I won't ague the amount, but how many strikers do you think we can have on the pitch at the same time? Many people suggest that Jay Rod is badly-used playing left wing (won't argue that).. but if we play the £10 millions worth who do we sub. to get them in the game ..Rickie ?...or one or two of the midfielders. Most sides can use two (sometimes only one) striker (s) at a time....so if we put on; Jay Rod, Mayuka, Lee.....or whoever.....who do we take off? You can still only use 11 players at a time .....

of course,.. 'appy ' arry couldn't select Dawson when he was managing at WHL.... because the player spent so much time in the treatment room. mind you...if NA does get the boot .....and 'arry comes back.... (perish the thought).....we're sure to see him as our first signing, regardless of his fitness (or lack of it). whilst I'm writing this . .Is Jamie still able to lace up his boots?......'cos he'd be sure to come along, too .....(there was talk of him starting a coaching career.......back then)

so the question is : Do you want us to play in a " poor-mans league..." (full of up-and-coming boys and journeymen-footballers who are past their prime).. and win all the time? ....OR.... have our best players play against " some of the best players in Europe" .and a few who are even world-class? ..... and see how they make out? For anyone with ambition, the answer is obvious ...if you just want to follow " winning teams " in lower leagues all the time....try Tranmere or Leicester.

Why are people harranging Yoshida for his indifferent peformances in a position he hasn't played in before? ..he didn't pick himself for goodness sake. Reminds me of those (past) critics of Tessem and Delap who rolled out insults every other game when the players concerned were played out of position by their manager (of the time)..out of necessity. What does a player say... ."oh sorry gaffer, can't do that. I've not played that position before and I might get criticised if I have a bad game " . You play where you are put and make the best of it. If you're the managers only option...and it doesn't work out ..it's hardly the player's fault, but everyone should learn the lesson.

I would think that the expression " failure" would come after the 38 games have been completed and (IF) we are relegated. Till then, we are still in the race. Given the fact that we can't sign new players until January, what could another manager do at this time that this one isn't doing ?.... beat them with a stick ?.....take away their car keys and make them walk to SMS? ......play even more inexperienced boys from the U18 side ?.....NO we just have to grin and bear it, until we turn the corner..and get a few games against sides who aren't in the top 10. ref: that " enough is enough " ...does that mean you're considering supporting another more successful club instead? If your patience is " wearing thin " (as you put it)....then you haven't been a fan long enough. I watched MY first game in 1959 (!)

One thing that seems obvious is that some people are still living in the L1 world... and seemed to doubt that we could make it in the Championship...let alone the Prem. I've seen several people stating that we've spent (read wasted ).£30 million in the transfer market, which is only small money in the Premier League. It appears by some fluke that we ended up in the big spenders list after the summer, perhaps only because the "big clubs" spent a bit less than they normally do on summer buys. Being new to this League, it was surely expected that we spend a bit more (?), but it is put in better perspective when you see that the fee that Man.Utd spent as much on one player (Robin van Persie) was roughly the same... as the cost of the entire squad we had on the day.... in a game that we lead them at one time......and nearly won. If he doesn't know by now Nicola Cortese will soon realise it's going to take "bigger " money than that to get a winning side together (irrespective of who manages it), and that £30 million on half a dozen young prospects in the Prem .. may look like a good deal in a season or two - provided we survive. Although I doubt that we will spend £12 million on another player in the near future...(remember we have sold one in a £16 million deal) . I expect a few more "sizeable " signings as soon as it is possible in January, and a much tighter back line in the second half of the season.

A shaft of light on a day of dark clouds, but don't expect too much positive response. Some of those people who cheered us through the last 3 years have suddenly got upset because we've lost games against some of the best teams in the land, and are preparing a gallows for Adkins public hanging before eventually slashing their own wrists....in protest outside SMS. They'd much rather be in the top six of Championship than playing against the top sides and getting beat. After 50 years of following the Saints, I've become more circumspect and have taken a longer look at the League table....as I see it... as long as we've got 3 teams worse off than us by the end of the season, we can feel satisfied. This is a long term building project. and not a short term repair job.

this " non response " policy is surely fairly obvious. If THIS site is anything to go by, the merest rumour (whether there's any truth in it, or not) has a domino effect and before long taken up by tabloids journos who are having a slow, lazy day at the pub. ...couldn't help thinking the Halmstad game yesterday was a bit like Sweden's fight back in the Germany game - but without the same result. Michael Svensson's last club (third placed) Halmstad were leading 2-0 in the 87th minute against bottom club Värnamo.....(Michael Svensson's first club).... then; they conceded a penalty,(2-1) ... a Halmstad player put through his own goal 2-2 ..and then Värnamo scored a winner in added time ....result 2-3. What a finish! It has probably put paid to Halmstad's chances of automatic promotion and they may have to content themselves with a play-off game........

Nice thread Canada, but you can't expect to influence some of the people on this site ....purely with stats. I've tried it ! ....and they've forgotten already that we had the misfortune to get teams presently in the top 10...... in 6 of our first 8 games... .(and they didn't get up there just by beating us). Sam was happy with his 3 points on Saturday, but then admitted Arsenal were the only top team they'd played...and bemoaned Wham's forthcoming fixture schedule...Man.City, Man Utd etc etc, we 've done those already........with predicatble results. If we turn around in December and say we'd lost to ; Man.City, Everton and Arsenal ....and Man Utd....it wouldn't raise an eyebrow !
