Players don't care about history. As much as they like to trot out the, "this is a great club with great fans and a great history," line whenever they sign for a new club, all they actually care about is money and how likely they are to be competing towards the top of the table for a Champions League spot. That is the advantage Spurs have on us at the moment, they are more likely to get into the top 4 next year with our current squads. On the other hand, they didn't make the CL places this year and have a larger wage bill to service. As a result they might have less money to spend on new signings, possibly handing us an advantage.

No, they should treat him as a man with mental health issues because he is a man with mental health issues. Sadly it may well be too late to help Gazza now, his problems might have gone beyond the point of no return. I couldn't say without knowing him personally but I think the time to help him was 20 odd years ago. Someone should have kicked his arse in gear and sorted him out when he was younger, instead of going out on the **** with Chris Evans and Danny Baker every night.

Normally I don't have a lot of sympathy for alcoholics but with Gazza I think things are a bit worse. He has had numerous mental health issues for a long time and his alcohol problems have spilled largely from that and making some poor friend choices in his life. He isn't just some p*ss head like Best or Winehouse.

For a start they are demanding 25m euros, which is only £21m (can't believe I've just described a Saints transfer target as "only" being £21m but there you go). Secondly, if they are demanding that, the negotiated transfer fee will probably be a few million lower. We could potentially argue it down to £17-20m. Thirdly our club isn't being run by chimpanzees. They wont spunk the entire transfer kitty on one player (forgetting Lovren for a moment) and then suddenly remember, 'oh crap, we need some other players too. They will have had a sensible transfer and wage structure planned out months ago on how much they're willing to spend and what amount they are willing to pay for one particular player etc.

TBF, the plumbing at Fratton does sound a bit like that.

I wont believe this is true until I hear Mark lawrenson say, "he'll never sign for Southampton."

I can't see anything other than a defeat in this match I'm afraid.

It's a friendly against an, at best, 'rotated' Real Madrid squad. Bompey are asking for more money than Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea et. al would for a competitive Premier League ticket. I think some people get carried away with regards to the quality of foreign teams sometimes, saying things like, 'he must be good because he's scored a few in the Champions League.' In actual fact most of the goals were against teams like Sparta Prague and Helsingborg. Pompey fans talked about the draw with AC Milan being one of the best results in their history, when in actual fact that team was no better than someone like Liverpool. In a nut shell, I wouldn't pay more than half what Bompey are asking.
-
That was a while back though, he's 29 now and his scoring record isn't exactly fantastic. 11 Premier League goals last season and 4 the year before.

Anyone else going this weekend? I can only get to Saturday unfortunately.

All the good stuff with St Will got deleted when someone started posting a load of pictures of him from his FB account (I think). If you want you can read him having a good old chin wag with Delldays on this thread. Post #180 pretty much sums up his SWF career. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?17032-Saints-4-1-Gillingham-Post-Match-W00Ting

Been watching live and was shocked at the news. it was a heavy shunt but it didn't look THAT bad. Then again I thought the same about Dale Earnhardt's crash. RIP Allan.

Zing! We used to do this on Sunday nights at Flemming Park but we haven't done it for years. The numbers pretty much dropped off.

Thank you Earthling, your cooperation has been noted. When I rule the universe, your death shall be quick and painless.

Does anyone know when the Sky schedule is released and for how many weeks it will cover? There's a few of these games I need to book the day off work long in advance.

If they get a swear jar in the board room it should add a couple of million to the transfer budget.

I haven't seen a lot of him but he looks a decent prospect to me. For a 20 year old playing his first season in English football to get 24 goals is one heck of an achievement. We payed £7m for JRod after a similar season but he was 3 years older and had been playing in England his whole career. I'd say £8m is probably a reasonable enough fee for Vydra.

Yoanne Folly was terrible. He was instrumental in some of our worst performances when we went down, including the defeats at Spuds and Villa. In another game he was brought on as a sub and taken off again half an hour later. -
Reminds me of what Fox tried to do against Man City when we conceded from our own corner.

Not being made to look silly specifically. Just any kind of argument with anyone.

True but bare in mind Yoshida had played 90 minutes against one of the best attacking teams in the world in their own back yard. He had a tough game, the game was lost and he was probably knackered. Jo had fresh legs, a point to prove and was fighting for a place in the squad. Yoshi's positioning and movement was okay, Jo just had an extra yard of pace on him.
