huh? ........?????????????????

not ITN.....but what a great signing he would be. the Swedes were raving about him when he was only 16 and found his way to Man.City...thereafter was the star of their Youth side ..and has had loan out to Feyenoord with great success and scored around 20 goals last season (I think). it may only be gossip, but the club who do eventually sign him will get the real deal.

How many international teams have had Saints players?
david in sweden replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
thank you '9'......now that I've looked back, I see that about half the posts there were also repititions of prev. answers. .I'm glad that are a few of you with the propensity for error-seeking and nit-picking.....they are needed to keep potential Alzheimer candidates like me in our place ..... .Ah...what was the question again ? -

well Imants Bleidilis was never " good enough " to play for Saints , yet played alongside Marian Pahars (who most certainly was) .. .in the Latvian side. pretty sure that Tahar El Khalej and Hassan Katchloul both played for Morocco in their time with Saints . and there was also..... Jo Tessem and Egil Ostenstad for Norway...(UGh has Forrran played for them since he joined us ?) did anyone say ...Antti Niemi for Finland ? ....and then again Bruce Grobellaar for Zimbabwe and Emanuel Mayuka for Tanzania ........ ....how many countries is that now ? -

think they all got their caps BEFORE coming to us .....and nothing afterwards........ -
well even Forecast went ....eventually. ........" everything comes to he who waits ......"

His mother was born in India, and father came from USA .... seems fairly obvious that the family moved around with parents' international jobs ...doesn't mean Real rejected him, but I agree ....ending up in Blackburn doesn't sound very romantic -does it ?
-
QPR?..........we're talking Championship football now, Blakey......a 32 year-old (with his background) might be regarded as...... " approaching his prime ".....
-
......you sound surprised Crab Lungs. 'appy 'arry has had a long list of memorable " one-liners " in his career.....How many " spiritual homes " does he have, anyway? ...... Shangri-La ?..Nirvana....?

....as for your comment on Fox....(don't disagree with that either) .I don't get heart attacks about him anymore, but I check my blood pressure - if his name turns up on the team sheet.

slight misundestanding here. I don't disagree with that comment Forecast was not signed as a first choice keeper, but 5 years with no apps. is a joke ! + Does anyone don't know what he was valued at in the cash + deal (for Bale). I'm sure we got screwed on that part, too. Frank Saul (?) ...OK not a " bad player" but he was never a regular with Spuds and got his " reputation " from his Cup Final goal. The (young) Mick Channon was our new rising star then, and Frank never got a look-in, and rarely looked "interested " Considering that we'd sold Martin Chivers for a record sum (then) £125K......Saul never got a regular spot with Saints and his goals record was pretty appauling (considering who had had replaced).....and £40 K was still fairly big money in those days. His goals /games ...ONLY 2 League goals in 49 starts, perhaps only his 6 goals in 8 Cup games gave his record even mild respectability. Might have been a nice guy and all that, but typical of a London "star" who didn't like the South and wanted back " home ".

UGH ? .....did I say that, I was agreeing with you. All journalists are as honest as the day is long -aren't they? ...except those who worked for the (former) NOTW ........
-
.........wait a few years and I'll tell you .....
-
......of course, thank goodness that never happens CB.

...or who makes you pawn your gold watch, and then gives you a sundial for the garden.

it's always difficult when they reach that age, and still haven't made a breakthrough into the first team...... you want to feel that if we only kept them for... another year ...or maybe two, then they MIGHT make it....it rarely happens. Their CV s will look good as a (former) Saints Academy player, and they might well get a career at L1 / L2 level, and - if they're lucky, their new club(s) might get a promotion. on the other hand ...if they score 20 goals a piece next season ...then we got it wrong, but I doubt if that will be the case, but good luck to Ben and Sam, anyway.

When & who will be our 1st signing ?
david in sweden replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
surely these two come into that " special category " that Di Canio referred to ...and he wants to see the back of them ASAP .... -
OK lads, hankies out for Chelsea and Man U ....they won't be getting Shaw ....But really .....did they EVER think they had a chance?...or was it just massaging their own ego's ? Why is it these " big clubs " always think that they can come and wave their cheques books in our face, and we'll drop down on and kiss their ....feet ! .....and as for the" so-called" journos who've been spreading these rumours for the last 6-9 months.....they ought to go back to serving behind the bar, instead of leaning on it .

at last .....Forecast is out of contract....was there ever a bigger waste of money? ....reminds me of that old WW2 film " the Man who never was " ....we were really conned on that one ...and lost Bale , too. good comments - (you got there before me).....but players on this list are unlikely to be " released " but perhaps... we may be open to offers for them? .....otherwise they'll be out on loan for the season.

another sad reminder of a great young player... Steve actually made his debut in a league Cup game in October 1972, but his first (proper) League game was in April 1973...(then aged 19) after having played over 50 Reserve games. Initially playing at LB , he even played in the RB role in 1974-5, when we had injury / form problems. Such was his success that he was selected for the England U23 side in January 1974 (when just 21) He was passenger and badly injured in a car crash in February 1975, and was in rehab for over a year. He tried for a comeback in 1976/77 but was never even a shadow of his former self, and had to quit after only 77 apps. Again, it's difficult to describe him to those who never had the joy of seeing him play. Although he was quite slight (only 5' 7" and barely 10 stone,) he was a ferocious tackler and had a good turn of speed. At the time of his entry into the side, you might have likened it to the recent emergence of Luke Shaw ........such was his talent. RIP.

well.......not quite Toomer, but then again my memory is a bit off sometimes as well. You may be right about the pub bit .... but in fact.... Forsyth replaced Tony Godfrey....who had taken over from John Hollowbread after the (Sept.) Dell game v. Coventry. In that game, JH went off after 30 mins. and was so badly injured that he never played again. In those days there was only ONE sub. (only allowed for serious injury). Ken Wimshurst came on as sub... and Cliff Huxford went in goal, and kept a clean sheet for the rest of the match. Saints won 1-0. Tony Godfrey played another 14 games, but was subsequently replaced by Forsyth .....who signed in December '65. He was first choice GK for the rest of the season and we eventually won promotion in May 1966. (you remember that bit OK , I'm sure)
