I know they aren't the greatest band ever. But, I really love The Rifles. Bring back great memories of being 16/17. One of the first gigs I went to with my mates. Off to see them again tomorrow, so this is getting an airing in prep. Happy KRG

January 2014 Transfer news & rumours
KelvinsRightGlove replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
It' hard to tell, seeing as it's been around a year since we last saw him really. I'd agree though. He didn't look a poor keeper, just prone to the odd clanger. That could be attributed to age/inexperience - or a general statement of his qualities. Again, with how little we have seen of him it's hard to tell. -

In fairness, aside a few 'characters' (Jose, Holloway), that's true of most managers. -
That's not how we keep a lead though Bazza. We attempt (whether it works or not is another matter) to hold leads simply by keeping possession. It's pretty simple really, if we have the ball the opposition can't score - plus chasing the ball will (in theory) knacker them out. Wingers, like Puncheon, aren't necessarily great for this tactic. Particularly Puncheon, who runs, does a drag back, does another drag back, turns into an oppo player and loses the ball. Yes, he may gain some territory in doing so, but he loses the ball, which gives the oppo a chance to mount an attack.
-
Better than a signing, it gave a clearer path for JWP - with the level of improvement in his performances this season he is almost like a new signing. He is offering us much more than puncheon did last season. Really don't think Puncheon is that great in all honesty, flatters to deceive.

Is it that big a deal? He clearly has no problem getting across what he is trying to achieve to the players. Surely that's the most important thing? Unless you really want some 'Arry style car-window type interviews? -
On my way home from Arcade Fire at The Roindhouse, Just wow! By such a long distance that was the very best gig I have been to. Easily the best band on the planet right now, not even in a league comparable to anyone else.

Admitted I got that wrong whilst supporting Saints!

1) Prutton will play for England (lol) 2) Puncheon shouldn't play for the club again c.2010/11 (though mostly due to his p!ss poor attitude) -
I swear in an interview a while back, and he smiled and basically said he wouldn't do it? Or did I imagine this?

Should be nowhere near a football club...
-
True, but TV money and season tickets were also a fraction of what they are now. Yes, transfer fees have gone up, but so has revenue of football clubs - massively. For the record, I am not saying this means we are likely to win, or even go that close to winning the title. Just that it isn't as impossible as the difference in fees from then to now would suggest.

anyone noticed Swansea's come back? where'd that come from?
-
Odds must still be pretty good to be fair.

Spurs, City & Swansea all losing to teams not in Euro competitions today.

Can't believe we are wanting Utd to beat Arsenal to stay in touch with the top team. I know Alps will hate me saying this, but, considering how far we've come in such a short space of time it does make your head spin a bit, well mine at least. That was some finish by RVP, great header. We're gonna win the league

Beats & Le Tiss are probably out of reach for Rickie I would have thought, 23 more goals is doable, but may still be a push. If J-Rod can continue his progression, and perhaps become a little more clinical he could potentially be anywhere on that list, dependent on how long he stays of course.

Liverpool and Arsenal sniffing around Jay rod?
KelvinsRightGlove replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
Nope not really. I just have a memory, it's not really hard to remember things you say, seeing as you usually repeat them 9 million times. It's funny how the most outspoken have such a problem with those that remember what they say, isn't it? -
Pundits and media have only really started taking real attention the past 6-10 months. Prior to that, they just lumped him in with any other foreign owner/chairman (most probably thought he was both). Football media, and pundits are generally pretty conservative in their nature. to them, anything different or new = bad. Especially if that new approach comes from a foreigner, or particularly a foreigner with no background in football. Just because others were we wrong, doesn't make you any less wrong. I'm sure it won't be long until you are spectacularly wrong again, and then try to completely deny it, again.

Think those saying Arsenal have had no hard games yet are unfair. They have played (and beaten) Spurs & Liverpool, and are facing Utd today. Chelsea have also played both the Manchester clubs.

Errrrm, wasn't January 2013 10 months ago -
Funny how few threads there are slating Cortese's running of the club we see now, isn't it? I agree with the point of setting a style, having a recruitment team and then picking a manager to work with them. It is a forward thinking, long term approach that protects the club from a manager have a shocker. By this I mean, f you pick a a manager, that doesn't like the style of players at the club, you fall into the Sunderland scenario. Wholesale chopping and changing, millions wasted, manager sacked and starting from scratch again every 10 or so months. The days of wheeler-dealer 'Arry's are numbered, those that do follow that model run serious risks these days.
-
Eh? Sunderland aside, where he had a decent season before a bad run. Where else has he been a disaster? Agree he isn't the most forward thinking, and not the most exciting, but he is a solid premiership manager.
