Saints 4 Dugout Pioneers 1 - Post Match
Baird of the land replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Best performance of the season by Saints. Lots of quick passing. Clearly everton are a mess but we needed to put them to the sword and we did so comfortably. Gives the manager some breathing room & takes the silly monkey over lack of goals off team as well somewhat. My MOM was Hojberg, such a different player in the one and a bit games i've seen him in this season than his appearances last season. Deserves a run in the team ahead of romeu who has been average this season. Not Austin's biggest fan usually but if he can do that in the box regularly i'll happily accept the lack of his all round game. After reading all the so called fans at half time on the match thread berating the manager and the team just because Sigurdsson pulled off a worldy of a shot it was lovely to see the team show them up. -
This season the premier league has depressed me. So many poor teams, such a gap between top 6 & uncompetitive rest. Saints just one of that poor pack.

McCarthy Cedric yoshi van dijk Bertrand Hojberg Davis Boufal hesketh McQueen Gabbi Time to try couple of youngsters & hopefully McCarthy over sir palms a lot.

Still not completely in the out camp, mainly because options being spouted are so terrible such as Fat sam etc. Though if i was told it was Adkins coming back i'd be happier in the out camp. As good as potch was, it still hurts how we ditched him.

First goal tadic was terrible. Undid all the work of being organised that we'd put in to nullify them for first 20 minutes by a moment of stupidity. Third goal forster was terrible palming it right onto penalty. Hope that isn't what he is being coached to do. Only relief is that there are so many poor sides in the league. Next week vs everton is going to be huge. Think Pellegrino will hang on till then but if he comes out of that without a positive result & display of some description his days will be numbered.

I'd prefer returning to Long and Gabbi to be honest but playing Long makes complete sense to me especially away.

Nice to see hesketh back and scoring

Saints 0 Burnley 1 - Post Match Meltdown
Baird of the land replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
There was a period either side of half time where we were playing well. Boufal and Redmond in particular were trying to make things happen. Davis and Romeu were ticking along nicely too. Then worryingly either our team's fitness was completely lacking or the opposition changing shape meant we barely had any decent possession from then on. Austin did nothing when he came on other than being lucky not to be sent off after he lunged to poke on a ball he was too slow and poor to control properly. The goal we conceded was poor. Maybe being harsh on forster but he seemed tremendously slow in reacting to it. Personally i'm not sure the manager is the problem, more an issue with the combination of players we have. We need a new striker in January, one with some aerial ability. Or else get Gallagher back and give him a go. -
First 20 minutes were absolutely awful. Then we started to play with a greater intensity & created a couple of chances. Still by no means perfect but if we can carry on playing like that in 2nd half there's a good chance we can get the win.
-
You can only think Pellegrino is rotating the centre backs in an attempt to keep them all relatively happy in the short term. Maybe Liverpool will make a silly offer in Jan for Van Dijk. Tadic has blown hot and cold this season but he certainly hasn't been utterly awful throughout imo Though not sure what Redmond has done anything to deserve his recall but JWP his free kick apart was rather mediocre last week. Just hope redmond actually takes on players given he's been given the chance.

Thought we started well and got a nice goal. Felt we were largely in control first half but didn't press enough for the 2nd for my liking. 2nd half i thought we were pretty poor. Really frustrating at the end how players seemed to be out of ideas & just passing backwards rather than try a through ball or putting it in the box. Think we really need to sign a target man in Jan if we are going to persist with being desperate to get the ball out wide for crosses. I'd have preferred 3 points away to brighton but they aren't a pushover based on their previous results this season. Definitely not in the pellegrino out camp either. Needs to be given full season to see if can get more out of us than mid table mediocrity which we are probably on course for.
-
Hard on Yoshi. Assume it's politics. Big new signing expressing unhappiness at lack of starts & suddenly he's in the team. Glad to see Boufal starting, hope he's operating more centrally though. Still think Long should be starting away.
-
Can’t see us being involved in relegation fight. Not sure we are going to be competing for top 8 unless we work out how to get the best out of our talented squad either though. Other than stoke result we’ve picked up points against all midtable & bottom teams even if we haven’t won them all.
-
Like the looks of that
-
Important win. Takes some pressure off the players for the game against Brighton. Boufal should get a chance to start the next few now hopefully. Wonder if romeu’s Automatic starting spot is under pressure.
-
Too immobile as far as i’m Concerned & I don’t think we either play a style or have the players to utilize how he had success at qpr.
-
Wonder if WBA are going to have keeper issues for this. Myhill couldn't kick by the end of this evening's game & foster missed the game with an injury. As for us. Stick with Long and Gabbi pls.
-
Really wish JWP could hit his free kicks like that at first team level.

Wouldn't want yedlin challenge to be a straight red but it was a second yellow. There's a huge issue of consistency though in decision making on those sort of lunges recently. I don't want players scared of tackling by fear of any mistiming resulting in a straight red. Equally I thought the head injury thing was hugely inconsistent. Last season we conceded after ref forced one of our players off whereas here he let them both stay on and also awarded a highly dubious possession to them when it appeared that if anyone had the ball it was us.

Amazed by how disorganised Saints are defensively against such a mediocre team. I fear the score line when we come up against the likes of Man City. Positives we got 2 goals and a point, coming twice from behind. Gabbi took his first goal very well, long got us the second by some smart play drawing the foul and it was the best penalty finish i've seen from a saint in some time. Romeu was poor today. Lemina still looking good. Tadic very good in first half, quieter in the 2nd. Boufal has to be given a chance to start ahead of redmond. After forster had a string of games where he looked reasonably solid comes a terrible game. Miskick, getting caught out by crosses and that awful 2nd goal(a bad parry and then not covering the near post) I really would like Austin gone. He's just so slow and immobile. Maybe suits a team with byline wingers and andy carroll upfront but certainly not saints. I'd much prefer gallagher coming off our bench than warming the birmingham one.
-
You'd think we're playing rugby union the amount we pass the ball backwards currently Coupled with the fact we play at a pace in line with walking football much of the time Also the massive gap in the middle of the pitch when we attack frustrates me. It's just so obvious we will shovel it wide because there's no one there. Tadic has been bright today. Long Decent. Redmond horrible. Gabbi absent. Goal very poor. Why no one wanted to mark the guy on the edge of our own box baffles me.
-
Like the looks of the lineup. Was hoping to see Gabbi tried in a deeper role with long up top.

Liked the below story. Shows how sometimes a coach has to be willing exert their authority. http://www.football365.com/news/he-broke-me-lambert-on-pochettinos-training-methods

Denamrk or the swiss for me. Really want to avoid Italy.

I think it is a reasonable compromise. Gives youngsters a taste of real football to help their development while being a million miles away from the horror of having B sides competing in the actual league.
