He's had loads of breaks though, including 6 weeks of no competitive football between his last game for us ( a ten minute performance) and the first game of the Confederations cup. Loads of players play far more football than he has and managed to cope. Happy to cut him some slack on the basis of settling into a new country, getting a fairly bad injury etc. He does also try too hard at times as mentioned before and I have no problem with his workrate or attitude, plus I don't think anyone doubts his technical ability. Will be an interesting season next year. -
It's mad isn't it. Lambert was the 7th highest scorer in one of the toughest leagues in the world last season, that speaks for itself.
-
As I said I completely agree with you regarding the principle of when you were informed - should have been before the end of the season so you can check other bits of the ground, talk to people around you etc. £604 is what you should be paying as an adult season ticket holder though.
-
Can you not just move to the other corner of the Chapel? Tons of availability there, will be the same as where you are now and no price increase for your old man? I think it's right that the family section is just for adults with kids, but they really should have you let you know with plenty of notice so you could make plans, rather than just not letting you renew your seat today which is poor.

Shooting from direct free-kicks we are strong in that Lambert usually tests the keeper and I don't think we've had that many this year anyway. The problem was more the indirect/crossed free kicks that weren't well utilised. I wouldn't pay much notice to a some of the "analysis" from these websites.

League 2 prices don't really have any affect on Premier League prices. It's simply a case of supply and demand for a seat at games, same as any other business unfortunately.
-
Who on earth would describe that as "robbing"? Did the club tell you at the start of the year that no games would be moved?
-
Take long shots? Shooting from direct free kicks? Don't see us having been strong in either of those as they suggest. Also thought a large part of our pressing game was being aggressive, so don't see how we are weak in that area.

What is MP's style of play, apart from high pressing? And when have the players said they're currently unable to implement it?
-
He thinks Welbeck is a much better player than Lambert, that probably tells you all you need to know.
-
Well the point I was replying to was that he wasn't great in the first half of the season due to 'settling in' but then improved in the 2nd half of the season. I'm just pointing out that was only half of the 2nd half of the season he really looked good. That's not enough from him so far in my eyes.

What about the last 6 weeks of the season?

I'd agree with most of that. He's shown glimpses of potential, but not enough across the course of the season. Jury is still out for me. Seems to lack some of the confidence and arrogance top strikers have.

Is Philips really going to improve on what we've already got? Can't see us going for him anyway.
-
Carlton Cole?
-
Well either you think it's a reliable source or you don't?
-
I'd keep Cork and Schneiderlin as our first choice, settled partnership and bring in Liam Bridcutt from Brighton as realistic back up for them.

How far are we off a Top 6 place (fifth or sixth in all reality)?

You think West Brom and Sunderland were much of a muchness last season? And you've picked out exceptions - as a general rule the more money a team spends the better they do. -
If you want to hold onto our best young players going forward, you'll want them called up for England. Improved international prospects will always be at the back of a few players minds if they're at Saints and not getting picked.
-
Buckley is a good player, but is he better than what we already have? And the sort of quality player we need to take us onto the next level?

*You're/You are.

You agreed with Window Cleaner's post that Welbeck is much better than Lambert. You ask any manager in the country - would you rather have had Lambert and his performances and goals last season or Welbeck and his contribution. Anyone sensible knows the answer to that.

Nice long post, but I don't think many people are pretending that only Saints players are great and everyone is rubbish. But was is very funny is you think Welbeck is a MUCH BETTER player than Lambert. That is hilarious.
