Mara and Sulemana need to discover motivation to succeed. Younger players who want to succeed demonstrate it, and people can see it. Both of the penalties demonstrate a lack of desire and that has been shown by these two players for most of their time at Saints. They may still come good, but there are no real signs of the necessary commitment to succeed in a sport where you get just over 10 years as a professional. They are currently wasting their 'talent' and writing themselves off with their lack of effort.

The majority of Saints fans don’t really get that stuck in, too reserved perhaps, too restrained in showing emotion because of upbringing, too middle class with all the repression that comes with it, thinking a football stadium is for quietly watching the game, being embarrassed by the thought of it all. Hopefully the return of an end with standing will at least see some noise return to the stadium and people feeling like them have a role to play in the match day experience. If the players didn’t want it then they wouldn’t gesture for fans to make more noise. But then how uncouth and clearly lacking in table manners. If you want silence, go and watch rugby or golf.

If an ex player and someone who has become a great ambassador for the club’s real values (not the corporate bollocks) getting some annoys you, imagine your frustration knowing how many freebies the directors and senior staff get for their families and friends.

How dare anyone try to create something different and potentially noisy 🤣 Life moves on, new things occur, things change. Fans used to clap both teams. Saints and Pompey fans would go to each other’s games when their team wasn’t at home. Everyone wore flat caps. People drank pints of brown. People used to stay to the end of matches unless their team had had an absolute shocker. Rattles were once a thing, now they aren’t. Jumpers for goalposts. New, old, borrowed, things just keep moving on in new directions.

Since the unbeaten run, the players have shown their true character. Technically good for the most part, apart from the ability to take chances but weak bottlers really.

The saddest thing for me is that he just doesn’t appear to be able to adapt. I’m all for people having a good crack at it and I think that Russball is hampered somewhat by the level of players we have but therein lies the problem; play to your strengths and get the best out of the personnel. This could also be a Sports Republic/leadership issue as we still have delusions of grandeur.
