We wont loose this series and the selectors obviously see Root and Bairstow as two decent up and coming batsman. If they do not learn valuable test lessons from this series then they wont learn anywhere

No you need mobility ahead of him, his game is different then that we play ATM, he wants to drive forward and have players around him to play the ball too. That doesnt really work when your striker is winning the ball on the half way line and he is more advanced than the wide men.

I for one would take Downing at the right price

Exactly this but the average fan who knows little will always prefer a less trchnical try hard to a player that genuinely has something in his locker. Personally I hope we stick with him, I saw enough last season to see he has something and he did score 5 goals which if he had a bad a season as everyone says surely isnt that bad ?! Certain times last season he was one of the only ones that genuinely looked like doing something on the ball. The last few games he was missing that was so apparant, Lambert dropped in to play GR's role and we just looked devoid of ideas. With a mobile front man ahead of him and a player out wide with a better brain and pace and we could really see a quality player here. I get the clamour to take £10m for him but Im certainly happy to give him another year
