  1. Unfortunately that fund is for Premier league games only. Subsidised travel would be great though, would love to see 5k of us up there. At £17 I'll be heading up by car.
  2. Maybe, just maybe (and I'm guessing here), he is wondering how on earth you've missed our song, you know the one sung slowly, loudly and proudly by pretty much the whole stadium at times yesterday, one of the most famous songs in football, copied by other clubs but ultimately ours. OWTS. In response to the OP, me and my mates moved to block 2 a few years ago to get away from the morons in the Northam, the best example being the nutcase that screams "PORK" over and over again every week. In the Itchen the away fans can see you and hear you, they very rarely even acknowledge we have a vocal element in the Northam as you can't hear them from that end of the ground. No way I'd move back, although the only thing stopping the Itchen going back to the days of a few years back is the club using block 3 for club tickets, an area completely silent during the game bar a few long standing ST holders that have somehow kept their seats there.
  3. One of the best things on Twitter! If Redslo hasn't come across him before and has a few spare hours available to read some of SR's reports, definitely check out check out @swissramble
  4. You're a good writer mate. Our very own "Swiss Ramble" (although you'll need a few more graphs to truly compete there). You on Twitter?
  5. Done, but shame Q's 7 & 8 couldn't have been multiple choice? I personally think SS would improve atmosphere, bring in bigger attendances and the option of cheaper tickets. Could only pick 1 though.
  6. I'll give it a blast. Be interested to know what other pods you listen to/ base this on? I've listened to the other Saints one and wasn't that impressed, presenters pretty wooden. Arsenal's Tuesday Club is brilliant, apparently Spurs and Liverpool's are both also a good listen. Guardian and Times both decent (Guardian edges it IMO, less serious than the Times although Gab is a top WUM) but nothing else football related comes anywhere near the Football Ramble. By an absolute mile the best Podcast around.
  7. The City of Southampton is far from an affluent area. Just because posh people in Winchester, the New Forest, Dorset etc can afford a jolly nice day out at their nearest Premier League experience, does not detract that Football is ingrained in the cultural heritage of our City, the team are representing the City of Southampton and I find it pretty repulsive that people are content that young kids from families in any of the dozens of Council Estates across our City are priced out of going and instead growing up watching it on the TV (the same TV that shows endless matches involving the big sides, making the nippers more likely to support them rather than their home City club). This isn't faux anger by the way, it's real anger, anger at the apathy shown by football fans in general. Tribalism and partisan support of their own club makes this a really hard issue to support. When City had a low gate against Roma a few weeks ago, most of the comments in the Guardian/ Times/ Telegraph comment's sections were from gloating fans of Liverpool, United, Chelsea etc mocking their gate. Hardly any offering any solidarity and supporting the City fans saying £38 is a lot of money mid week for a largely working class support. Liverpool's Spirit of Shankly group are doing great work to highlight the shocking prices we are being fleeced. I don't like the Club, the City or their greedy, mercenary ex Saints players, however I'd stand shoulder to shoulder to them on this matter. Some things are more important than this week's/ season's result/ league finish. Having a legacy our kids and their mates, no matter their economic situation, can be part of should be a part of should be a real priority.
  8. Good site that, not seen it before. Saved in my favourites for next time I'm holiday scanning!
  9. Forget Hotels - for that amount of people I'd recommend http://www.airbnb.co.uk I use them for work trips and holidays in Europe and the US, good for large groups when renting a whole Apartment/ Villa/ House. Amazing value, especially in large Capital Cities like NYC, Paris, Rome & London, the Mayor of New York is trying to get it either shut down or levied with tax such is the effect it's having on the City's Hotel trade (and subsequent Tax revenues). Must say though I've never been to Paris, if you know the area you want to stay in the map feature is pretty cool. Their App is brilliant too btw.
  10. Anyone my age group (30ish) would've grown up with Matty as their hero. I moved up to London at 20 and worked/ lived there for 10 years, in that time I worked with proper supporters of dozens of clubs ranging in size. I would say that on the first football chat I had with each one, when I mentioned I was a Saints fan 75% of them would instantly smile and say "ahh, Le Tissier, what a player he was.." and proceed to talk about him. The bloke is/ was universally admired and respected by fans of 91 league clubs (skates aside). A true legend and his cap tally an insult to him and our country.
  11. Not sure if any Hampshire parent wants or needs another reason to send their nipper to Staplewood over whatever local rec' they're training on but nice one Awford, you've managed to dig one out there! They truly are a repulsive Club.
  12. As I licence payer I love Clarkson. Makes the BBC an absolute fortune in syndication revenue, many times more than his salary! I've met him a few times and he's a good laugh, really liked the bloke and he clearly hams it up just to annoy people that want to be annoyed. In the current PC obsessed world I find his approach refreshing, if you don't like it, think Top Gear was better years ago no problem, don't watch it. Fact is millions of people do enjoy it (or enjoy getting offended by it) and watch it for a bit of escapism. Oh, as for the sort of people that watch Top Gear... A colleague of mine when working at the Sunday Times was the Deputy Editor of the Magazine section for a few years before moving over to another section, in that role he flew over and interviewed the Delai Lama, half way through the interview the Delia Lama cut it short and informed Nick, incredibly politely, that he'd have to delay the rest of the interview as Top Gear was about to start and he never misses an episode via a satellite he has set up. Sue enough he watched the entire episode, laughing along with the show, then got back to the interview. One of the most surreal moments of his career! But hey, all Top Gear fans are young Tories and little Englanders aren't they? Ironically that's the sort of sweeping statement people lambast JC for.
  13. Sherwood didn't say that, I heard the interview in question. Sherwood has always said Spurs have a squad good enough to be top 6, maybe push for top 4. Which is correct IMO. He added that after the 2 games we played against Spurs last season, Poch went on record that he thought the Spurs squad was good enough to challenge for the title, Sherwood then added he wondered if Poch still thought that now after seeing them close up. Fair comments.
  14. Any disrespectful act to English heroes that fought for our living completely unacceptable. If they do a whip round for the family of Ted Bates that was roundly abused in 03 by their lot (not a minority either) during the minutes silence pre game I'll reciprocate.
  15. Faraway Saint summed it up perfectly... It was classic narcissism. Big image of him, not him and the fans, with 2 brief sentences (not even paragraphs) that looked like they had been written as an after-though via a text message on the way to the Airport. He could have fitted it into a tweet ffs. Compare that to Rickie's open letter and that poxy £500 ad' was offensive. He could have phoned the Echo and done an interview, nah, he wanted it to all be about him and not leave even a small possibility he'd have to answer a difficult question or 2. The worst of the lot, threw a lifetime of admiration away in 1 summer. He doesn't give a **** though, as I say, he's a narcissist, lives in a dream world.
  16. Oh Grazziano, He's a striker, he's f***ing class He drives around St Mary's with a tonne of hair gel on his head Then he pulls your missus and he f***'s her in your bed Oh Grazziano....
  17. I would say it is. Lallana the worst of the lot to me, was supposed to be our Captain and our leader. Instead he was "dreaming about playing for Liverpool" whilst still with us. He could have stood up, said he was staying and wanted the squad to kick on this season. He did the opposite, weaselled his way out threatening to go on strike and taking out a frankly offensive ad' in the Echo to attempt to make up for it. He could have had a lifetime of being a hero down here, with our rise from League 1 and his part of that coupled with being a local lad and Academy graduate it wouldn't be a stretch to say he could have retired with Le Tissier levels of admirations (and more than enough cash in the bank to live a very comfortable life), but he threw it all away. Wrongun. Havn't met a Saints fan in real life with anything good to say about the *****.
  18. When Theo left as he was the hottest property in World football for his age (from 14 was being scouted by Barca, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool etc) and we were facing admin in the Championship. Time seems to have faded people's memories of just how utterly reliant we were on a 16 year old kid at the time, his speed, finishing and complete fearlessness scared the life out of the sides we were up against. He left as we were desperate for money to pay debts (unlike the Skates, we wanted to pay them) on good terms and with the prospect of training with Henry. Most people accepted it was a good deal for all parties at the time. That and his Missus' old man was the Mayor here and she worked in some earring shop in the Marlands - local girl, fair play. Chamberlain I've never had the same regard for. The deal we got was brilliant at the time, that before the "Cortese tax" of £50k every time he plays 60mins + (I love that, love or hate him that was classic Cortese). That said he can't be classified as anywhere near as disloyal as the recent mob of defectors. Anyway, I'm proud of the fact Theo and Ox make such an effort to thank our support, shows the grounding we gave them which, in my opinion, is one of the reasons our Academy is so successful, attitude off the pitch is focused on as much as ability on it. Theo especially epitomises this and I hope one day we can persuade him to "come home". Lallana is a greedy **** and will get both barrels if he tries anything remotely similar btw.
  19. Will never forgive him for the gutless 4-1 performance at Fratton, thumbs up to Milan etc. Hate him.
  20. I'm against renaming the stands. For me Southampton FC is about more than a club, it's about my City. The stands being named after areas of our City importantly reflects that. May not be significant to those that don't live here but to me it is. Renaming the Academy a far more fitting tribute to a man that allowed us to have a future to build towards.
  21. 1- London - Not only the greatest City in Europe, I'd say the World. 2- Venice - Stunning, not an ugly building in sight and truly unique. 3- San Sebastian - Best food in Europe and a very cool attitude.
  22. Eh? He's captain of the U21's, scored "Goal of the Tournament" and was voted one of the top 3 players of the U21 Tournament this summer. He's the FA's poster boy for emerging talent and gets wheeled out to do interviews in their behalf at any opportunity. There's a very strong argument he's closer than any other Englishman in terms of being a senior International. But that's based on facts not the opinion that he didn't play any better than the rest of our side against West Brom in one game. I genuinely despair of our fans, soft as ****. Staying off here until October.
  23. I was at Yoevil for the sunny end of season game in our first season in L1, Lambert getting a last minute winner and the terrace going bonkers (we were still on for a play off spot at the time). 5 mins before some moron behind me piped up "Lambert is useless, look he can't even jump". Class day that, way better than sterile Prem grounds unfortunately.
  24. In which case you are old enough to have benefitted from terracing when you were younger. I can't see a single, sane reason for Safe Standing to not be introduced in our grounds allowing better pricing for teenagers and traditional working class support (I know, I know, some chance of that) whilst at the same time improving the atmosphere at almost every premier League ground. SMS ain't perfect but our home support is way way louder than the average ground. Anfield was a morgue last week! Scousers "Spirit of Shankley" AMF movement one of the best organised groups in the country, credit where it's due. I refuse to include home grounds with drums/ instruments as having a "real" atmosphere btw.

    JWP form

Dyer and JWP are/ were completely different types of players. Comparing apples with oranges. Plenty of young black players get "hyped up" in JWP's position (CM), most recently Pogba. Mostly labelled as the next Viera/ Makelele/ Essien. Most don't cut it (see Obi Mikkel). Anyway, he's been told he's going to get a run in the side so we'll see exactly what he can do. Love his corners BTW - best delivery I've ever seen from a footballer at corners (even better than Matty), seems to cause havoc every time, in or out swinging! Hope he starts taking free kicks/ shooting from distance. His finish at Brighton was superb.
