  1. Head says 2-0 to Saints, but I 'know' in my heart of hearts that it will be a resounding thumping: Yeovil 0 Saints. 7
  2. This is correct. For anyone who wants to understand this, take a look here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8858634.stm I think that explains it pretty well, but, basically, clubs have a 25-man squad of over-21 year olds which can then be supplemented by any of their under-21 year olds.
  3. How can we remind you that you're wide of the mark if you can't even tell us what your guess is?!! It's a bit like Paul Daniels saying he can predict which card someone will choose from the pack, telling nobody what his prediction is and then, when they choose it, saying 'that's the one I thought it would be; aren't I a great magician?! Please give me a job!' Pointless. If you have a suggestion at the very least please pm everyone what your prediction is and then we can give you your ITK rating out of 6.0 when the truth is announced!!!!
  4. Ah! But ur assuming that the words are asterisked because they are swear words - perhaps the original poster just wanted to keep the actual county quiet. Incidentally, there is another manager who technically manages in Yorkshire who one could possibly understand being linked to the job... WGS as manager of Middlesbrough, technically manages a Yorkshire club!! (But can't see him coming here tbh!)
  5. I've been having the same problem - it's clearly not 'Brum' cos there's no county called Brumshire - it's the Unitary Authority of Birmingham - so that wud rule out a certain manager from there!! Clearly, the stars must stand for York - hence the well known experienced manager in question must have last managed in Yorkshire... ...so I guess we must be talking about... George Graham or David O'Leary! -Ahhh! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. According to Sky Sports Score Centre Barnard was sent off for a second bookable offence one minute after his first booking. It doesn't indicate what his second offence was however, so it could be that on consulting his linesman the ref upgraded his decision to a straight red. More likely, though, I would guess that Barney argued too strongly over the decision and got a second yellow for dissent. If that is right then is merrimd right in saying it will only be a one game ban?
  7. Irony? Sardony? I hope so, cos the original words are of course 'Oh When The Saints'! As for Leeds singing 'Come on you whites' or similar, it's a real shame that many of their fans (and many fans around the country) have forgotten the clubs proper nickname, The Pea****s!
  8. So what about sponsor? It would be great to have 'Saints Transport Ltd' as our sponsor: http://www.saints.co.uk! When I first saw their lorries on the motorway a couple of years ago, I thought they were something to do with Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC and kept pointing out how Saints were being marketed up and down the motorways by the lorries! I was gutted to discover that they had no relation to the club at all! hehe
  9. This... but I don't think we should think about it as a best team - I think the best team will depend upon the opposition. Against some teams we will play 4-4-2 with Lambert and Connolly, while against other teams we will play Lambert and Barnard up top; in still other games, Lallana will play as a striker rather than in midfield and in quite a few games he will play out on the wing. I could go on for all sorts of positions. The thing is that AP has assembled a squad with many options, which is brilliant!
  10. There's going to be a takeover of Pompey and merger of the two clubs. The new club will be known as Solent Saints FC and play its games at St Mary's. The Football League have agreed that the new club can take Pompey's place in the Championship. OR... They are going to redevelop the ground to increase its capacity to 50,000 and, following financial difficulties encountered by Plymouth Argyle, have agreed with the FA that St Marys can be used for the World Cup bid instead of Home Park. OR... They are preparing to announce the shock signing of a new German right-back from Bayern Munich. He goes by the name of Philipp Lahm. OR... They are preparing to announce more details of the development of the club's academy. It is going to be run as a joint operation with a number of other clubs across Europe including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Porto. Younger players from those clubs will train with Southampton and if by the age of 19 they have not made the transition into the senior teams of those clubs, Southampton will have the option to sign them for free. OR... Markus Liebherr's business operations will all be moving to Southampton when he completes the purchase of the nearby industrial complexes. This will include a factory producing diggers and other machinery, a sales storge depot for his products and the relocation of all of his offices to Southampton, including his own persoanl office moving to within St Marys.
  11. I notice that both Papa Waigo and Antonio are still listed in the Saints squad on the OS, while all the other players that left are gone. Does this suggest that we are indeed intending to have both players here next season? My guess is that they are just waiting for the end of June when contracts end, etc. After that they will be unveiled as Saints players. I'm only guessing, but it does explain their continued presence in the website squad profiles.
  12. U - Uwe Rosler A or D - should be Ali Dia
  13. If you read the posts above caraefully enough you will note that it wasn't an article, but a news item on telly. Sadly, living in the North-east I am unable to watch it and cannot access it online. It may be possible for those who live in the south here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sn9fx
  14. Sorry to interrupt the discussion, but can I ask... is there any plan to put updates to the first post of the HCDAJFU thread like there have been in previous years? Usually someone puts up a list of all the players that have been suggested and then updates this with news of what has happened to each of the suggested players. For what it's worth, I have really appreciated the effort that people have made in the past to do this. I appreciate that doing this is hard work, so I guess I understand why it is not happening this time around. Nevertheless, I think it's worth just expressing my appreciation of all those who have made the effort to do this in the past. Of course, it maybe that someone has already asked this question, in which case please accept my apologies for raising it again. I haven't got the time to wade through all 23 pages of this thread!
  15. Crystal Palace are saved from extinction Crystal Palace have been saved from extinction after an agreement was reached in principle for CPFC 2010 to buy the club and Selhurst Park. Full story to follow. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/crystal_palace/8714650.stm at 4.36pm
  16. Looks like they won't be going into liquidation if the Guradian are right: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/01/crystal-palace-consortium-lloyds-guilfoyle
  17. Wouldn't it be more likely they would charge £125 for a half season ticket or a special 'one-match-a-month' season ticket, which as it says gives you the chance to attend one match every month. In practice this would buy you attendance at 10 league matches across the whole season at £12.50 a match. Or as someone else posted, they might do a scheme aimed at providing cheaper season tickets for young people. Alternatively, they could do a scheme where for £125 you get a Saints shirt and attendance at five matches of your choice. There's all sorts of things they could do which are probably way more likely than a £125 season ticket.
  18. Or you can keep kidding yourself that Huddersfield could screw it up by failing to win any of their remaining games and losing at least one of them, while we go on a 3 game winning streak to end the season!! ...you never know though... Huddersfield get complacent and fail to turn up... Saints relax and play some beautiful football... voila! Last game of the season and we are left wondering if Exeter can do us a favour and beat them while we win our last game?!! ....I wish!!! On a more realistic note, I hope that we can keep all our decent players and that we can find someone who will provide decent cover for Schneiderlin (or even better, someone who is better than Schneiderlin!)
  19. Dear Lord, Please can we have a goal... from Lambert or Waigo or Connelly or Hammond... from one of their defenders even - from anyone! Please can Saints get a winning goal! AMEN
  20. The ref's not from West Yorkshire is he?
  21. 1. Sign up to Facebook(!) - if you are not keen on this, bear in mind that you don't have to add any private information if you don't want to - just keep clicking on skip! You can also create an account using a made up name. I have just created an account for someone called 'Fanof Saints'. He shares a birthday with me, but apart from that I have not entered any personal information! 2. Ask me nicely and I may let you use the account that I have just created. I created an e-mail address to create it, so it has no real identification to me except that Facebook has seemingly recognised that I have logged on from this computer as it has suggested me and all my friends as possible friends! In terms of how you do that, send me an e-mail at: neil.jackson@live.regents-tc.ac.uk. But bear in mind this is not my main e-mail address and I do not check it very frequently!
  22. Actually, I wouldn't say it was previously unforeseeable - I have pointed out the possibility of catching Charlton a number of times, as have several others. As I mentioned last night after the Huddsfld v Millwall game, Charlton have four very tough fixtures to finish the season and it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that they could lose them all. Of course, Swindon are mathematically catchable, but I think they will get the point that they need to secure their place in at least the play-offs. In terms of Saints, however, all four remaining scheduled matches are potential banana skins and not just the Gillingham game. While Oldham may seem like a cert win, bear in mind that they are in good form at present. Any complacency in the squad could cost us dearly! We must put 101% in every game! COYR!
  23. Also, while it really is Huddersfield we need to catch, there is also the possibility that Charlton will lose all of their remaining games - again highly unlikely (even though all their fixtures are very losable!) but Saints have to keep trying just in case! Even if/when it does become mathematically impossible for us to go up, I hope we will still keep going to the end. Despite anything else it would be great for confidence to end the season on a big winning streak ready to start with a bang next season!
  24. Well I agree that's pretty much season over... except that I thought that a few weeks ago and then it looked possible again! You never know - Huddersfield may get complacent next week and suffer a shocking defeat at the hands of Stockport!!! Highly unlikely, I know, but I just hope that our lads will keep going 'til the end anyway... just in case!!
