Are we wasting time going for unrealistic transfer targets ?
max_saints replied to Saints boy in Leeds's topic in The Saints
if that's the case then why waste time playing in a league we're never going to win, let's just go back down to the championship and try to win that? in all seriousness though, whats the point of getting poorer players in, simply so they can take part in pre-season but do not actually perform during the season. we want the club to buy early, to spend wisely, to acquire quality. the players we buy have to be young, hungry and make an instant impact right from their debuts. we want, we want, we want! if some of us are so upset with the way our club conducts its transfers then go support swansea and worship Michu then! -
was this before or after they signed anelka? if we don't get damiao I wouldn't mind us going for ba, premier league experience and would cost lesser than damiao I would imagine

http://www.goal.com/en-sg/news/3875/transfer-zone/2013/07/05/4096152/i-will-not-be-forced-to-leave-lyon-insists-swansea-target apparently swansea does not meet his ambitions. anyway, if we're talking fantasy targets, gomez/villa/higuain. or a loan move for deulofeu. or swoop for out of favor demba ba now that lukaku's back.

Chelsea close to signing van ginkel for 8million! that has to be a value buy.
-
less than 2% chance mate, united want him and can't even get him.
-
cue 10 pages of speculation before the deals off because agent wants 2 million! ( hope I'm wrong, this is by far the biggest name we've been linked with this transfer window! )
-
meh... the white sleeves look so awkward and... weird? anyone feel the same?
-
why aren't the big clubs like arsenal swooping in for him @ 12million if he's really as good as most people (celtic fans) say he is?
-
anyone have the latest on the link with the Spanish striker Adrian? or have we moved on from him already?

http://espnfc.com/news/story?id=1472287&cc=4716 Irwin also predicted United will make a bid for Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton’s Luke Shaw, while suggesting winger Nani and Patrice Evra will leave Old Trafford this summer as new boss David Moyes prepares to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson. "Nani will go to Monaco and Patrice Evra may well return to the same club, from whom he joined United," Irwin added. "I’ve also heard a word that the new manager might have Luke Shaw at the top of his list. The teenage Southampton full-back is the latest in a long line of prodigies from that club’s excellent youth system."

don't think many of their fans would be too happy about this prank

End of Season Review: 14th Place - 41 points

http://espnfc.com/feature/_/id/1454703/premier-league-2012-13-club-club-review-11th-20th?cc=4716 SOUTHAMPTON Season in short: Overachieved. The Saints' season turned in January when the beatific Nigel Adkins was ruthlessly dumped as manager. The transition proved as inspired as it was unsentimental. Adkins had achieved back-to-back promotions. Though his buccaneering team were brave, their Premier League naïveté marked them as relegation candidates. Incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino fused a steely pressing game with the team's attack-minded philosophy, and his players pulled themselves out of the mire. Forward Jay Rodriguez was among those who benefited most from Pochettino's arrival. His inventive movement provided the perfect complement to the stealthily prolific "Super" Rickie Lambert's relative immobility. Young talents Jack Cork and Luke Shaw also thrived. The end of the campaign was soured by a breaking boardroom drama in which the club's controversial executive chairman Nicola Cortese threatened to resign. Southampton fans eager to think happier should savor Jason Puncheon's cheekiness as he marked a strike by commemorating his infamous televised toilet break against Everton -- surely the goal celebration of the season. Best Player: Morgan Schneiderlin. The 23-year-old Frenchman dazzled in midfield and is now coveted by Arsenal. Worst Player: Vegard Forren. Much was expected from the Norwegian international when he arrived in January, yet he mysteriously failed to play a single game. The future looks: Bright. Pochettino was hired with loftier goals in mind than merely avoiding relegation. With a talented young core, and time to inculcate his trademark brand of aggressive football, a sense of ambition next season would not be misplaced. http://espnfc.com/feature/_/id/1454703/premier-league-2012-13-club-club-review-11th-20th?cc=4716 -

No cup success, just the constant grind of PL safety or Win a major cup (eg the FA cup) but go down (ie what might possibly happen to Wigan) Of course I wouldn't dare chance another relegation especially seeing how recently relegated clubs have struggled to come right back up as soon as they would have liked. However, seeing Wigan celebrate their FA cup victory made feel a slight tinge of jealousy as we have not won a major cup in recent times, at least not in my lifetime (the paint trophy does not really count, does it) So it made me think about the above question and wonder what you guys think. p.s Ignore the scenario of both staying up AND winning a major cup as this is more of a question of which 'success' you prefer.

Wigan have 35 and arsenal is their second last game

safe by next tuesday you mean? wigan loss to arsenal would mean we're mathematically safe! (:

still neutral about the situation. not safe enough to feel confident yet not exactly free falling to feel worried. had the spurs game down as a loss so, nothing much has changed regarding how I feel about our survival. next week is important though, lose that and I'll fall straight into panic mode. not bothered about sunderlands game against stoke or wigan'a against Swansea, rather focus on getting the points ourselves than to depend on other teams failing...
