If you are sad enough to listen to a full interview with Kenny Jacket on the Millwall equivalent of Saints Player (yes, I am that sad) then you can hear him expand on this theory. He attributes this rare occurrence to the benefit of having 2500 baying away fans in the referee's ear for both offences. So, credit to the fans and their numbers for that. If a ref has an inkling that an offence has been committed and he gets it confirmed by 2500 people bellowing in his ear, he is going to give it 99 times out of 100.

Of course he wasn't. Like very many fans he probably had no clue what the opposition players name was, so he was just chanting whatever he thought he could hear from the others.

I spent the afternoon at Soccer Saturday last season as a guest of MLT and I have to say that it changed my opinion of Phil Thompson. He is genuinely one of the nicest blokes you could wish to meet- and I was convinced he was an absolute **** before that day. To be fair, the whole team were really friendly and made you feel welcome. Great grub as well
