we've had several different SAMSUNG Tv's over the years and always been pleased with the technology and picture quality. Try to get something around 100 hz. or better (less than that can be a bit "fuzzy".) If you're not looking to have the very latest technology 3D etc, you're probably get a chance to buy one " off season " before they come out with " their latest model" in the near future.

I was thinking (primarily) of footballers. The social scene in Southampton doesn't really compare very well with " high life " in the capital - does it ? Thinking back over the last 50+ years as a fan, I find it hard to recall even a handful of players who moved down to So'ton..and stayed any length of time.

New players get less and less time to settle in these days.

Right Duncan. A quick look back at yr. copy of ITN will also show you that (above mentioned Channon) Shearer and MLT took more than one season even to get regular games let alone be regular goalscorers. NOTE: James Beattie went almost 3 seasons before becoming a regular first choice, and his early goal tally was worse than some of our midfielders of the time. -
you won't need to worry about that ..all the likely ones will have moved on to bigger clubs before then......

Ugh ???..... six points clear ......after 2 games? Where's my calculator? -
IF ...this deal comes off, I hope that Les & Co. can see something in him that I can't. Yes he has speed, and every player scores one or two " classy goals " at one time or another (even Frannie Benali ) but (like RL) he seems to have made his reputation on a couple of good apps. in two high profile internationals. I don't see him as a 90 minute threat in every Prem. game.......so why are we talking £10-12 million for someone who isn't even a regular at his own club? I only hope that we can find a suitable alternative, as I'd hate to be " beholdin' " to Spuds for anything. As a London lad, he won't like the South Coast.
-
....his inital shot was deflected, and this caused the own goal. RL was still a bigger threat in the last 10 minutes than S&S were for most of the game. But as this thread is entitled " Lovren ", I think his " success " last season was mainly due to his partnership with Fonte. With " no disrespect " to Boruc, they helped keep 9 clean sheets together. Of course, (like many other players) he is new to his club, but time will tell if he can DAJF them (as he did for Saints).
-
.it was an own goal, of course, but tbf he looked just as much a threat as L'pools " S-men " even though it was only 10 mins.

WAY too early.... to even start comparing anyone with anyone. Anytime now we'll get someone condemning defenders when we concede a goal, or strikers when they miss a sitter. Dare I mention ..... ...that Ricky Lambert frequently went 3- 4 games without scoring....or that we even let in goals when Lovren was playing centre back? ....or that Lallana (good as he was) was subbed 20 times last season. Everyone has off-days, but this type of early season criticism (after 2 games).....is absolutely ridiculous.
-
At least were not putting all our eggs in one basket and paying £30 million for one player. Those who have bought in are ....a gamble - exactly as Schneiderlin and Lambert were in L1.....time will tell. I could quote a dozen (historical examples) of strikers who struggled to get a goal, let alone find good form before - such is the nature of strikers. I agree - we' re unlikely to reach the same level of success this season as last, but let's not forget that MP also inherited a sqaud, many of whom had been with the club for 3 or 4 seasons. I'm sure Koeman will get a lot more criticism before he gets the team he wants, but changing players is not like changing the wheel on a car. It takes time to mould a good team. Many of the newcomers have only been with the club for a few weeks, and may not have played RK's formation before, but I'm sure it will work - in time. Fans need to be patient .or is that a silly suggestion. too ?

........he's no better a football pundit than the average stand-up comic. There are two types of ex-player; those who want to continue in the game (coach, manager), and those who think they know more ....and who go and talk a lot of waffle on TV. Watching Sky on Saturdays, I think overall ....MLT is a rare exception to the second category.

I think that the club were anxious to keep MP and likely offered him a much higher salary. He (seemingly) didn't follow all the banter / rumours in the media and panicked when Cortese left. Les Reed (in interview) seemed pretty adamant about his daily chats with MP, and may have thought that he would sign a new contract. I genuinely believe that his move was a shock to many. I don't think MP had faith in a Board (without NC) and it would be interesting to know who he got his advice from.(?) NC ? His move to Spuds obviously triggered off the player exodus, though it seems that (those who moved) had different agendas, rather than making a mass decision to suddenly go, and L'pool and Man U. exploited that. I may be wrong on this one, but in the long term we may not regret the loss of all those who left, but time will tell. The press have had a field day on this one, but if Spuds, Liverpool or Man.U. can't kick start their seasons' then the media will move their attention away from us - and onto them .....unless we are sitting in the drop zone in a month or two. Aside from last season's excellent finish, most people's (historical) perception of Saints are .......of a struggling Prem. side who are mid table (at best), who often struggled and frequently survived. Koeman will need time to galvanise the squad, many of whom are new to the club.... and he....to them. I've written the same comment over many seasons, but I tend to ignore the " reliability of League tables " until after game 6 or 7, by which time, you see who has had a lucky/unlucky sides who are the obvious relegation candidates. Aside from one or two who may radically improve, or unfortunately hit a sudden decline through lost form / serious injuries... Few sides move up/down more than 2-3 places overall during the season, and very few new clubs break into those top six places - even for a week or two.. Most others belong to the mediocre mid table sides. For much of last season, almost half the division was covered by less than 6 points. Many " fans " on here were grumbling (in the last 2 seasons) because the Media ignored us, now they are making up for lost time. It'll change, and next month, it'll probably be someone else's turn.

I always think that the first home game is fairly similar nearly every season. Didn't look as though either side was capable of winning....or even scoring a goal. Hot(ish) afternoon, short of real cohension early season ...and the crowd anticipating a football match that never quite gets going. Typical when you consider we've had a fairly balanced side for the last two seasons ..and now suddenly ....several of these guys weren't even at the club a month ago. It'll take time. I tend to ignore the " form " aspect and table positions in the first six games, will get better as soon as we can score goals (whenever that is).

I listened to Radio London commentary on the Spurs Euro League qualifier, it sounded dire. The opposition scored first and Spuds only survived with two goals late on against a team of tiring part-timers. With a win coming from a 93rd minute goal last weekend, it may take a lot more agression to impress the White Hart Lane faithful ....and Daniel Levy...if Mo Po is to survive.

Rickie Lambert - Dream to Nightmare?
david in sweden replied to georgeweahscousin's topic in The Saints
in losing both Lambert and Lallana ANY new manager would look to get new faces in the front line. Rickie's days were (sadly) numbered. If Rickie had stayed he'd have been on the bench most games and got 20 mins. at the end, BUT good luck to him at Anfield anyway - he'll need it . -
.....does Brendan really think that a season back in Italy has rehabilitated him?... in the end Man. City must have been glad to see the back of him and he'll end up as another Suarez.
-
....well what did you expect from the Mirror.......now that all the other " non-deals " have been exposed as false rumours, they have to " create " something, or print a blank page.

Danny Welbeck - Told he can leave.. Only for mid table club
david in sweden replied to SaintLondon's topic in The Saints
just about sums up my feelings, too. Only got in the England side because he (occasionally) got 15 mins. as sub. alongside Wayne Rooney ..and the abysmal competition from other English strikers. -
Ronald Koeman on Artur Boruc's future at Saints
david in sweden replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
but doesn't that rule only apply if you have no alternative keeper,?... (and not because you don't have confidence in the other 5 ) two of whom (KD and PG), have already played in the Premier League. .......might be difficult to persuade the FA that we could " loan in " someone based on that scenario. -
Ronald Koeman on Artur Boruc's future at Saints
david in sweden replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
this is the main problem with the goalkeeping role. I was very disappointed that NA didn't buy in an experienced goalie after we were promoted and had our Butland bid rejected, (I bet Brum were sorry about that)...and plumped for Gazzaniga instead. At that time, at least three Prem. sides had 3 goalies on their books with international caps to their names, and several other clubs had two...but despite that... we ploughed on with KD (who had DAJFU in L1 and Championship,) but clearly wasn't up to the job permanently, and in importing Gazzaniga (from L2) we saw that there's no room for beginners in this League. Someone (on here) wrote a text which claimed ....that Cortese insisted we sign a top goalie ASAP - even whilst NA was still experimenting with Gazzaniga (who clearly wasn't the real thing.) Fortunately...Artur was available on a free transfer.... otherwise we would have been forced to wait until the January window and that might well have been too late for our Prem. survival. Aside from " the water bottle incident " and his dreadful impersonation of Fred Astaire (with Giroud)....Artur has shown some real class, and courage, but his 10 game absence (when he broke his finger at Chelsea) probably cost us the Euro League spot.... as KD and PG leaked in 20 goals between them during his absence).. .and we won only 1 of 10 games). Clearly Artur wanted to retain his no.1 spot (and international Polish place) but like Peter Cech at Chelsea, doesn't see himself sitting on the bench all season waiting for the regular man to pull a muscle. However, despite all the positives....I still have that " back of the mind feeling " that he is some sort of a square peg at the club....maybe that's just me ....or does anyone agree? With Forster as first choice, we have the same situation as two years ago. But now KD is 2 years older, Gazzaniga hasn't shown any real improvement in that time and poor Cody Cropper has been custodian in 4 of the worst defeats that the U21's suffered last season.... (just bad luck ....or a poor " Forecast "? ) it will be interesting to see how we resolve this problem.. given that most top goalies will want to play, and not be a number two all season. -
The saviours of the English national team?
david in sweden replied to mulletsaint's topic in The Saints
.former Saints' .Walcott (when fit), Oxlade Chamberlain, Adam Lallana,(when fit), Luke Shaw,(when trained)...and Rickie Lambert on the bench, perhaps soon Nat Clyne..(anyone's better that Johnson)..... ......but Calum Chambers ....really? -
A few photos of the Dell and one or two faces you might know.
david in sweden replied to Norm's topic in The Saints
ah well ! old memories....judging by the names on the photo....I'm guessing this is pre-season 1963-64 -
Correct!.looking at the "loans" (for the Academy lads) we've made in the past, the majority of managers only used them as an extra *rse on the bench and maybe play them in the last 10 minutes. Lloyd Isgrove got some good playing time in his loan to Peterborough (last season) but I really didn't expect to see him playing in a Saints shirt again, but Koeman does. Loan outs are a good idea (in theory)....as long as the player gets game time.....otherwise it must be pretty depressing to sit on an L1 bench....even after playing U21 games at our training ground.
