  1. On Papa, he reminds me a bit of Wanchope, one minute he's shanking easy crosses into the stand, the next minute he's creating a goal-scoring opportunity. He will unsettle defenders, partly because no-one (not even him) knows with any certainty what he's going to do next. I thought it was an encouraging performance and hopefully he'll continue to improve. Lets not forget he's hardly played in over a year and he has scored goals in Serie A so there has got to be something there. Otherwise Lambert and Lallana where top class and Kelvin was woefully out of position for their shot/shanked cross, not much else to say other than we lost our shape horribly with our rash of substitutions.
  2. what is the obsession with the past on here? I was excited about GB when he joined and supported him to the end but will admit that things fell well short of expectations and that it was best for all concerned that we parted company. I didn't and don't bear him any malice and am just grateful we got some compo from Scotland instead of having to pay him off, so why not just let byegones be byegones? (Oh I do still HATE Redknapp but that's entirely different... of course )
  3. We need Camara up front alongside Lambert with 'Papa' playing down the right... both problems solved and fun (almost) guaranteed!! This management lark is EASY.
  4. Indeed, inconsistent and certainly frustrating but capable of match changing genius, would be the best player in this division by far.... F.A.C.T.
  5. I believe he also finished top goal scorer in a newly promoted team in his first season in the top flight at a young age... so 'relatively speaking' I think he was quality for them and his two goals the other day suggest he's coming back into form. To quote TDD I don't understand why people get all bitter about players when they leave.
  6. anyone at Watford who might come the other way do we think? They must have someone on the fringes who fancies being part of the red and white revolution?
  7. For me I would love to see us get shot of Saga and Rasiak to a CCC team in cash + player deals (or even just a straight swap). There was some talk of Saga going to Cov in exchange for Leon MacKenzie, that's the sort of deal I'd love us to make. We definitely need a fast wide man and another (Fit, talented, and MOTIVATED) striker to come in.
  8. thirded. I'm all in favour of some sort of exchange program. We send them all our doleys in exchange for their people looking for work.
  9. didn't he play for Brum when we murdered them at home the other season? He was all over the shop, although in his defence Kenwyne was pretty much unplayable at that time and BWP was in a rare run of form. Maybe for L1 he'd be a good, solid signing.
  10. I couldn't care less to be honest, there are enough decent players on the free list to easily compete in this league, so what's the point in spending money if we don't have to? As long as we can afford wages we can choose some quality players for this level.
  11. It's the quality of freebie that I'm interested in personally, Harding = yes there are plenty of others out there that I would not be interested in. Personally I'd be delighted with a few more like Harding and Holmes (for this league) and a couple of £250-500k youngsters with a couple of older (free) hands in key positions to act as a steadying influence. I've never had a problem wit freebies, even in the prem... my issue then (as now) was with quality so while Bolton signed Okocha, Campo, Djorkaeff we signed... Darren Kenton and Mickael Nilsson (and he wasn't even a free, he was supposed to be but we were so desperate to sign him we actually paid good money when we didn't have to).
  12. I am delighted with this appointment and his name never even crossed my mind in all the speculation. From my memories of the FA cup final, assuming it was representative of his ethos, he likes to play fast, attacking football... with 2 (TWO) attacking wingers... and it so nearly paid off against Liverpool that day. Hopefully the same will be true when we make the play-off final this year (only with a different end result). Good news at last!!! So we've had Owner speculation, manager speculation and now on to the player speculation!!!
  13. Sometimes your sheer bloodymindedness does you a massive disservice. I would be delighted with someone like Tisdale, a bright young manager who is tactically very adept and has done well in the lower divisions and non-league with very limited resources. I want us to bring in a manager who can grow with the club and he seems to fit the bill perfectly for me. Rather a young up and comer than a 'usual suspect' off the managerial merry-go-round and Peter Taylor is a busted flush in my eyes. Of the 'available, proven, managers' (who we can realistically attract, so not WGS) I would only take Boothroyd or Coppell (but prefer boothroyd because he's younger) but someone like Tisdale would be a really positive signing in my book.
  14. what he said
  15. I haven't got the patience to trawl through this website to see if this has been linked elsewhere. But someone somewhere has linked 'multi-national Financial services company' with Aviva. complete speculation no doubt but would it be their last resort? I'd imagine they don't want to own a football club but if the alternative is to see their millions flushed down the toilet and leaving them with a worthless stadium... then it wouldn't take that much of a leap? All they'd have to do is pay Barclays, and Aviva spend more than that on sponsorship deals (fook knows how much they sponsor those yacht races for).
  16. I think that if the league were to stop d1ckheads taking over football clubs, or once they were there to actually put safeguards in place to protect the fans of the club from those d1ckheads then we wouldn't have to have this 10 point deduction. Most fans don't want the club to over-reach (they might demand signings because they think we have money but not if they knew for sure there was none) it's the board that makes those decisions. In our case we've had a deeply unpopular board of directors (rightly or wrongly, am not going to debate the why's and wherefores on that particular point) that the fans have been powerless to remove and the league has done.... nothing. Then the board ****s up, we run out of money and the board walk away, admittedly having lost a sizeable sum, otherwise they don't get any kind of official punishment... so what then happens is suddenly the league swoop into action to make sure that the fans are then punished again for allowing the d1ckheads to overspend and ruin the club... What kind of a deterrent is that? It's like saying 'don't murder anyone or we'll execute someone else as a punishment' To claim that we benefitted from an unfair advantage is also a joke, since we p1ssed our money up against the wall on rubbish players anyway. I have nothing but contempt for Mawhinney and his chums. you or I had no say in who we signed or how much we spent on wages and yet it is you and I who have been made to pay the consequences. It's an ill-conceived and ill-thought out penalty put in place by a bunch of incompetents (and also inconsistent, why did Stockport county not have their 10 points deducted next season instead of this when it had no impact on them?).
  17. Fair comment, I think 'Arry ruined Griffit as well, I really think he had potential and could certainly have gone on to do well, had Arry not shipped him up to Rotherham then slagged him off for not adjusting... the tunc.
  18. I can see your point and broadly agree but choosing two players who he bought (for good money) from other clubs is probably not very well advised. Yes they made a profit on Rio but they paid a lot for a relatively inexperienced player.
  19. that was the image that was going through my mind as well, 11 Millwall players warming up for 90 mins, looking at their watches every so often
  20. Really...? This is Saints we're talking about here... Harry The Hat
  21. Well it alls looks a little bit confusing and highly worrying, but that's the price of admin, there's fook all we can do about it. We're in the hands of Mr Fry and if deal A secures the best deal for his creditors whereas deal B is in the best long-term interest of the club then, unfortunately, he's going to take deal A. There were many crowing about how forcing admin was some sort of heroic act that would deliver us from Evil... it might just yet deliver us from the frying pan into the fire. No point in *****ing about it all now, we're powerless in this all we can do is hope that these guys are true to their word, they do the deal and we come out of it stronger. Even if that hope is looking more faint by the hour.
  22. has anyone mentioned Mark Robins for the gig? I haven't tracked his progress but it wasn't long ago that he was getting rave reviews and considering he's at rotherham who don't have a pot to p!ss in that is no mean feat. Could be the sort of good, young manager we need.
  23. he could supply the ammunition for Carsten Jancker and Jan Koller to score 60 between them.... we will walk this league 1... F.A.C.T.
  24. I think everyone understands that, we're not retards.... well not all of us anyway. I don't see any harm at all in speculating as to the kind of players we need and would like to sign IF we are to be bought out and have a bit of cash to spend. None of these players will command fees, they're mostly frees and although wages might be a problem who knows what kind of clout the new owners might have (also let's not forget there will be a lot of big earners leaving over the summer). It's not like people are linking us with Beckford of Leeds or anything is it? Anyway since my last post it transpires that Scowcroft didn't turn us down, the bank blocked the deal so I would think that (given all the caveats above) he's exactly the kind of player we need.
  25. we might be his best/only option. Back then he was fighting for a place at Palace... currently he is a free agent and that might well be the case for a while... if no-body in the CCC wants him then we might represent his best option. Stranger things have happened and I guess a LOT of CCC clubs will be reducing their squad sizes this season and some players may have to drop a division to get games. All of this is assuming we are still in existence next season and have 'some' money to play with.
