I get the feeling that what has been implied in the media is "The Deal"; In return for agreeing to cease hostilities and freeze things on the current front lines, Russia gets to keep Crimea and gains that small part of Donetsk it does not currently occupy. Ukraine gets "security guarantees", ( which will hopefully prove worthwhile this time around ), but cannot join NATO. I don't think Putin will have agreed to give up anything he currently controls. Marco Rubio has said that "both sides must make concessions, if only one side does then that is surrender". I suspect that Russia's 'concession' is to agree to the security guarantees - Would it really indicate 'surrender' if Russia were to agree to withdraw from some of the occupied territories ?
  2. So that's two of us who won't get through US immigration in the next 3 and a half years.
  3. Not sure about fruiting early, but our apple and plum trees have been laden, and the raspberries, blackcurrants, and peas have hardly stopped cropping. It's also the first year the apricot tree has fruited. The Passion flowers have been flowering now for about 2 months, with no sign of stopping.

With all the above experiences taken into account, the memory passed down to me was simply thst when my Grandfather got home from the far east it wa August 1946, and all anybody had to say was "Where have you been ?".
  5. Why are Newcastle playing in green ?
  6. Will Zelensky get the same red carpet welcome, greeted by Trump at the airport ? Or will Trump and Vance double-team him again, trying to humiliate him into accepting the unacceptable ?
  7. Is there even a proposal for a ceasefire, let alone something tangible ? Are the threatened sanctions any nearer to being implemented ? Has Putin gained publicity whilst Donnie the Deal fails to deliver ? Are Ukrainian children any safer this morning ?
  8. Well, that seems to have been a waste of time and effort.
  9. I hope you are all following the Government's advice to delete old emails and photos to save water.

Today is the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2, the announcement of Japan's surrender by the Emperor. The men of the "forgotten" 14th Army, and the suffering of the tens of thousands of prisoners taken by the Japanese, always seem to be over shadowed by VE day. Remember them along with all the service men and women of the other theatres of that war around the globe.
  11. The White House has petitioned the Supreme Court to request a ruling that racial profiling based on skin colour, having an hispanic name, accent, or speaking Spanish, is sufficient to permit immigration officers to challenge and detain people regardless of their Constitutional rights. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/trump-asks-supreme-court-bless-110004277.html
  12. Ladies and gentlemen, The Leader of the Free World, in his own words; And people were concerned about Biden's mental accuity. I know, it's cruel to mock the afflicted.

  14. Donnie calls in the National Guard to boost law and order in DC, and to help protect the seat of Government - having pardoned almost all of the January 6th insurrectionists. Where is Alanis ?
  15. Why is Socialism bad ? Do you even know what the term means ? Should the NHS be privatised ? Should Social Care ? Should mainstream education continue to be publicly funded ? Would publicly owned water companies do a worse job than the privatised ones, which still require public funding to keep them going ? Similarly the rail network ? Should workers have some protections against exploitation ? Compare the above examples to the car crashes that are their equivalents in the capitalist paradise that is the United Staes of America.

  20. Is there a Tommy Robinson or Katie Hopkins bot ?
  21. The problem with classifying somebody as a 'genuine' asylum seeker is the lack of 'safe and legal' routes, forcing people who may be 'genuine' to seek an alternative route into the UK because they have no access to a legal path.
  22. There should be an international arrangement that stops the cross channel boats, if only on humaintarian grounds, linked to a better arrangement of "safe and legal" routes for asylum seekers, thereby removing some of the incentive for people to try the boats. All said and done, the southern European countries have a far more difficult situation to deal with. There will always be people attempting to get around immigration controls, we just need to reduce the numbers so that things are manageable and the statistics are less prone to malevolent manipulation and misinterpretation.
