This just gets better and better. There will be absolutely no guarantees that anything will happen in the summer no matter what b/s spin the club feeds the media about it. There's not a chance Promes would join us if we go down and not a chance we will be able/willing to finance it either. So completely meaningless to state it. The club appear not to have noticed that we are currently second from bottom FFS! We could do with using that cash now on someone to help keep us up, couldn't we???
-
Yes, I suspect you are right, it's more the timing of payment we can't agree to rather than the amount. This probably means that we don't meet all requirements of the release clause therefore Spartak aren't obliged to sell. Personally, I can accept there are issues that might mean we can't sign Promes - it always seemed like it would be a difficult deal to get done, both in terms of agreement with club and player. What I can't believe is that we don't seem to be further down the line in terms of a backup option. Still holding out some hopes that something is in the offing but they are keeping it quiet, but my confidence is fading!
-
I don't think we have met the release clause and seems we have no intention of doing so.
-
Agreed - Antonio would not be the worst signing for us, because he does have a knack of finding the net.
-
So are we to read from that the club have not lined up any plan B for this eventuality, which has seemed pretty likely all the way along? Surely there are other players out there we can target that have similar attributes to Promes if we are really ready to spend this kind of money? Very poor if we are just saying "well that's us done" now that Promes is off given the nature of our position in the league.
-
Suspect we have not met the release clause conditions but have offered a fee that Spartak find acceptable. But only if they find a suitable replacement. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

There's a surprise. Ok, let's get on with plan b then (assuming there is one). Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

It will not shock me if Promes doesn't happen as it's always seemed a 50/50 chance at best for me. But it would be hugely disappointing if we haven't lined up a decent alternative for a similar type of player given how desperately we need to find more goals in the team in our situation. Absolutely massive game this, made even more so by Swansea’s new found form. Time for everyone to show some bottle - manager, players and fans.
-
McCarthy Cedric Yoshi Hoedt Bertrand Romeu Hojbjerg JWP Boufal Tadic Carrillo Get a couple of goals up, then bring on Lemina and Long for Boufal and Carrillo to shore things up for last 25.
-
I wouldn’t be that shocked if there was something in the offing with Redmond given how he has disappeared from the squad in last couple of games. Dependant on signing Promes or similar type of player of course.
-
That sub said it all about his attitude really. With a record signing striker sitting on the bench that the crowd were waiting to welcome and in a relatively low pressure cup game, 99.9% of managers would be thinking it was a great chance to be positive to get Carrillo on for half an hour to try and seal the game and give everyone a much needed boost. But not MP!
-
Well it’s a win but just about as unconvincing as it could possibly be. Manager’s input once again completely surrendered the initiative and we were hanging on in a game we should have been comfortable in. He will clearly never learn. Please Les - sack him now. It’s our only chance of staying up irrespective of who we sign in the next few days.
-
Whether we win this or not I’m more convinced than ever MP has to go now. Completely surrendered the initiative in this half - again!
-
Carillo on at last.
-
He is just so negative. I saw in the pre match interview he was saying this could be 180 mins rather than 90 - seems like that’s what he’s playing for even when 1-0 up! We will not get out of trouble with this guy in charge.
-
Agree with playing a strong team as we need some momentum and a good win here could set us up nicely for the critical games coming up.
-
I've never thought this one seemed very likely to happen and still think that's the case. I just think Promes will be expecting better offers than us in our current state and if he doesn't get that now he'll probably stay put til the summer. So even if we can agree a fee with Spartak I still think it's unlikely. Hopefully we do have a good plan b for another pacy player who can score. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

Yes, manager is our No 1 problem but seems **** all chance of us doing anything about that! But in fairness the last manager did no better in coaxing goals out of the wide men and mids so does seem an issue there since we lost Mane. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

I get what you say about number of wide options, but one of our biggest problems is lack of goals in the team, and that is not just down to the striker. If we can get a wide player who has a good scoring record, that would be my preference over a CB if I had to choose, particularly as Carillo does not have a massive number of goals on his CV. Agree with you that Redmond would be the one to let go if there are any takers! Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

Still think it's more likely this one won't happen. My worry is that he's waiting for a better offer so may keep is waiting until last day of window and then turn us down leaving us in the ****. Think we probably need to give him a deadline and if he doesn't sign then move on to other alternatives. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk

The 5 pledges?
-
I would go as far as saying that it’s extremely unlikely we will sign Promes, so we have to hope the club have lined up some other good options.
-
How the **** did Firmino miss that header at the end? Going to be a hell of a relegation scrap this season the way it’s shaping up. 6 points between bottom and 10th place!

Sorry, but you are clueless if you think Tadic was poor today. Watch the highlights tomorrow and you will see that Tadic was involved in nearly all of our best moments, even when moved out of his best position on the left.
