Terrorist Attacks - WARNING: CONTAINS DISTRESSING IMAGES
whelk replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
From Charles Moore in The Spectator: The Lahore attacks reflected hatred of Christians. Why must we deny it? You might expect that the murder of Christians would excite particular horror in countries of Christian heritage. Yet almost the opposite seems to be true. Even amid the current slew of Islamist barbarities, the killing of 72 people, 29 of them children, on Easter Day in Lahore, stands out. So does the assault in Yemen in which nuns were murdered and a priest was kidnapped and then, apparently, crucified on Good Friday. But the coverage tends to downplay such stories — there has been much less about Lahore than Brussels, though more than twice as many died — or at least their religious element. The BBC correspondent in Lahore, Shahzheb Jillani, was at pains to emphasise that the victims were not solely Christians but ‘simply Pakistani citizens enjoying a day out in the park with their children’, as if that made it worse. Western European politicians rarely protest about the plight of Christians in Muslim lands or offer to help them. Such Christians are perhaps regarded as a bit of a nuisance in countries Islam dominates. The Jewish experience should warn us how insidious this way of turning the victims into the problem can be. Hatred of Christianity — as of Judaism — is central to the Islamist creed. In our secular societies in the West, we congratulate ourselves on our lack of zeal, and think that if we stay out of religious disputes, the angel of death will not select us. But the events in Brussels are a reminder that studied neutrality makes you weaker, and no safer. -
Wouldn't panic - there are only 10 Friday night games so 50/50 chance we don't even have a home game.

You seem to have this persecution complex and assume a gang are gunning for you. You are suggesting Fry isn't fair as he doesn't agree with you and mocks you mercilessly but at no point does he come across as some right wing islamaphobia thug but you are quick to see islamaphobia with people and proclaim endlessly about how moderate you are. I don't deliberately pick on you and welcome your comments but don't make this about good and bad. People do disagree with you. You have gone off on one again here mentioning oil and stuff. And you had a thing for Hopkins no one else. Loathe for me to agree with Sour Mash but I am with him on the backlash thing - it isn't apparent. Of course much of Fleet St has and agenda but Beeb and Guardian not so much, and an opposing one, respectively. -
Yep was thinking same thing. Everything needs to be seen through Saints perspective
-
Yeah although TBH not too controversial. Bet he is glad he is out of it How bad is Long?
-
Payet is some free kicker taker https://t.co/XvfDk3bGt3

And of course Changing of the Garde
-
The board finally said 'Fire Garde'
-
You think no one will notice? Assume they have Pearson lined up
-
Remi Garde sacked
-
Goal!
-
Long is a penalty taker
-
Elliot twisted knee for Ireland. Sounds like will miss our game and Newcastle are weak for keepers as it is
-
Yeah someone needs to tell Everton. They must be mental to reduce prices. Board must be incompetent

The good PR would be discounting all by 10% ( £1.2m to 1.5m)which would be amply covered by one additional game on tv - not exactly key to our budget or investment. Everyone knows basic economic and market forces. That is why ' 'brand' is so important and less tangible PR exercises. I don't think it is anyone's right to expect it but don't think it impacts whether we have enough money to pay Wanyama higher wages. Does the £30 away ticket price annoy you?

Racists and bigots love to state about us being a Christian country and Christian values when it suits. Not the same as doing things in name of Christianity or Islam though. You should just avoid Hopkins altogether - she only wants to shock and get a reaction spouting her bile. -
Do the maths mate and you'll realise you are on very dodgy ground.

Agree many come from that disillusioned backgrounds. Some were recently intercepted going from UK to Syria and had a 'Dummies Guide to the Quran' with them. -
Decrease wouldn't have hurt and bare minimum anyone would accepted was a freeze given hysteria around Liverpool's proposed hike. Missed opportunity to do a decent PR exercise.

Do you really think I wasn't being sarcastic SOG? Been explained to you many times that Hopkins is no Christian although admittedly your criteria seems to be anyone in the west who has white skin. -

Oversimplifying I think. Do you think the suicide bombers at Baghdad markets have drink problems? The one thwarted recently in UK was a top medical student. There is clearly a cultish ideology at work that manages to bypass our natural instinct to survive. -

Clearly that Tweet could have been written by the Archbishop of Canterbury himself. I think you should spend time doing some research into religions and faith in general as you do come across as a half wit. Said in love of course -

I think what he is saying/implying is that all Christians are Nazis. I don't think you can say billions are all the same though and is a sweeping generalisation.
