......could he be referring to Rodriguez's disallowed goal v. Newcastle?
-
with £ 60- 90 million sponsorship money at stake, it must be considered a good investment in order to guarantee survival. Euro football may be a long way away yet.

...in the last six games? Putting aside the fiasco start we had ...clearly Jos doesn't have his good form from last season, and thankfully...Jose Fonte has improved out of sight in the last month. BUT on paper it's the return of Jack Cork.....and the emergence of Luke Shaw. With 8 goals for and only 4 against .....it can't be compared with things as they were at the end of September. Somehow we seem to be a different side with Jack commanding the middle, and at last Luke Shaw has shown that he has real potential - even at this level. Looking at the the start line-up and the bench today; I think we have the basis of our first team squad (perhaps plus Gazzaniga, too) ......the rest.... will have something to prove or will be on the move ...or loaned out in January. We certainly need cover. Danny Fox will have a hard time to get a game and we still don't have a 3rd choice CB and we need extra cover there in the event of long term absences and loss of form, etc.

it's the only viable alternative to being a traffic warden, you may get the same level of abuse from the public, but at least you get on TV once in a while .......

Hope he's back soon but ..however long the absence, I thought the "alternative " midfield looked OK.... .and we still had JWP on the Bench.

Newcastle target Lallana rumour in Daily Mirror
david in sweden replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
I was really at a loss to decide if the author of the Mirror article was sane on the day he wrote it, or if there was another explanation. As I have my doubts that AP tipped the Mirror that he was going to bid £5 million for Adam (and expect us to throw ourselves at his feet in gratitude and admiration) it now seems to me the likely scenario is that the nameless journo' in question was taken off the paper's dept. that deals with the sale of second hand vehicles..as he clearly doesn't understand the difference in valuation between a Mini ...and a Rolls Royce. The Mirror has become a laughing stock (at least in our part of the world) for this ridiculous item, and the person concerned may find themselves back trying to sell a 23 year old Mini..instead, and not Adam L. -

I don't think pace is the key question, but I watched him in both the Newcastle and Norwich games and he did seem to be struggling a bit. I don't disagree with your other comment but he doesn't lack attention from opposing defenders and there isn't anyone else for them to bother about as Puncheon seems to plays out wide so much. -

this is the Mirror having a joke right ?........is it April 1st already?. Grow up AP...even if AL wanted to leave ....£5 million wouldn't buy his bootlaces ! -

this thread is called the Sothampton Transfer Committee... can we revert to that topic please, or should we create a special forum for those who want to insult each other online ....... -
Reading and Sunderland are pivotal to our season
david in sweden replied to corsacar saint's topic in The Saints
......OR ..looking at it another way ....we've already had the ......" we lost to the top 10 sides thread " (ex Chelsea of course), ZERO points. but on the other hand... we shared the points with Fulham, Swansea and Norwich ....3 points (all midtable sides)... and beat Villa, Newcastle and QPR. ....9 points (sides nearer the bottom). Points tally games 1- 10 conceded 28 goals and gained...4 points. .............. .games 11-15 conceded 4 goals and gained...8 points. Though far from perfect we are definitely improving....if slowly. If this is a trend, then 6 points would be a real bonus. -

gives a whole new meaning the the expression ....."six-pointers" . Two wins here will give us a breathing space and move us up the league.....if not...we struggle on ....... -
I read the interview in the paper concerned...he was "baited" by a journo ...and asked if he'd like to play for Fiorentina? His obvious reply related to .....playing in a top Italian side.......I saw nothing implied that he ws unhappy at SFC .or wanted to move . The journo got his headline, and it has become a " non-story " which may dog the tabloids every week in the future whenever things go quiet elsewhere.

....I'm sure that Cortese's knowledge of the financial world is more exact than that of the football world, but he does seem adept at signing players from struggling clubs.... and getting a deal. In the present market (and considering the Prem.standards) ..although £12 million may sound a lot for SFC, it must be a good deal by any standards. When we've seen half-a-season of Mayuka in action, we may come to the same conclusion. -

Best "simple " explanation to this derisive subject I've heard, Mowgli. I agree that the first three mentioned in the OP were probably NA's own choices. I recall Strachan saying one time "....I give the Chairman a list of the players I'd liked to have... .and leave it with him." Obviously .he who hold the purse strings, makes the offers, salaries and conditions. Then either they agree (or not).... or the player won't move / his wife doesn't want to move (seen that one a few times) ....or the player goes elsewhere for a better deal, or his club won't release him....or his face doesn't fit. Lowe was a bit like that, and Cortese has his own variation I'm sure. It's down to the ones we can afford to get in... and up to the manager to use them in the squad, as he will. At the end of the day - it's his head. I get the impression that NA had seen Yoshida play in the Olympics, and even seen Ramirez too , but I don't know how much he may have known about Mayuka. Whereas the average manager maybe in step with the better talents in the English leagues, I doubt if they have the same grasp of the World football scene to the same extent. Thats why we have scouts. -

Both our present CB's are in that same generation. Fonte will be 29 at Christmas, and Hooiveld is already 29 (will be 30 in April 2013). Nothing "wrong " with that but with an average age of 23+ in the present side, we need some real experience at the back ......and in that....I include the goalie, too. -

.......another good question ! He has scored a few goals but perhaps not as many as some people might have hoped /wished for. IMO he will stay at Forest for the rest of the season ..and then make a decision about his future. He is well suited to Champiobship level and will continue to score goals, but I just don't see him as a Prem.regular. The Lambert question is a real challenge. Whenever he eventually goes, lots of fans will be upset/angry/disappointed, but he admitted himself (in interview) that the pace of the Prem. is far greater than many (in the team) had anticipated. Except for the very best players, the average shelf life of the ordinary striker is 3-5 years. Ricky has already done that and more... We, who recall the legend that was Ron Davies will never forget his first few seasons in the Div.1 (Prem.) in the late 1960's. He got a lot of "attention " from tough defenders and not a lot of protection from referees. He never regained his fantastic form in the later years, and everyone was wishing him back to his best.... but it never happened. We have (almost certainly) seen the best of Ricky, and although I 'd love to see him go on a year or two more, in reality he has one more big " pay-day" and would be able to go out at the top. It's a tough call....I seem to think that RL's finding it tough now, but Jay Rod was bought as his eventual replacement...and shouldn't be held back too long if he's to develop as he should. One of those tough footballing decisions. Should RL go or stay?. In the end : You're dam*ed if you do.. .and dam*ed if you don't . -
There are a lot of overseas students at the college where I teach occasionally ...and a lot of football fans amongst them. Knowing my allegiance to Saints, one fellow (who appears to have seen him play more than most Saints fans) ...was raving about him and how good he was rated.... "everywhere else "...except SMS.
-
.on the contrary......he's ideal, has been in England for " a few years " ....... and has lots of experience in the Prem. ** I was thinking of "them" finding some international keeper from a third world nation who can't speak English....and has never seen van Persie or Defoe in action on a good day!
-
I'll agree with you on that one TDD, YES ..Gazza may be a good prospect for the future, but in the present situation we need the best keeper we can get our hands on....someone who's played in the Prem. ......and not a " foreign import "
