  1. I do like Dixon, he's alright.... even if he does look like Tintin. and ANOTHER thing... When Lawro/Shearer will say something like 'it was a penalty but it was a bit harsh for the ref to send him off/book him' like there is ANY room for the Ref to use his judgement on issues of black/white. They're such dicks, I don't even mind Lineker much either he'd be alright with some decent pundits instead of those idiots he has to work across from currently.
  2. Nice... nice work. Did you know that 87.5% of all stats are made up? I don't think we do analysis/stats enough in this country. I hate American Football but they analyse the games in much more depth than we do 'football'. Instead we get no-nothing morons like Shearer telling us something we'd spotted about 10 mins before he did and Lineker taking the p1ss out of 'stats'. I'd like genuine insight from students of the game, like that Jonathan Wilson (?? I think?) who writes for the Guardian and wrote 'inverting the pyramid' or James Richardson. Bit of a tangental rant there...
  3. Can't believe I'm going to waste my final post of the day on this, but for old times sake.... "three players in one, he was"
  4. Mmmm, not sure this is statistically the most valid way, and who chose 6 games anyway? Generally, when analysing data, the larger the sample the more robust your findings because it smooths out the impact of 1 or 2 outliers. Obviously when it comes to form, which is often a temporary thing, then it becomes harder to decide what is right. The flipside of this is that if your last 6 games contained 1 or 2 games against good/in form teams then it will make form look worse, whereas if they were all weaker/out of form teams then it looks better. The trouble with 'form tables' is that they fail to take into account the form of the teams you've played in that time, which will inevitably have an impact. My feeling is that the longer term view gives us the most sensible indication of how Adkins is doing, ie the sample taken from day 1 because it smoothes out the outlying data (like results against the like of Peterborough and Tranmere as well as the 6-0 etc), and that tends to show that form since he got here is acceptable and if this form carries over into our remaining games (including the games in hand then we'll be fine!!). Bit of a long-winded and convoluted post that but I hope it mostly makes sense?
  5. Not sure that Arsene would let us borrow his whole team, but I agree that as plans go it's a good one, we'd win the league with a few games to spare!!
  6. Maybe we should take a leaf out of Alpine's book and just permanently reside in a pit of despair... resolutely refusing to let any ray of optimism in to lighten the gloom... you always know where you are then!! Perhaps his problem is that the team he supports are just too successful for him, perhaps someone lower down the leagues would be better....
  7. I think this goes to show that, despite the way it feels, the thing seperating us from Brighton is their excellent start to the season, We've been not far off them since Adkins came up but haven't been able to go on the run needed to overhaul them. We're doing OK, not brilliant (given expectations) but not badly either. Last night should have been better but the other teams around us also failed to capitalise... so we move on to Saturday and hope we can get the much needed 3 points.
  8. Tough guys? Aw, thanks I'm flattered. I'd never describe myself as tough but I'm sure in your mixed up little head that counts as a compliment. FWIW I'm pretty happy with where we are, if all we have to worry about is being in the playoffs, playing pretty well, winning and by winning our games in hand be in second place with (albeit only a 'bit' of) room to spare then it can't be all that bad can it? If all we have to worry about are 'what if's' then I'll take that. I'm sure those around us are more worried about us than we are them. I don't think we need to sign anyone because we do appear to have options now and a bit of variety, we're already going through the process of integrating Forte and NGuessan into the squad, I feel that adding more players to the mix 'just in case' could do more harm than good.
  9. anybody else worried about the sky falling on our heads? Or other stuff we can't do anything about? It's not ideal, but we cant do anything about it, unless you're suggesting we sign a million loan players 'just in case'?
  10. Now there's a surprise, I thought Oakley was a classy player personally, not spectacular but a good passer, read the game well (both defensively and offensively). My abiding memory of him was a pre-season friendly up at the Madjeski, the ball was whipped in (from a corner I think) it was a rubbish, overhit cross and I was describing it as such when Oakley somehow wrapped his foot around it and volleyed it into the top corner. It was a ridiculously good shot, and the reading fans afterwards were asking who the hell he was.
  11. Lol, think he signed for Bristol and rarely played... but was still the player we really needed to have signed ) Incidentally, off topic but, I noticed that Leandre Griffit is now struggling to get games in the MLS at the moment, I really thought he was going to be some player and that saggy face ruined him, but appears that despite his pace and technical ability he hasn't made the grade? Maybe an attitude problem there?
  12. probably the same people who had made their minds up that Guly was rubbish based on a 'so-so' performance against Swindon in the JPT. Absolutely no allowances made for being new to the club and having to adapt to a new way of playing, new team mates, new (moronic) fans... Am I right in thinking N'Guessan hasn't had much game time of late? He's going to be a bit rusty and will have up and downs... Also the fact he's a winger will by the nature of the position mean he's going to be good and bad at times, can't think of too many wingers who have been consistently brilliant, partly because they can be easier to isolate and the ball doesn't go out wide as often as it stays in the middle. Obviously to take any of these things into account you need to be something other than a ****tard reactionary d1nlo with no footballing brain.
  13. What he said. Jermaine was nowhere near as bad as people would have you believe, he played in an unglamourous part of the pitch and his job was to tidy it up and lay it off, a job he did reasonably well. Because he didn't run around as much as Jhon Viafara he got slated while Viafara (who was unmitigated sh1te) was hailed as some sort of hero! despite constantly stitching his midfield partner up by going missing upfield on one of his gangling runs that inevitably came to nothing. That's my view anyway, perhaps not 'bandwagony' enough for most peoples tastes though so I won't be thanked for sharing.
  14. This Go Nicola. People who shout their mouths off have to live with the consequences. '**** on my doormat and think your coming in my house do you?'
  15. What he, an Alain Perrin, said. I've been on here for ages and in previous guises it was almost addictive, I'd spend much of my working day on here (in part because the jobs I had at the time were boring). It seems to me that the people most inclined to stump up a fee are the people most inclined to kill a debate dead by acting like ***ts. In the (good) old days modding was kept to a minimum and pretty much anything went which made for a more relaxed, and funny, atmosphere.... nowadays you get infractions for upsetting Alpine... These days I come on here when I'm working from home and rarely find my 'three posts' to be limiting..... Talking of which, I now only have 1 left.... must use it wisely....
  16. I think they'll all play, looks to me like Adkins wants to give them match practice.
  17. I'm delighted for you Eric me old mate it's quite nice in sunny Winchester at the mo and I'm working from home so I might adjourn to the garden with my laptop.... It might not be as hot but I'm guessing it's a lot less dusty as well!
  18. Surely this is yet another case of Shearer stating the bleeding obvious? The man is a complete retard, how he's managed to pass himself off as a pundit for so long and WHY some people wanted him to be our manager is beyond me. He's a tool, and he seems to get by (along with many others on the MOTD team) on a bit of matey banter and NEVER disagreeing with each other. Call me old fashioned but I want genuine insight from my pundits, I want people to point out stuff I hadn't noticed, not tell me that 'defenders need to track their man' or 'the midfielders need to pass the ball the ball to the forwards' FFS
  19. How many minutes has he had on the pitch? Some of you guys should apply to be scouts for Saints, we'd never sign a **** player again with your unnerring ability to identify a player as being **** in a grand total of what 70 mins? Only saw him in the JPT and he looked a bit lost but still managed to make a couple of runs into the box, one of them a very good one culminating in a decent cross through the 6 yard box. I think he'll come good in time..... but then I'm no soooooper scout like you guys, for instance I might naively give him time to adjust to a new culture, language, style of football, new team mates.... you know, that sort of thing?
  20. I think what people generally mean is 'we've spent more money than anyone else in the league' lots of headline signings but not all are performing to their best, Hammond and Puncheon to name but two.
  21. Well IF he was dismissed fo gross misconduct then it won't have cost the club a bean. There is no obligation to honour any contractual agreements re pay in lieu of notice if someone is dismissed for misconduct.
  22. Neither is he an impartial commentator. He's trying to make cash for his club, and appears to have done so in a hamfisted fashion. I guess your opinion on who to believe will be informed by whatever your opinion is of NC, if you have doubts about him you'll believe the negative slant put on it by Scunny, if you think NC is doing a good job you're more minded to believe the club statement. For me, I think Scunnys chairman came across as a moron in his statement and my opinion has been informed largely by that. 'as I understand it' this and 'I'll find out more when I get to Glands-ford park' that.
  23. If Shearers MOTD 'punditry' (for want of a better word) is any indication of his football knowledge then he knows less than I do about the game (which isn't very much) and (unlike me) lacks any kind of self-awareness as to the paucity of his knowledge. He might be a former player but he's still a grade 'A' Tunc and I'd rather anyone but Shearer.
