Currently, as far as I can work out there are 3 Legal options to force a GE; 1) A Vote of Confidence in the Government - not going to happen as Tory turkeys won't vote for Christmas. 2) A 2/3rds majority of the H of C vote for it under Parliamentary rules - again turkeys and Christmas. 3) The King decides to dissolve Parliament in the national interest. Technically possible, but almost certain to bring down the Monarchy.

If you want to consider a 'broken' country, look to Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan, etc. Things in the UK may be sub-optimal but they could be very much worse.

From Ukrainian Pravda; Ukrainian journalists have recognised their car and equipment among the loot that Russian propagandists tried to take out of occupied Kherson. "Well, for the sake of news, hidden GPS trackers were installed on the company's moving property (equipment, vehicles). The strike [launched by Ukrainian forces against a convoy of Russian occupiers at a pontoon crossing under the Antonivka Bridge - ed.] was highly accurate."

With FPTP you get the continuing BS from whichever side wins a GE, "the People gave us a mandate". When was the last UK Government that won a majority of the votes cast, let alone a majority of the Electorate ? 1935. With all subsequent elections more voted for somebody else than for the Party that gained power. The current shower got a big majority with 43.6% of the vote, Blair's landslide 179 seat majority in 1997 got less, 43.2%. There is an extreme example mathematical exercise where you can work out that a party can win 49% of the votes cast yet end up with zero seats in the Commons.

It is a sorry state of affairs when the Parliamentary Conservative party don't trust the party's lay membership in a leadership vote. Don't forget that Truss was in third place behind Sunak and Mordaunt in the MP ballots until the fifth round, when Badenoch's supporters had to recast their votes after her elimation in round 4, and Hunt, currently appearing to be the de facto seat of power in the Cabinet, was eliminated in round 1.
