  1. I dont deny them -and indeed have to use them in my day job. Though that's also made me aware that there is a lot of spurious precision in the world. Garbage in, garbage out and all that. Often, there's no better sense check than watching games and eyeballing things for yourself - looking at each and every cross and disentangling those that lead to assists or genuine chances from a whole load of things that might count as crosses. Happy for you to point to examples of JWP's delivery (Stoke apart) where he has come even close to replicating his deadball delivery.
  2. Is this the existential mongboard debate about shots leading to goals and wins but with an even more slippery metric? For all the open play crosses he's deemed to have had, am somewhat surprised he hasn't got more assists...
  3. At home, definitely yes. Away from home, less so as our fullbacks can't afford to play as high.
  4. More meaningless stats from the FM generation His cross or deep delivery at Stoke stood out because of how rare he threatens from open play.
  5. Fantastic delivery and very intelligent in terms of being able to pick up and execute MP's vision, though the fact that he doesn't have the defensive qualities of a Morgan or Wanayama or the creativity or attacking instinct of a Lallana or even a Davis means that he is expendable when we have to change tack. In a similar vein, it is slightly frustrating that he outsources attacking responsibilities to the fullback which is far less feasible away from home. Like Dig Dig says, he needs to define his position and role -at the very least, would like him to attempt more crosses from open play which isnt a huge ask.
  6. In the same way that taser guns are stimulating?
  7. Would be a cracking signing - seems like an all round decent character.
  8. He won't go but not for the reasons you suggest. If anything, I see quite a few affinities between our style and tottenham's sans the pace. AVB also subscribes to the pressing game and they have a lot of hardworking, industrious midfielders to execute this strategy. MP won't go because contrary to mongboard wisdom, money isn't everything and loyalty still matters.
  9. Paulinho out
  10. Looked a perfectly good challenge - the OS gallery (image 74) is inconclusive but suggests he got to the ball well before taking the man.
  11. Glasgow frequently visits my profile page and he's ITK.

    Jay Rod

Second after Lallana in terms of our attackers, though we're hardly known for our attacking prowess this season.
  13. So right here, right now, you'd prefer Davis over Gazza in goal? Think that's what most people are saying while acknowledging Davis isn't prem level quality.
  14. Because it kicked off on the touchline and most assumed AP had instigated things -in line with his previous. Not that hard to grasp...
  15. Confusing post. Saying that Davis and Gazza aren't good enough -fair enough- doesn't rule out the fact Davis might be better than Gazza and be the lesser of two evils.
  16. A rather disingenuous post by the OP, followed up by pompous posts from people who obviously weren't there. The chant was sung only in response to the touchline brawl/scuffle - there was not a peep until then. People naturally assumed that AP had started it -reasonable enough given his history of similar incidents (provocative celebrations, shoving assistant refs etc). A heat of the moment thing defending our own, not some deliberate verdict on his contribution to the club. Nothing more.
  17. Though the learning curve is arguably different with keepers. It takes longer for them to improve -most don't hit their peak till their late 20s/early 30s. Not every club has the luxury to sit and wait for that long.
  18. Didn't look like 4-4-2 from where I was in the ground. Looked like Lambert was on the right hand side where JWP usually sits.
  19. TBH, have yet to see JWP really impose himself on a game -the Stoke game being the closest example. Is a serious threat from setpieces and from the occasional cross from open play and fits our system and philosophy but I expect more from a week-in, week-out starter. Has bags of potential but should he be starting every game, I have my doubts, especially away from home where he can't simply outsource his attacking responsibilities by dropping deep and letting the fullback push on. It may be mongboard blasphemy as we put our own on a pedestal. But maybe MP is slightly torn between his commitment to bring youth through and getting results in the here and now.
  20. Not to worry Jos' pace will contain Remy
  21. VMAN's post suggests its a tactical -rather than forced change.
  22. Can understand that - took me till my mid-20s before I had the cash flow to do home and away games, though you don't need huge amounts to go to Soton twice a month. If you're not living in Soton with the social side it brings, it's a discipline to go to games and ridiculously easy to lapse.
  23. To be fair, it's ****** easy to get to home games from London - midweekers maybe exhausting but they're now the exception.
