Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day

Wouldn't mind at all if we sign him. Hopefully seeing how Bertrand/Romeu have bloomed here will help swing the deal. -
Disappointed by Hesketh absence. Hopefully he's just on the mend not still crocked or a sign he's on his way out.

Teams gamble every season, lots of times those supposed upgrades aren't upgrades. The thing about gambling is sometimes sticking is a good strategy. After being part of mad churn of having to sell and then having to buy and try and integrate replacements, having a largely settled squad for once seems a advantage imo. We spent a lot of money on Hojberg/Boufal and it makes perfect sense to give them a second season to prove themselves rather than panicking and hoping the next spin will provide us the perfect finished article. I'd be very happy with just one signing that improves the first 11. -
I'm very much in the keep him band. remember we'd have to give celtic a cut too. We'd not to be able to replace him with someone comparably good. Plus if someone as unproven as Keane is going for 30m, then we're likely going have to spend a large chunk of the fee just to bring in someone with good pedigree.

Far too early to describe Boufal or Hojberg as a dud after one season imo, especially boufal who had a massively disrupted season. Or pied who looks a capable 2nd choice in between an unlucky injury. Cuco did a job for us for a very low fee too. Equally everytime you buy anyone it could turn out to be a dud. Think we've done reasonably well on the whole in terms of ratio. Clasie had pedigree but hasn't worked out for him. Also ignoring all the duds everton have signed in the past and assuming all their new buys will be unqualified successes. -

Not interested in developing lotus cheek for Chelsea. If we bought him at least we would get benefit of knocking the very rough edges off him this season but a loan means we get all the risk on an unproven player , they get all the benefit. I'd say let him go to a rival. We should focus on getting a permanent transfer in. -
Well we have done something, change the coach which is exactly what Everton did last season after they had an underperforming Martinez. Don't think our team needs radical surgery. We bought well in January getting gabbi and if we can get one quality midfielder in I'd be reasonably happy we could at least give them a run for their money.
-
Story also on Echo that club happy to let him go on loan or a permanent deal. Also see echo article says Taylor is only there because the club want to take 3 goalkeepers to every game. Must be the easiest gig in the world.
-
Good to see he sounds motivated. Was worried he might want a fresh start somewhere after a horrendous season in front of goal. Think it will help that he will have had the summer off rather than coming back after euros. Hopefully he can get on a run like 2 seasons ago where he was an important player in our success.

Puel to blame for our poor televised game ratio!

Harrison Reed - Official: Signs for Fulham
Baird of the land replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
On paper could be a good move for him but it's clearly dependent on him playing regularly. As we've seen in past with Gallagher at mk and Stephens at Middlesbrough these loans can go very wrong. As others have said it's likely his last chance to impress given his age with aim on pushing on in saints first team the season after. -
Backroom staff, all those in favour..Hands up for Sammy Lee

See echo is suggesting Black is staying. Was hoping Black would be off as his CV is one of specialist in failure which sends all the wrong messages imo. Hope echo is wrong or he bucks the trend he's set at previous clubs and we excel next season. -

You clearly don't like yoshida if you think signing Wimmer(Spurs 4th choice centre back) or the mr 50p head are upgrades on him. Personally i'm happy with yoshida/stephens over either of those 2. Having an experienced japanese international who's also shown himself to be a fantastic professional and a highly talented england u21 international is exactly what we need in terms of 2/3 choice centre backs. -

Can't see us adding a keeper or a centre given the existing players we have. -

Seems a good deal for all parties. Since his injury he hasn't seemed anywhere as effective as well as the fact we haven't used him out wide where he was at his most effective for us. Now we've got Gallagher he was obvious candidate we could move on.
-
I don't rate bringing in a coach who's coaching career has been one of bouncing from one bottom to low mid table disaster to another when your stated aim is to be competing at the top end of the table.
-
I'm sure using Aldridge mouthing off gives Liverpool plausible deniability. Doesn't change the fact this sudden re-stirring of the hornet nest by the media seems very pre-meditated. Really hope Saints stick to their guns and don't sell him to Liverpool. As for Van Dijk whilst ex players talking of striking is one thing i'd be surprised if he/his agent think actually striking would be a good move.
-
See it says we haven't got rid of Black yet either. Hopefully that'll be first move of whoever comes in.

Would be pretty happy with chambers back. -
Thought Clasie was very good in first leg of semi vs Liverpool and in game against WBA where he scored. Hoping new manager like De Boer might give him a run in the team next to Romeu but he may very well want t o move on after his lack of opportunities last year.
-
Sorry don't see the appeal of Dyche, not in style of football nor results.
-
I have no problem being used as a stepping stone as that means we've done very well as a club in the meantime. The alternative is mediocrity where you don't do well enough for them to move on.
-
Good to get it out of the way. Clearly whether it'll be a good decision will likely be determined by how sound a choice we make in replacing him.
-
Probably quite a good move for him if true. Shame he never really has seemed quite the same player as before, though when he was at his best for us it was out wide rather than through the middle where he played this season.
