The how much will we spend in the summer thread
Lighthouse replied to Avenue Saint's topic in The Saints
We haven't exactly finished this season badly either. Okay no win in 5 but drawing at Swansea and Sunderland is a decent enough result. Most teams will lose at WHL and we were the better team. West Ham at home... meh. The West Brom game was the only real disappointment. -
The Danes quite like their trips to Sweden. Think they won the last Eurovision there, not to mention Euro '92. On another note, I've got to go to Ukraine some time.

The how much will we spend in the summer thread

I think that would be a pretty poor return personally. We are pretty much 11th going in to the final game of the season, albeit a point off. Spending £30m to go from 11th to 9th would be quite disappointing and would mean very little improvement on our current squad. Without our terrible start we'd probably be about 8th or 9th anyway. -
What, a talented player who we will fail badly to get fit for about six months, then drop him, bring him back at LB and get him seriously p*ssed off by continuous managerial changes and board room shenanigans? I don't think that will happen again under this regime. If they're good enough, bring them in. I'd have no problems with another Skacel. It's another Neil McCann I don't want.

Let's not fall in to the trap of thinking ALL the extra TV revenue was available for transfer fees. If it was everyone would be splashing the cash. Just looking at the Samba deal. That wasn't a £12m signing, that was a £35m signing, not including agents fees etc. I would be surprised if our net spend was more than £30m again this summer. -
Could this be the first time singing, "there's a funny smell of bacon over there" is actually funny?

Pilotless Air Travel, would you trust your life to it?
Lighthouse replied to buctootim's topic in The Lounge
Would you get a on a plane which had that kind of design philosophy? Would be rather unnerving for the passengers thinking the pilot wasn't onboard because it is considered too dangerous. I can't take anything like this seriously whilst we still have train and tube drivers (The latter of which get paid a lot more than an newly recruited airline pilot.) A train which runs in one direction, along a fixed track at a fixed altitude. All there is to control is the speed and if there is a problem you can just stop. If a vehicle this simple still has a driver (main down to unions) then pilotless commercial airlines are decades away. -
Good Luck To Hammond, Bridge & Philips Tonight!!!

The WBA game had nothing riding on it, we were dreadful throughout and it wasn't the last home game of the season. Brighton put in a decent enough performance but were beaten by some individual brilliance in a very tight game. I like to think if we had a stinker against Stoke we'd at least stay for the lap of honour and applaud the players off. -
Have we ever had a season when the managers of the top 3 clubs all leave? Not surprised. I don't really rate Mancini but I do think this was short sighted.

Can't believe the Amex emptied itself before FT like that. They have had a brilliant season to even make the play offs and then walk out with 4 minutes plus stoppage time remaining. Don't even stop to show their appreciation for the players after the final whistle. Ungrateful gits. Whoever goes up will have a tough time of it next year. Watford have no players, can't buy any and Palace will likely lose their star player. -

There are many things a computer couldn't do. - Recognise a flock of birds in the vicinity of the airport and delay departure until they had been scared off. - Correctly use a weather radar. Pilots can look at radar reflections and tell the difference between a violent CB and just patches of heavy rain. Military radar can frequently cause interference and appear as a large red stripe on the screen. - Hear unusual noises. - Smell unusual smells. - Land on anything other than a CATIIIb certified runway. Even if you are flying between major airports with this capability, it would rule out a lot of airports in case of an emergency diversion. - Take off -Taxi - Recognise and deal with turbulence. Even only light or moderate levels, a pilot will often change altitude if possible for the comfort of everyone on board. A computer will just sit there fat dumb and happy. It wont warn other pilots, it wont warn the cabin crew or passengers. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I could come up with a lot more if I thought about it. -

Sorry I thought you were implying commercial flights will soon be pilotless. Unmanned drone missions in war zones are one thing. Nobody really gives a crap if they crash because nobody is on board but they do crash. -

No they wont. We aren't ready for even a single pilot commercial aircraft yet, let a lone a pilotless aircraft. A small demonstration aircraft with a pilot on board doing the take off and landing isn't even close to being pilotless. There are a thousand and one things a pilotless aircraft couldn't do. Having pilots on the ground instead of the aircraft would be more feasible but if the data link between the ground and the cockpit was lost that would be a serious issue. -
I'd go with ------------------Boruc Clyne -----Yoshi -------Forren -------Shaw -------------Morgan -----Cork ---- Puncheon-----Davis ---- Mayuka ---------------------JRod I'd give it a go with Lambert and Lallana coming off the bench. Neither have really done it recently so I'd be inclined to try something different.

Up at 4am and about to set off up the motorway with JusticeMike. Saints, you had better win this, or else!!!

Personally I think Yoshi is an absolute beast when he has confidence in the players around him. When Fox is there and/or Jos is having a bad game, he tends to make mistakes. I reckon with Clyne, Shaw and another partner more reliable than Jos he could be a decent player in a Europe aimed team. He looked decent next to Fonte a lot of the time but neither of those two are all that physical and would get pushed around by a player like Lukaku or Lambert.
-
Truth be told, our defence has been decent since we signed Forren anyway. Aside from Bale's wonder goal we haven't conceded in 4 away games. That kind of form is virtually unheard of in the bottom half. We've had the odd shocker like West Brom and Newcastle but even the latter was down to an offside wonder-goal and Fox self destructing. We conceded 1 goal against Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City and 2 at Old Trafford and 0 against Everton. All of which points towards a decent enough defence. There is no need to throw Forren in yet if we don't have to.

Christ MLG you really don't get it do you. He will keep on posting endless sh*te because that's what he does. He doesn't care if it's wrong he will just come up with some other nonsense to peddle for the whole season. He is just some sad, sad little man sat behind a keyboard, probably laughing his tits off because saps like you are still obsessing over his 17th prediction from over a year ago. As for being safe... it would take something monumental for Wigan to raise their game to that standard again at Arsenal. Never say never but you always have a cup final hangover, even if you don't get drunk. A point for both sides will probably keep both teams up. I can see us playing out a very flat and convenient draw. Hopefully not, it's a very long drive for a 0-0.
-
Sounds a bit too Scouse for me, I'll pass thanks.
-
Mancini out? Being hopelessly outclassed by Utd wont have pleased the owners this season. That might just have done it for him. Fantastic, magical end to a cup final. Delighted for Wigan. They are (hopefully) going down but wow.
-
That's based on faith in our management and b*gger all else really. I'm assuming he is better than Jos and Fonte otherwise we wouldn't have bothered signing him. Obviously if we signed someone else like Astori he would walk into the centre of our defence (hopefully he would move a bit quicker when he gets there).
-
My personal starting XI Boruc Clyne - Yoshi - Forren - Shaw Cork - Morgan ????? - Gaston - ????? JRod Bench: K. Davis Fonte S. Davis/JWP Lallana/Puncheon Lambert + another offensive and one defensive new signing I'm not entirely convinced Lambert is the future. He's done a decent job at every level but I can't help but fear Premier League defenders will have him figured out next season. QPR and West Brom have already got it nailed on. Stick a big CB on him and don't let him give him any time on the ball. I'm not entirely sure either way. Half of me thinks you can't drop lambert, he is the top English goal scorer FFS. The other half isn't convince he will take us into Europe. He would be a great option to have on the bench obviously. He Lallana and Puncheon can all come on and change the game.

Confirmed on SSN. Moyes will be the new man.

I think a larger chunk of prize money for progressing would make teams take it more seriously. I doubt teams like Fulham and Stoke would put a reserve team out against each other if there was £10m at steak for getting to the final.
