Don't disagree- if you're good enough, you're good enough. And frankly the path to CB is hardly chockablock with academy wunderkinds - the likes of Stephens have shown few signs that they're going to make it. If anything, bringing in a jack-of-all-trades, older player would be more prepared to take a backseat to the likes of Shaw, especially if they're also in contention for CB. Possibly the links in the summer with Demichelis, if serious, had a similar rationale.
The only saving grace with buying younger players is obviously their resale value - one reason why Ramirez will never be a complete flop. The same possibly can't be said about Osvaldo - if it's clear he's not cut out for the prem, better to quit while we're relatively ahead than wait and risk a fall in his value.
