Plenty have died due to interpretations of the Bible. Are the Israelis not simply following 'an eye for an eye' ?
-
Not as obvious to some as you might think.

Israel launch air strikes against the Syrian army, killing 8 Syrian soldiers. They have already bombed Syrian airports trying to put the runways out of commission, reportedly to prevent arms shipments from Iran.

If you believe that aggression and genocide should be rewarded and that Putin should be allowed to retain the occupied territories. All that achieves is a temporarily frozen conflict before Russia flexes it's expansioinst muscle again.

I love the way some of them come out and blame the Democrats for not supporting a candidate that the Republicans cannot agree on.

Declaring a "safe" zone, advising people to move there, then carelessly bombing them is pretty indiscriminate - unless it was deliberate.

The Hague Convention of 1907 states; "Article 25: The attack or bombardment, by whatever means, of towns, villages, dwellings, or buildings which are undefended is prohibited. Article 26: The officer in command of an attacking force must, before commencing a bombardment, except in cases of assault, do all in his power to warn the authorities. Article 27: In sieges and bombardments all necessary steps must be taken to spare, as far as possible, buildings dedicated to religion, art, science, or charitable purposes, historic monuments, hospitals, and places where the sick and wounded are collected, provided they are not being used at the time for military purposes. It is the duty of the besieged to indicate the presence of such buildings or places by distinctive and visible signs, which shall be notified to the enemy beforehand"

They are bombing the south of the Gaza Strip.

I would be wary of drinking his tea.

Israel's actions past and present are a causative factor in the attitude and response of Palestinian activists. Hamas feed from this and are prompted to barbarity by the influence of others, such as Iran. Some sort of military action was bound to happen sooner or later - it is the unexpectedly inhuman barbarity of Hamas' attack that has caught everyone off guard and ramped up the shock level.

35 UN workers killed in Gaza so far.

Nah, he's going to cook downstairs.

It is a war, both sides hate each other and I would not trust the Israeli military to play strictly by the rules by verifying their targets are 100% legitimate. But then again Hamas don't give a shit about such niceties, so whether by design or accident, such incidents are bound to occur, and in the confines of Gaza collateral casualties are inevitable. It is a shit show of 75 years making, and shows what a corrupting influence religion can be.

This becomes a circular argument going back the the Balfour Declaration and the establishment of the state of Israel.

Lots and yes. To deliberately target a civilian population, or to fail to minimise the impact of a military action on such a population, is a war crime. However, hindsight and revisionism are wonderful tools. What exactly was your point ?

Tellng the civilans in the north of Gaza to evacuate to the safety of the south, then bombing the south. On the subject of WW2, the allied strategic bombing campaign was arguably a failure. "Bomber" Harris rose through the ranks of the RAF in the '30s when the Big Idea was that "the bomber would always get through", and after a couple of pastings the enemy civilian population would cave in. It didn't happen in the Blitz, and it certainly didn't happen in Germany. Harris drew up a list of every German population centre over a certain size and systematically flattened them. When he got to the end of his list he went back to the start and began the process again. Even Churchill ended up casting doubt on the plan. For quite a while German military productivity actually increased as the level of bombing rose. Why was Dresden bombed ? It was 1945 and the war was almost over - it was done to appease the Russians. As with the earlier fire bombing of Hamburg, they knew full well that tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of civilians would die, especially as the city was full of refugees fleeing the Red Army. Just about the only time terror bombing has worked is the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, ( which was the backup target, the primary target, Kokura, was shrouded in cloud and smoke and the bombardier on Bock's Car could not get an accurate sighting, so after 3 abortive bomb runs they diverted to Nagasaki ). The Emperor of Japan was advised that surrender was the only option, but some in the military tried to carry out a coup and continue the war.
