  1. A bit further down the article it confirms that they could well be deducted more points next season as well (what a shame :partyman:.................... :butthead:
  2. I think a lot of us who were there will agree with that. But it really shows how we have progressed since the first couple of months of the season. As AP said over the weekend in response to snide comments from Simon Grayson......... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/football_league/article7061600.ece also in the Times this morning in Tony Cascarinos Fiver,
  3. Back from the match at last, For me this was a game of two completely different halves. First half I thought our football was outstanding and 1-0 really flattered Leeds. Our defence & midfield were tremendous and we played them off the park. The second half started completely differently - Leeds came out playing very physically, but what impressed me was that Saints more than matched them at that as well and I can't remember them having a clear chance. Ref crap, amost but not quite as bad as Tranmere last week.
  4. and in the Times today..........no cash coming their way if the FA has their way "FA prepares to hold on to Portsmouth bounty" http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article7053083.ece
  5. last time I went there in 2001 (facup replay) it was 3-0 to us - at half time. but I seem to have forgotten what the final score was!!! Any one else there - it was a f**ing wet night
  6. I went to the semi but my wife didn't (we are both on the database), so I was going to wait till next week so I could buy two together. I phoned this morning, and the ticket office confirmed that they had sold nearly 40k and couldn't guarantee that I would be able to get 2 tickets next week. So I bought mine this morning. My son has bought two through Carlisle with no probs.
  7. They'll be nipping into the Seven Stars behind the high court - very popular with all the legal types. Happens to be a great wetherspoons a couple of hundred yards up the road too - The Knights Templar
  8. having been away for a week I just got mine on the fone. The lady in the ticket office said they only had chapel and corners left - no idea how many though
  9. If you have the full list of 35 games handy (inc results) - any chance of posting them here? Would be nice to browse through - ta
  10. The best one for me was in the times this morning.......... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article7000871.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=4031667 the best bit being the first para....
  11. Hello Eric, Didn't know you cared!!! Hmmm Chicken in a basket in Goodfella's sounds good
  12. Now Risdale & Redknapp would have made an outstanding team - they would have caused carnage together:eek:
  13. It's really odd how these things come around. I've just got back from a boozy christmas lunch reunion with a couple of old friends at the Bree Louise pub near Euston station (real ale mecca - camra members 50p off a pint!! Highly recommended). There we were, three old farts all in our late 50's, one Saints (me), one chester and one swansea fan. Strangely our conversation was not a million miles away from this thread. In my case I mentioned Terry Paines goal at L Orient in 1966 that took us up to the hallowed turf of the 1st division. What a night that was! Our memories then changed and we dwelled on the darkest eras of our clubs. I was at Forest for the last game last season and to see the support for a club that I have followed for well over 40 years brought tears to my eyes - we were relegated but we still had a great and for me a very proud time. Then in June/July of this year I honestly thought, and I mean that, that I would not have a club to support (when I'm bored I remind myself what could have been had Mr Liebherr not been our saviour). I really thought that there was a real chance that we would go out of business - I have never felt so low in my life. What a contrast to the present when along with most saints fans, I haven't enjoyed following our club as much for a long long time. Let's put this into it into perspective - my friend from Chester (Holt to be precise) cannot believe the position they are in. Bankrupt, bottom of the BSP and as he says, there is no future at the moment (this how I felt last summer - but let's make this relative), and he reckons that they will not survive (rumour is that will merge with wrexham). He was telling me of some of the wheeling and dealing behind the scenes which led to their huge points deduction (I was so embarrassed I had to have a pint of the Acorn Brewery 7th Xmas Ale to calm me down) My other old friend is a swans fan (from neath). He reminded me that in 1981 they were top of the old Div 1 and we were second for a short period (I had remembered) - from where they plummeted down to the old 4th. They were on the verge of being relegated out of the league but survived on the last day. he couldn't believe that they were also 5 mins from going out of business - but look at them now. I get back to the office and there are the usual smug Chelsea set - even in their darkest days they haven't experienced anything like saints, chester or swansea. Luckily we also have a Doncaster and a brentford fan in our office. I have enjoyed really good times following saints, but I have also hit the the absolute bottom of the pit. It's great to talk and meet with fans of other clubs who have experienced life as bad or worse than we have.
  14. Everytime I drive past their depot next to the M25 near Heathrow I think what a great sponsor they would be (apart from the tacky christmas lights on their roof)
  15. Tricky decision for Norwich too - thay have a massive game at home to 'uddersfield on sat. So they won't want to pick up any injuries tomorrow night either. I'm going for a 1-0 win
  16. Working in London I often talk to your average chelsea/spurs/arsenal etc etc fans who are still under the impression that we are still in administration and favourites for relegation. They obviously read the daily mail and probably look at nothing other than the premier league. The most interesting conversations are invariably with the resident Brentford and Doncaster Rovers fans
  17. butafter the zywiec I couldn't possibly pronounce it............ but it's good
  18. another bottle of the unpronouncable zywiec just being opened toc elebrate
  19. warsaw is going wild!!!
  20. met a polish guy tonight who thought raziak & saga still played for us and were two of the premierships best strikers I didn't correct him
  21. thanks for the updates I've just caught up
  22. internet is very slow I hear Norwich have just equalised?
  23. Warsaw calling, Warsaw calling (not walsall) been banished here for a week - just got back from the bar drinking some unpronouncible beers
  24. Great review - what a brilliant evening. Can't help but be jealous! Wish I had been there. The last great saints legend in Dubai was Peter Osgood (RIP) who did a fantastic evening at the Country Club (also RIP) about a year before he died. UAEPete and my goodself got absolutely plastered. Ossie was outstanding and I have many signed momentos from that evening that I will treasure for ever
  25. The biggest highlight (well almost) for me last night was seeing Franny B on sky. What a legend - Southampton through and through, just like the majority of on here. One of the saddest things is that I wasn't there to see his goal (any body got a youtube link?)
