  1. "The US Supreme Court has ordered the Trump administration to pause the deportation of a group of accused Venezuelan gang members. A civil liberties group is suing the administration over planned deportations of Venezuelans detained in north Texas under an 18th-century wartime law. On Saturday, the Supreme Court ordered the government to "not remove any member of the putative class of detainees from the United States until further order of this Court"." "The Supreme Court initially ruled on 8 April that Trump could use the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged gang members, but deportees must be given a chance to challenge their removal. "The notice must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the proper venue before such removal occurs," the justices wrote in their decision earlier this month. The lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that resulted in Saturday's order said the Venezuelan men detained in north Texas had been given notices in English, despite speaking only Spanish, that they would be deported imminently, and had not been told they had a right to contest the designation in a federal court." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czd3rdjn81lo
  2. It's all about unfair restrictions and trade imbalance, honest guv; ;https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/trump-jd-vance-trade-deal-free-speech-b2733806.html "Sir Keir Starmer must embrace Donald Trump’s agenda by repealing hate speech laws in order to get a trade deal over the line, a Washington source has told The Independent. The warning came after the US vice-president suggested a UK-US agreement may be close, with the White House “working very hard” on it. He told UnHerd: “I think there’s a good chance that, yes, we’ll come to a great agreement that’s in the best interest of both countries.” But a senior Washington figure, who has provided advice for the administration, claimed he is “obsessed by the fall of Western civilisation” – including his view that free speech is being eroded in Britain – and that he will demand the Labour government rolls back laws against hateful comments, including abuse targeting LGBT+ groups or other minorities, as a condition of any deal. The Independent was told: “The vice-president expressing optimism [on a trade deal] is a way of putting further pressure on the UK over free speech. If a deal does not go through, it makes Labour look bad.”"

    Russia

"The US will abandon trying to broker a Russia-Ukraine peace deal within days unless there are clear signs a truce can be reached, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned. Rubio said the US wanted to help end the war but was willing to move on if there were no immediate signs of progress. "We're not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end," Rubio said, adding that the US had "other priorities to focus on"." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20x5xn1g92 Putin has no desire for peace, and Trump had no appetite for trying to push him into it. So much for fixing it in one day, or within the first 100 days in office.
  4. Would be nice to get another record and be a part of history though. Something to make the season memorable, alongside the lowest points total and earliest relegation.

    Israel

"At least 37 people have been killed in a series of Israeli strikes, most in areas where displaced civilians have set up tents, Gaza's Hamas-run civil defence agency says." "Witnesses in al-Mawasi told the BBC that tents were engulfed in flames following a "powerful" explosion, causing the deaths of dozens of Palestinians including children. One man said he woke to "screaming and panic" and watched as "the flames spread rapidly from one tent to another". Israel has previously told Palestinians to evacuate from other parts of Gaza to al-Mawasi." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yrl891j23o
  6. Yesterday the United Nations voted on a resolution calling for closer co-operation between the UN and the Council of Europe. Because the resolution included mention of Russia as the aggressor in Ukraine, the United States voted against the resolution. The other countries that voted against were ; Belarus,, North Korea, Eritrea, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger, Russia, and Sudan. Be ye known by the company you keep.

  9. "Scientists have found new but tentative evidence that a faraway world orbiting another star may be home to life." It is a big red flag saying "Make America Go Away".

  11. Or as JK Rowling put it ; "...cosplaying a misogynistic male fantasy of what a woman is". India Willoughby responded with "I am more of a woman than JK Rowling will ever be", which is a biological impossibility. However, having fathered a son, India is certainly more of a man.
  12. What sort of dump is your house when the kitchen cost only 75 cents ?
  13. The only people who should be allowed to use "they" as their personal pronoun are schizophrenics.
  14. Fuckwits walking on country lanes who don't know which side of the road to walk on when there is no pavement.
  15. Nothing for dogs and cats compares to vet bills for ponies.
  16. Yes, for the Newfoundland because the potential bills are so much bigger than for the Beddy/Whippet cross or Deerhound/Greyhound cross. Our experience is that for the smaller dogs and the cats, the lifetime bills will work out less than the accumulated insurance payments across the same period.
  17. SOGgy is right though. We keep getting "reminders" that one or other of our dogs is due it's next checkup or test, or when we do take them for treatment there is always the optional ( though recommended ) shopping list of added extras being given the hard sell.
  18. The President of El Salvador, self proclaimed "coolest dictator in the World", says he has no intention of returning the wrongfully deported man back to the States, and the White House has no intention to try and retrieve him - in direct opposition to the SC's judgement.
  19. It's what Putin told him.
  20. "When you start a war you have to know that you can win the war. You don't start a war against somebody 20 times your side and then hope that people give you some missiles." "President Zelenskyy and Crooked Joe Biden did an absolutely horrible job in allowing this travesty to begin." Guess who said this today.
