Can't believe people trying to defend this post. I posted Long's stats in this thread when he was still "the understudy" and being played out of position and typically for only parts of games... Even then he came out better than Tadic which was the point I made with the stats and somewhat ended the argument I would have thought on this thread. Despite that, people are still going on about it and trying to save face now as well. MLG is correct. It was bloody clear that Long was a quality player for us. Even when he was out wide and even when he was only getting bit part appearances. The point people were making on this thread was frankly embarrassing and its even more cringe watching people trying to defend or weasel out of it now.

We dont sit to pretty in the net debt table, and we are one of the highest in the wages to turn over table... Considering we have been banking massive TV payouts for recent seasons with no significant transfer spend I find that slightly underwhelming.
-
He has a track record as a cronic liar...
-
You are dreaming if you think we can afford any of their wages. Lets be clear.. we've spent 3 years trying to get 60k a week gaston off the books. Most we pay is around 45-50k. Morgan is nearly double that.

Premiership stadiums getting bigger, hope we don't get left behind
Saint86 replied to 9-3's topic in The Saints
Saints need to expand the stadium with the tv monies and drop the ticket price if they must to fill it. One day the tv monies will end. When that happens we will be left with a 32k stadium and those who have expanded to 50k, 60k, 70k will be there with their larger match day revenues and saints will be back in a stadium bringing in 30% of the big clubs as the major share of our income (bar sales). We are on top now, the prem is on top now... build for the future. On another note. Their are league 2 and 1 clubs that have stadiums of a comparable size to saints. Thats my view. I'd take worse football for a few years to build something special and fund it with the tv monies... I mean hell, we appear to just bank them anyway... -
I think this is a load of ballarks to be honest. And also some of the posters on this thread need to get a serious grip on themselves. If we can survive (and improve on) a summer where our club captain, club talisman, best youth player since Bale, another cracking youth player and one of our best centre backs in the prem all leave, then I think we can survive Tadic, Pelle and co leaving. The only one we'll really miss is Mane, and we will cash that in for all its worth so who cares?!?!?! We've shown how well we can spend as a club plenty of times. I'm personally happy for pelle to leave, we'll get what we paid for him (more or less) and in the meantime he's score some key goals for us. As for Tadic, earlier in the season most of the halfwits on here started a thread saying we should sell long and said he was a waste of cash compared to Tadic. He's a good player, but seriously? People think he is irreplaceable? I have no issues with selling him and getting a decent replacement... Townsend, ox etc? And thats just the english ones... The midfield has been imbalanced for a while and selling wanyama gives us a chance to correct that and build a new one. No worries for me there. A good player, but one that had rubbish discipline and at times couldn't hit a barn door with a pass at 6 yards. Excited to see what we bring in in his place. Think the reactions in this thread are a bit of a joke tbh. Our key players are Long, Forster, Fonte, VVD, Claise, Mane, Davis and Bertrand. Only one of those is linked away and if Mane goes we'll get a shed load of dosh to reinvest.

Negatives: Less games which means less income from match days. This is most felt at the lower rungs of the league ladder where tv money contributes less to teams incomes. Positives: Less games for these teams so lower injuries, less fatigue, more competitive in cups etc More promotion/playoffs etc. More teams in the football league

It is you, you've been caught on earlier posts knowing exactly who Glasgow was despite not even being on the forum when he was here... give it up.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3596925/Ronald-Koeman-Mauricio-Pochettino-Nigel-Adkins-meet-Kelvin-Davis-testimonial.html Really intersting photo here of nigel adkins, Poch and Keoman with KL.... I quite like it

So, the daily fail are reporting that Chelsea are about to sign a new kit deal with Nike worth..... £65m a year. On top of that, here are the other current kit deals in the prem: 1) Manchester United - adidas (£75m-a-year) 2) *Chelsea - Nike (£60m-a-year) 3) Arsenal - Puma (£30m-a-year) 4) Chelsea - adidas (£30m-a-year) 5) Liverpool - New Balance (£25m-a-year) 6) Manchester City - Nike (£12m-a-year) It really puts our deal into perspective (United can buy the Leicester team each year purely on one kit deal...) and shows how much we need to step up commercially even now. Don't know what rock I have been living under, but I honestly did not realise we were so far behind the big clubs on this. Also, how on earth are city that far behind!!!!

Premiership stadiums getting bigger, hope we don't get left behind
Saint86 replied to 9-3's topic in The Saints
The thing is, nothing last forever and the premier league will not be top dog or have the tv money forever. We need to expand the stadium and have that base of fans for when that day comes. -
According to that everton thread we are the same size club as preston and wigan though... so Koeman needs to step up from that level.....
-
The everton fans are some of the most deluded i have ever come accross.... used to like them as well. Think they'll be flirting with relegation in a few years without quality investment and a good manager anyway. Regardless. check these out rofl: "He'll definitely leave them. His track record as a player and manager is one that generally indicates he doesn't stick around for long anywhere. He hasn't signed an extension, and that tells me he's on the lookout. Also, we're obviously an upgrade in Southampton. Take the last two seasons out as a Martinez-led anomaly, and we're a massively bigger club." "Agreed. I said in the other thread that once again we're looking to employ a manager who has to step up to our level. Regardless of league positions these last two years I think even Soton fans will agree Everton is a step up for Koeman." This one is a gem: "Aye.We should be looking at the likes of Mourinho and Pellegrini, not Koeman and De Boer. But we're in a scenario where we haven't shown ambition on and off the pitch for a long time, so it's difficult to attract top drawer candidates on that basis. At least the shortlist is better than Martinez, Stubbs and Neville this time around." "But we sure as heck have moved on from the starting position with our last two appointments, when we moved for the coaches of Preston North End and Wigan Athletic. The response to this was - "To be fair Southampton isn't that much bigger a club to come from either." followed by... I'm with you: bit underwhelmed but not enough to vote "no"...gone for the rabbit on toast option" "Would be a side ways move for Everton I think. Not impressed by him really. Should be looking bigger with more upside. If mid table is what we want then yes go for him."
-
I had us down for promotion in pre season... but then i had complete faith in Adkins. He had a good crop of players and he delivered. At sheffield and Reading he had crap and delivered a fair result regardless. He achieves was is realistic, expectations are another thing.

It boils down to whether we want to give up our sovereignty because we feel like we cannot govern ourselves and a self sufficient democracy... Or to put it another way... given the shambles on the EU run continent, do we honestly think they can govern us better than we can ourselves? and are people really going to vote to that effect?!?!?! Ignore the scaremongering, do you want a parliament that you directly elected having control over your lives. Or do you want the citizens of poland, germany, france, turkey (in a few years) etc electing people that pass laws governing your life... that tell us what products we can sell in our shops, whether we can dredge flood risk rivers, what road signs need to be changed... That is the fundamental story for me. If you look past this and at all the scaremongering that goes on then the misinformation and propaganda campaign of this government is a joke. Security... For starters, the eu is not a defensive alliance, that is Nato!! Most of the eu do not even contribute the required amount of their GDP into defence anyway... on top of that, the immediate threat to the UK and its citizens (us, your kids, your parents etc etc) is terrorism... and being in a uk with open borders to Turkey and the fact that we will eventually get dragged into Shengen is frankly alarming! There are hundreds of thousands of unregistered migrants floating around europe as it is and this situation is only ever going to worsen. Trade - we have a growing trade deficit... Europe is not a successful economic region in relative terms and as a trading alliance is actually very limited with regards to industry, resources etc etc. No need to limit ourselves to this. In addition, if we are such an unimportant economy that is unable to survive alone in the world... then why is the whole fecking western economy stalling over a concern that we might leave the EU... TTIP. If you don't know what that is then look it up... Most alarming backdoor trade agreement in my lifetime. god knows what else. Long story short, if you believe that Britain is incapable of managing itself then vote to stay in. If you still have an ounce of national self respect vote to leave and build a stronger britain.
-
In other words..... We have to finish at least 7th to get european football... Therefore, come on Bournemouth, Stoke and Chelsea!!
-
My understanding of the rules now is that 8th will not get Europa league. So we are fortunate that we will beat palace and west ham will not win away at stoke!
-
Put your chip away, it is incredibly embarrassing. Saints have been getting loads of plaudits this year and if anything our lack of hype is because people associate us with our position and performances...Where as west ham and Leicester have over achieved in the media's eyes.... Seriously dell sized mentality on display here.

We'll see if thats the case next tuesday...
-
sorry, i mean if 7th place gets CL qualification, does the EL spot go to 8th?
-
My understanding is that the prem gets as standard 4 CL places, and 1 Europa league place. Then, if a top 5 team wins the capital one cup, 6th place gets the EL spot? Then, if a top 6 team wins the FA Cup, 7th place gets the EL spot? But then, if 7th place win the CL, doesn't 8th place get the EL spot? Or do i have this totally wrong? General question

Gonna call BS on that I'm afraid

Lowe investing in the youth development and stadium are the two things that ultimately saved the club. His weakness was his business decisions with regards to transfers and he should never have listened to the fans and hired Hoddle back. As it is the fans got us sturrock and we were relegated... Do any of us care that we got relegated given where we are now? I very much doubt it? With that in mind, given that the stadium and youth set up is the foundation of why the Liebherrs purchased us and are the basis for the club we see today can I in good conscience blame Lowe? No. Get that chip of your shoulder. That man took a club from a tiny old stadium, gave us a world class youth setup and a brand new stadium with double the capacity... all with limited finances. He was also doing alright in the champ tbf before barclasy went back on their agreement and pulled the plug. Fans need to see things in perspective some times. There are Lowe's and their are Chanrais... And I am damn sure 100% of the fanbase (minus Roger maybe) would chose Lowe.
-
He didn't refuse our offer. We overlooked him and he got very salty to the local media.
-
The mere fact that you said that proves you are... I wonder how long it will take the mods to boot you off this time. Glasgow especially was banned a very long time before you joined. ****ing troll.
