  1. Market Porter in Borough Market could be popular (at least by me) - ace real ale pub and 5 mins or less from London Bridge station - then 15-20 mins to charlton
  2. ............meanwhile, getting back to the footy............. A very informative piece. The bit that I had forgotten and surprised me......... We were 9th when we beat Brentford on Dec11 and then went upto 5th when we beat H'fld on 28th dec and haven't been out of the top 5 since. In hindsight it was probably a good thing that the game was called off
  3. Went to the infamous 2nd division game when we got hammered 6-2(?) in 1976(?) when some bearded charlton striker scored 4 or more goals (derek hales?). (My memory isn't what it used to be) All I can remember apart from getting hammered (on the pitch) was that The Valley was in a sorry state and the huge terrace was still there
  4. sign me up!
  5. Cracking result - and to fair it was a half decent game as some other posters have already commented. Great advert for 3rd division footy. Pity about the 10k crowd though for a top of the table clash - and almost a local derby - only 40 ish miles apart. Sounded really hollow on the telly
  6. almost the best -(try the Bree Louise nr Euston - outstanding plus 50p discount for Camra members !) Market Porter is outstanding (see my note above somewhere) and so easy to get to in London (5 mins from my office - so I'll be there about 5pm)
  7. Not being a ST holder and working on the assumption that I won't get a ticket even though I go to most away games, I went to Orient at lunchtime as I work in London. Bought a ticket in the south stand nextish to the saints fans (in the east stand). £20 no problems. I asked how tickets were going - trying not to sound like a saints fan. The answer was very slowly and they always have pay on the day. Even though they have had a good run recently they are still getting less than 5000 for home games so it shouldn't be a problem for those wanting to pay on the day (but don't quote me on that)
  8. Real Ale pubs near London Bridge Station : The Market Porter in Borough Market usually has 12 to 15 real ales on tap - but they are not keen on football colours beng worn The Rake - outstanding Pub - but is v small and gets full quickly
  9. Hope you've left then Eric?
  10. I really hope it's on the Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May. We would probably fill Home Park on our own - and I'm sure PA wouldn't mind the extra cash
  11. Certainly agree with this assessment. I think he left us a year too early and going to Wolvs didn't do him any favours. Another season with us and I am sure he would have developed into a much better player than he was at Wolves.
  12. Orient have really surprised me (and loads of others) having a great run at the moment, but hey, great memories of '66 and '78 should be enough
  13. Any win is a great win and the sooner we are out of this division the better. You are absolutely right. Hope you lot go up as well - 3 south coast teams plus p***th in the championship sounds great
  14. Thanks - a good site apart from the errors noted above. Apart from that the stats are the same as on the OS http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/MatchReport/0,,10280~53139,00.html impressed with the google earth location map - why would anyone need that? (unless you are a manure fan of course and only know that manchester is somewhere near london)
  15. They have the second best away form in Lge 1 over the the past five away games, after MK Dons and just ahead of bmth so it won't be a pushover http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/aform.html so I'll go for a close/tight/scrappy 4-0 to us
  16. from football365 stats pages - they have a run-in that predicts final table based on season form to date and recent form http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/runin.html Team/Current Pts/games to Play/max Possible Pts/Highest Possible Finish/Lowest Possible Finish/Projected Points-Season Form/ Recent Form 1 Brighton & Hove Albion....59 16 107 1 24 89.4 91.0 2 AFC Bournemouth............58 13 ..97 1 24 80.1 86.6 3 Southampton...................52 16 100 1 24 79.2 80.8 4 Huddersfield Town...........53 14 ..95 1 24 75.4 76.8 5 Peterborough United...... 53 14 ..95 1 24 75.4 76.8 6 Charlton Athletic..............47 16 ..95 1 24 71.0 72.6 7 Milton Keynes Dons.........52 12 ..88 1 24 70.0 71.2 Interesting to see that there is hardly any difference in projected points using season to date form and recent form (assumed to be last 8 games).
  17. just had a look at the highlights of walsall v rochdale http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/9408985.stm and their pitch doesn't look too bad at all compared to many in our division. Still got plenty of grass, relatively even, so should suit our "brighton style" () passing game! I've got a good feeling about this one - better than 3-0 me thinks (or hopes)
  18. When fixtures came out (and when everyone thought we were going to walk this league) - Hartlepool away on a freezing saturday in December had 0-0 written all over it. So a rearranged fixture on a freezing cold wet tuesday night in Feb still had 0-0 written all over it. Not a bad result in my opinion.
  19. Did my undergraduate geology field mapping around Cader Idris - must have gone up it a dozen times - haven't been back since!
  20. I nearly died laughing when read this bit (or was I crying in disbelief)........ How can anyone feel sorry for those cheats
  21. staying with in-laws near Ashbourne.. Considered Stoke but ended up at Crewe v Stevenage Made me glad we are not in Lge 2 - crap football, crap pitch , ground ok but Crewe is crap Oh and a real crap game 1-0 to Stevenage. On top of the the balti pie at half time was crap There were probably lots of other crap things about the afternoon as well. Oh yes the weather was crap - freezing cold and heavy snow in derbyshire
  22. you obviously didn't live here then.............(half way down article)........ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1239174/Britains-expensive-street-unveiled-homes-cost-average-5-4-million.html (Neither do I! but not far!) We've lived here since before the M25 was built (apart from a few spells abroad) because it's equi-distant between London-LHR & LGW, plus just an hours drive to SMS, and we live in the country. Not perfect but it'ss not bad either
  23. Hartlepool beating Charlton shows that next tuesday's game is going to be a tough one for us as Charlton have been doing pretty well lately. Massive crowd of 2,289 so I guess not many away fans there, unlike next week!!
  24. Come on Phil, Forget the golf - what the Clapton concert like?
  25. Yes, this is the most predictable thing about watching saints for over 40 years!!
