walsall, Wycombe Wanderers This season's JPT north-south splits haven't been announced yet, so I'll have a go myself. Since there are far more southerners than northerners in the bottom two divisions, - Burton should surely be classified as northern for the JPT (having been called southern for the Lge Cup), - Walsall will probably be northern (as they are in the Lge Cup), rather than southern (last season's JPT), - and one more southerner has to be made northern, so probably Shrewsbury. Therefore I'd split it as : North : Carlisle, Hartlepool, Uddersfield, Leeds, Oldham, Stockport, Tranmere, Walsall, Accy Stan, Bradfud, Burton, Bury, Chesterfield, Crewe, Darlo, Grimsby, Lincoln, Macc, Morecambe, Notts Co, Port Vale, Rochdale, Rotherham, Shrewsbury. South : Brentford, Brighton, Brzzl Rov, Charlton, Colchester, Exeter, Gillingham, Orient, Millwall, MK, Norwich, Southend, Swindon, Wycombe, Yeovil, Sthmpton, Aldershot, Barnet, Bournemth, Cheltenham, Dag & Red, Hereford, Nthmpton, Torquay with byes into R2 being given to 8 of these 16 Northerners: Hartlepool, Leeds, Oldham, Stockport, Tranmere, Accy Stan, Bradfud, Burton, Chesterfield, Crewe, Grimsby, Macc, Morecambe, Notts Co, Port Vale, Shrewsbury. So Leeds and Udders and Oldham have each got a 50/50 chance of going straight into R2. And byes into R2 to be given to 8 of these 19 Southerners: Brentford, Brighton, Brzzl Rov, Charlton, Colchester, Exeter, Orient, Millwall, Norwich, Southend, Swindon, Yeovil, Sthmpton, Aldershot, Barnet, Bournemth, Dag & Red, Nthmpton, Torquay. So Brentford, Sthmpton, and Barnet have each got less of a chance (42% probability) of going straight into R2. Proof that it's better to be a northerner !

Had a mail from a northern mate about Stockport C. they have a creditors meeting this friday and if they (ie the Inland rev) doesn't agree on the CVA they get a bonus of -15 pts to start next season: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A53865624 as mentioned, presumably there must be some deadline by which the FL will want to know that we are a going concern (off the pitch at least)

the bit that worries me from the echo is : If they are a big group surely they don' have to claim they've got the funds - not another pinnacle I hope
