It's just like 1991 all over again...

Great article. Cheers for the link mate! -
With us looking odds-on to get either Wanyama or Banega and it just being a question of time, this is a question that has been playing on my mind for weeks. Either way even if both those deals falter we WILL sign a top class CM before the window closes. So out of two of our top three players last season (Rickie being the other), who would YOU drop to accomodate this £10m+ signing, whoever it may be? Schneiderlin or Cork? Poll please mods cheers!
-
Got nowt to lose by throwing our name into the mixer. All players must end up somewhere. Statistically we have a 20% chance of signing Osvaldo, 20% chance of signing Damiao, 20% chance of signing Wanyama, and 20% chance of signing Banega. The other 20% chance is making no signings at all. Better than wasting £2-3m on 'certainties' like Will Buckley who we can bring here in a heartbeat if we wanted, and would do nothing more than bloat the squad more than it is already bloated. Really don't need to make any signings for the sake of making signings. Quality over quantity, for me.

BSS is 100% right. We get a lot of international students at uni and they find learning English VERY difficult. By the end of their first year can barely construct a few fluent sentences consecutively.
-
or just hunch?
-
itk?
-
Am I the only one who would seriously gladly let Rodriguez go and bring back Billy?
-
So will it be Wanyama-Schneiderlin, Cork-Schneiderlin, or Waynama-Cork?
-
Deadline Day. All three of the Wanyama, Banega, and Damiao threads will do a Ramirez and get to 150+ pages.
-
I'm tired of holding my breath. Are we getting this guy or not?
-
The likes of me came here and ruined the place. Prior to the appearance of the likes of myself and Bazza this place was like heaven for a Saints fan. Who needed paradise when you had Saints Web???
-
Damiao without a shadow of a doubt! We need goals, and lots of them. With only slightly better finishing we would of easily, and I mean EASILY, finished 8th last year. For me it is the only part of our game that needs MAJOR improvement. In every other department we are solid and do not necessarily need strengthening provided we keep our best players. GK, defence & midfield are all already top half material IMO.
-
Absolute bare minimum IMO. Would still be considered a bit of a disappointment even if we do finish eighth and go nowhere in either cup. Must overtake one of (or all three) of Everton, Liverpool and/or Spurs to really prove we are progressing and going places. Mind you if all the recent transfer rumours turn out to be rubbish and we make no new signings I'd bite your hand off for 17th.
-
Please tell me you're joking. You clearly didn't watch the game at Villa Park under Adkins. The bloke missed sitter after sitter. How anyone in their right mind would pay more than £10m for him is beyond me.
-
Such a shame IMO. World class defender and a cut above anything we've currently got. To think we could of got him for an extra £2m to that Lovren bloke. Looked odds on we would sign him just a few weeks ago. Also was really looking forward to singing this at SMS next season: (starting from 3:01)

Anyone else not exactly thrilled by Lovren?

There's a reason I started my post with "call me a bedwetter"... because in the years I've been reading these boards (and they have been many years) that's precisely what anybody with even the slightest amount of unfanciful realism gets called by all the rose spectacled half blind delusional "optimists" living in la la land that seem to make up the majority on SWF. After hoping the close season might of injected some perspective in those unreasonable idealists, I'm sad to have been proved wrong yet again. There's only one formula on here: give a different, fresh, perhaps not so optimistic opinion/view on things = get called a troll, mental, criticised and subjected to a shedload of abuse. On that note, what have I got to gain by replying other than subject myself to more insults? I see what you did there. Nice little backhanded "compliment". I used to always defend you against your many haters on here by saying Turks is actually a decent bloke, not really a troll, just taking the p*ss etc. but maybe I should stop and treat you with the same contempt that most other folks on here do... This. You are a legend on these boards Glasgow as I've told you before. I have only the utmost respect for you and can only hope others look at you as a model for how posters on a message board should react to opinions different to their own. Cheers for the solace mate, I'm glad someone like you exists around here. -
Call me a bedwetter all you like guys but this Lovren bloke does not fill me at all with confidence and/or joy. I've watched enough videos and read about him quite a bit over the past 3-4 hours (yes I'm bored!) and he looks average-good at best. Error-prone to say the least. Certainly no Astori who's in a different class IMO. Also looking like we totally overpaid for him. Something like £8m?? Not worth more than two Forrens surely! On the subject of Forren, wasn't he supposed to be first choice next season?? Now with Yoshida a shoo-in in the first XI the other CB position already had strong competition prior to Lovren and IMO we did not need to sign another... or at least not break the bank for a full international when a lower league player (or academy product) would of been more than good enough backup! Also, weren't we good enough defensively under MP towards the end of last season that we didn't need to improve substantially in defence? It was our GOALS FOR column that needed improving and that is where our funds should of been focused IMO. This £8m or whatever it was will almost certainly put a dent in our ability to purchase top quality where we need it the most (forward, winger). A shame, for me. Decent enough signing overall I guess and glad we showed we can compete with the big boys financially and in attracting players... but all things considered I'm left with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. Just can't help thinking we could of done so much better.

Sad if true. Way it should be is all forms of personal abuse are strictly forbidden. If things were run properly around here the likes of Garrett wouldn't live to see another day on this forum, him and quite a few others should be banned for life IMO for their sickening personal abuse. It's bad enough if it was through PM and was reported, but on the main board and out in public for all to see is simply unacceptable. Note personal abuse does not include things like 'troll', 'dune', etc. Sometimes I wish I was a mod.
-
Couldn't agree more! Literally started salivating when I saw that rumour.
-
Just what we need... another young, unproven, unheard of, overpriced Uruguayan from a p*ss poor league with lots of "talent" and bags of "potential". Judging from our early transfer activity, looks like another season of avoiding relegation is on the cards.

Ramirez, his first season, how good has he been?
110_Persaint replied to Barry Sanchez's topic in The Saints
In what is quickly becoming a Barry vs SWF thread, I am not looking to take sides nor endorse anyone's forum merits but I do have to say that messieurs Sanchez and Alpine are 100% right!! Ramirez has been p*ss poor this season and I for one couldn't care less to see him sold in the summer! Just take a moment before you start calling me 'dune' and laying into me by considering this hypothetical scenario: 1) He didn't cost £12m (say £5m)... 2) He isn't a full international... 3) Most importantly that YOUTUBE VIDEO that had our mouths watering last summer never existed... Just a promising young Uruguayan from SerieA Saints snapped up last summer, and he puts in those exact performances we've seen him put in all year. What would we all think then??? Yup, not even worth the £5m we supposedly paid. Time to take off our red and white tinted glasses and see things as they really are. Ramirez has been SH*TE all season except for two games (Villa, Newcastle) and all in all a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Why certain folks still feel the need to defend him when he doesn't look arsed himself is beyond me. Back to studying for me now so it's over and out! Oh and welcome back Bearsy! -
Rodriguez, how do we rate him after a year?
110_Persaint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
If £7m is about right, Falcao's recent £60m move to Monaco is the bargain of the century when you take into account goals to games ratios! Busy with final exams mate, one more to go! Hoping to get back to posting soon, though by the looks of it I haven't missed out on much... And why the f**k was Bearsy banned? -

110_Persaint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Just when I was about to give up on this thread you come along and save it. I commend you for your honesty and impartiality. £7m down the drain as far as I'm concerned. Wouldn't shed a tear to never see him in a Saints shirt ever again. -
I for one am on strike. Said I wasn't going to post again and I meant it. Others should join me. No more posts for me until BEARSY'S BACK! Others should stop this advitar rubbish and do what is right to show their consolidation - STOP POSTING! The board ought to learn a lesson in how to protect and keep its best members. We've been subjected to their ironfisted oppression for far too long and it is time to take action to show our support for a fellow poster. The mods and admins ought to be ashamed of themselves. This is no way to treat SWF legends. Bring back the Bear! Join me and show your support fellow posters! No more posting until the Bear is back! Over and out.

PL football is not the be all and end all mate. Clearly the current set up under Pochettino is not working in his favour. IMO since Adkins left his performances have been dwindling. Certainly not living up to all the hype. The lad's looking for a new challenge, a style of play more suited to his abilities, a new beginning. I wouldn't hold it against him at all. He is far, far, far, FAR more likely to get an England cap at Chelsea or wherever he ends up, and at such a young age to boot. Call it bench warming all you like but to say the boy's career will simply stall is b*llocks. He is good enough to be first choice anywhere IMO. More exposure, more money, more trophies etc. how can you blame him? err, 14th place in the league?? "no matter what position we're in" is a bit of a stretch, non? We're hardly in a great position at the moment with all the chaos surrounding those in charge and future plans...throw in the fact we finished the season with a whimper and as uninspiring as ever, I find it quite incredible someone as intelligent as yourself thinks selling Shaw means what I highlighted in the quote. AFAIC, £15m for a 17 year old? I'd bite your hand off.
