CONFIRMED - Mane joins Liverpool for £34m + £2m addons
Baird of the land replied to toe_punt's topic in The Saints
That's a frustrating sale. Was hoping personally we'd keep him the extra year and sell for 11/12M next year. I can sort of see the logic with it being african nations year and it being abundantly clear that he wouldn't sign a new contract. Still replacing someone who can be a devastating game changer is going to be extremely hard. Black Box has some major work cut out for it. As someone else said i severely hope Redmond isn't considered the like for like replacement. -
Nathan Redmond Joins on 5 Year Deal - Official
Baird of the land replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Seems a good signing to me and in a position i felt we definitely needed to strengthen. For someone that young, talented and british i think the fee is fairly reasonable too. Find it extremely humorous that someone could describe a 22 year old as a journeyman. -
I doubt vote will have any effect on Bosman. Where it might very well have an effect is on recruitment of EU players who will now likely need to meet the same visa requirements as non EU players currently do.
-
Glad to see its finally over and we can hopefully use the 11m to reinvest in that position. I'd be much more worried about losing Mane. Personally i've never been Vic's biggest fan. He's a good player and as a defensive shield he can at times be immense but i still think he's rather technically limited. We'll see how he adapts to life at Spurs where one would presume first first job will be to try and break into the first xi.

Wasn't ever on the Pellegrini bandwagon, so i'm rather content if its true he's no longer in contention.
-
Understandable fee given the length of time he was on his contract. Was hoping we'd squeeze them up to the amount we paid for him originally.

Super annoyed at Nord Iron. Set up to lose and so lost. After playing positively in friendlies and qualifiers it was such a kick in the teeth. Why be scared stiff of an opposition that had drawn with both the republic and Scotland in qualification.

Pelle Set to Leave For China - Telegraph
Baird of the land replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
We generally play one up front. Long excelled in that role 2nd half of the season, we've invested in a highly paid striker in Austin who no doubt expects to get opportunities too. That's excluding Jrod who hopefully will have a less injury prone season. I'd be amazed in Pelle(currently in the Italian team) would have any intention of playing third fiddle to them. Cashing in on him at 31 likely makes sense for both parties, we get some money back for him and he gets a last big contract somewhere. -

Definitely feel we need a pacey wide man addition so wouldn't complain at all if it turns out to be Redmond. -
Didn't think he was particularly impressive tactically at times this season. Keeping a Bournemouth side up but finishing behind a Tony Pulis side isn't the sort of achievement that should put you on a shortlist for a team aiming for the top 6. Lacks any european experience or status outside of england. His failure at Burnley. His pompey link.

Yeah don't see either Howe or Pellegrini as good fits, Emery seems highly unlikely to be interested. Not going to get excited about some random mystery option. Pretty bleak list.

Pelle has done a good job for us over the last 2 years. However i don't have an issue with him moving elsewhere even if that is another prem club. He's at an age where it makes sense and we've clearly spent money and wages to bring in Austin to play rather than sit on the bench. Equally i doubt Pelle at this stage wants to play second fiddle to Long/Austin. -
Don't want Moyes anywhere near Saints. Utterly backwards move if it happens. I'm happy hearing rumours that De Boer isn't interested in Lazio.Think he'd be the natural fit and still surprised that Everton didn't go for him preferring to spend a huge sum to prise free Koeman. Still need to understand if his agent did really say no about Saints job as reported. I wouldn't even mind Lazio's new target Bielsa, someone who would excite if he came to Saints.
-
Not sure i want us to go for someone who wouldn't have ambition of managing at higher level(stepping stone). Smacks of settling for rank mediocrity.
-
Disappointed Koeman made what is in reality a sideward step. I'll laugh like anything if he flops like Alan Ball at City and just hope we get the better of them next season. Crossing my fingers that we get the right replacement.
-
Disappointing if its true that De Boer is out of the running. Sounds like Emery is a non starter too. Poll is now a case of ranking by most objectionable rather than any sense of excitement for me at least. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that there's a hidden left field option out(Bielsa) that might at least stir some excitement in me.
-
De Boer seems the perfect fit to me.
-
Not overly happy with the supposed shortlist. Really don't want moyes or Avb. Very unsure on Howe, don't know enough about emery. Surprised de boer isn't on the shortlist too.

England finally starting to look a little bit more dangerous now they have proper wide players in, rather than trying to shoehorn 3 stikers and an attacking centre mid into the same formation.

I'd be happy with the notion of buying chambers back but not loaning him back. Same with the ox. -
Targett played 19 games this season which is pretty reasonable for a 20 year old. There's clearly something about reed or his attitude Koeman doesn't like so while Koeman is here i doubt he'll come through. Really needs a good loan move in short term. i still hope Stephens might get a chance next season. He's done well repeatedly on loan. Mccarthy did very well at Wycombe too. Only 20. So maybe another successful loan move at a higher level and he might be considered. Isgrove i think will leave. A decent footballer but probably not prem quality. Turnbull hasn't pulled up too many trees at swindon from the feedback i've got from a swindon acquaintance. Mcqueen Can't see him making it.

K.Billy: "5 players want to leave this Summer"
Baird of the land replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Can't afford to lose both Mane and Tadic imo. Especially gutting to lose Tadic as the combination up front with Long was just starting to click. -
Yep perfect result. I won money betting on United, we skip the group stages, more games for a west ham side who are likely to spend big in the summer. I feel sorry for Palace but the selfish Saints pragmatic element wins for me.

Hope utd win, we get into europa automatically, van gaal keeps his job and hence united suffer yet another poor season next year and this time we get to finish above them
