  1. No Barry, they just have no money, or assets. They don't own their stadium or training ground. Bury your head in the sand and try turn it round all you want, but you made yourself look rather daft there. They sell simply because they cannot buy otherwise. Everton fans will tell you the same thing. They have been successful in the transfer market yes, because they had a good manager, then replaced him with another good manager. That doesn't mean they are flush with cash. Fact is we have massively outspent them the past two years and are closing the gap on them pretty rapidly.
  2. are you completely stupid?! That shows they have made a net profit the last 5 years! Thanks for proving my point.
  3. Actually, Everton hardly have a pot to **** in, so there is a reasonable chance we could consistently outspend them - without having to sell our best players to do so, like them.
  4. Probably not, no. But why not give it a go? I don't see many people saying we will. What is your problem with the club at least trying? Do you want us to just aim for mid-table, and say that is the best we can ever hope for so don't even bother aiming higher? Let's be honest, if Cortese and co came out saying that you'd knock their lack of ambition.
  5. Pretty sure 4321 is an established tactic bear - otherwise known as the Christmas tree.
  6. All the huge clubs you forever go on about have massive histories, which really bares little relevance on the present day. Yes Porto are a big fish in a relatively small pond, and have past successes. But that played little part int their winning the CL in '04 when they were extremely unfancied. That win was very much a triumph for the underdog.
  7. I don't think anyone is saying its not good business. It's more a case of what it would mean. Our recent spending suggests we aren't reliant on player sales. So it is simply making the clubs we are aiming to compete with stronger, and us weaker. If we are truly set on the ambition of mixing with the big boys we need to keep hold regardless of the price.
  8. Why get worked up? Barry, bless him, has consistently shown us his judgement is truly awful. How did QPRs 'going for it' last season work for them? How did Wigans inevitable charge up the league leave us doomed to relegation? How has Norwichs super summer spending going? RVW is tearing the league apart isn't he? Keep going on about those few transfers that didn't work out. No other club ever makes signings that don't work out do they? It's just Cortese. Oh and Reed, that man that shouldn't be near a football club - he only worked for the FA and has been praised this season for his work at the club. Gaston clearly only left for money, coming to Saints (5th in the PL tipped for Europe by media, not just in uk) from Bologna (17th in a Serie A decreasing in standing by the year). No progress at all there. The list is nearly endless. You clearly haven't read the article, instead wanting to "discuss" (I'm not convinced you know what this means, stating the same few lines over and over is not discussing) the same things over and over, instead of discussing the article posted, which offers some really interesting insights into how the club is run. Interesting that the article notes Pochettino speaks perfect English to the players, most of us suspected this was the case - but makes a difference in the usual media presentation of him. It is fascinating what is happening at our beloved club, what certain people miss is that we are doing our best to maximise the potential of every player at the club, by being real innovators in all departments, with the aim of stealing a march on our higher spending competitors. It might not work, but it's damn exciting watching us at least give it a go. Lol at being happy is apparently a bad thing, why support the club? Why enjoy what is happening after the crap we endured? We should not get ideas above our station - and accept our place and hope for nothing more than mediocrity.
  9. Truth, truth! I'm a bit surprised, as I am the right age, and like plenty of whiny crap - but Lostprophets never did it for me.
  10. Nah, just still crap. I never actually liked them.
  11. Being a Tory will always turn the scots off you though, even if you were from Glasgow.
  12. I was just trying to add some balance. It would be much harder for Labour to win a majority should Scotland go solo, which I have said multiple times I don't want. Blair is far from a typical 'Labour' candidate in that he is about as left wing as Cameron.
  13. Ha Walcott also wasn't PL to PL either. Slipping Glasgow.
  14. I do agree with you & aintforever - it's a fair point but on the flip side, imagine being a tory in England for 13 years and basically being kept out by Scottish & Welsh Labour MPs. As I mentioned above, the West Lothian Question means Labour governed basically due to support in Scotland, whilst the Scottish MPs are enacted laws and policies that don't affect their constituencies. I have no problem with people like Cameron and his school buddies not being in govt, but there are two sides to every argument.
  15. £25m for 30/40 odd appearances? How many threads would you have started if Saints had done that mate? Also, Carroll? Hardly set the world on fire since leaving Newcastle has he? 60 odd appearances, 13 goals costing £50m - far from a 'success'. Christ the more I look at this post the more I laugh - imagine the uproar on here if we spent £30m on Berbatov for how much he played/contributed. Yes he was topscorer one season - but 8 of his 19(ish) goals came in two games!
  16. What is over-inflated about what I have said? He is a talented player - any neutral would say that. You were the one that took issue with that. There must also have been some scouts and people involved at the club that probably know a bit more about football than both of us combined that saw enough talent in him to be willing to part with c.£12m for him. I also said, isn't doesn't look like it's working out for him here and he hasn't delivered to his ability - which when you consider even off form he is still matching the contribution of other players suggests he has some talent. He was doing alright under Adkins, where the majority of his playing time/goals/assists came. The 'excuses' you don't give a flying f about are valid, he is a young man, and he came to a league faster and more physical than Italy. Even a much more experienced international player in Osvaldo has said it is hard to adapt straight away. He's also never really had a settled run in the team since he came here, which clearly doesn't help anyone. All I'm doing is balancing out the arguments, he gets some unfair stick. He isn't lazy, and he clearly isn't crap. He doesn't look suited to the PL, and it doesn't look like we will see the best of him. It's a shame, but we move on. There's no transfer that doesn't contain an element of risk and they don't always work out. This isn't exactly unique to us. Lol @ what has Puncheon got to do with anything - and yet bringing in Harry Hypotheticals.
  17. Very jealous. I only really stumbled across them start of last year, and they havn't been over here since. Everyone I know who has seen them live says they are fantastic, one I really really want to see!
  18. You asked on what, I gave you some reasons, and now you couldn't give a flying f. Nice. We should just stick to proper English players that run around a lot and contribute less. None of them Carlos Kickballs. BRING BACK PUNCHEON!!
  19. Stop putting fags in your face then lighting them. HTH.
  20. Can't really see players coming from Monaco being cheap - Lille neither. Havn't seen enough of them to state how they compare to Shaw, but nothing so far to suggest they are that much better. Luke Shaw is barely 18, we shouldn't be expecting him to play every minute of every game at his age - though yes, better cover would be nice.
  21. Yeah, that Uruguay national team is awful. I bet when he leaves he will go to a second tier team. Funny how the teams he is apparently linked with are teams like Inter (awful), Fiorentina (awful) and Galatasary (awful). Get that Jason Puncheon back from Palace!
  22. Go on, like who?
  23. Haha fair enough, I wondered if I'd missed your point. I agree though, don't really see Rhodes as a Lambert type player. As I said above, I always thought of him more as a poacher type. Think he is a very good player, and could potentially do it in the Prem, just not sure he is right for our system or style of play.
