The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
badgerx16 replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
In a political campaign it is easier and more effective to use slogans rather than presenting facts, which is why Trump got so much traction out of "MAGA". In 'debating' the issues during the referendum VL simply deployed the "Project Fear" meme to counter Remain 'facts'. -
Many estimates put the shortage of HGV drivers in the UK at around 90k, with about 20k EU drivers no longer working in the UK. It seems to depend on which side of the referendum you agreed with: Leavers may well point to a 'global' shortage, as per the Daily Express, (https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1485488/brexit-news-hgv-driver-shortage-covid-uk-eu-latest-facts4eu-report); Remainers will point to stories such as this - https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/brexit-to-blame-as-lorry-driver-shortages-hit-100000-says-yorkshire-logistics-boss-3359867.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/germany-braces-energy-supplier-casualties-2021-09-21/ "FRANKFURT, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Some German power suppliers could go insolvent due to soaring wholesale prices that are hitting consumers worldwide and have squeezed out companies in Britain, energy experts said on Tuesday."

Do the Russians pipe gas to the US ?

The vast majority of Brexiteers had 1 primary reason for voting that way - to leave the EU. The peripheral details were secondary to that, so they view the outcome as having delivered what they voted for. There may well be some who subsequently have come to regret their vote, but reversing the referendum is not an option, so we all have to suck it up and get on with what we are presented with. There may well be some personal satisfaction at pointing out the negative outcomes, but schadenfreude pales when you are one of those affected by it.

Quite possibly, but then I am a Remainer/Loser/Traitor, so what do I know.

How frustrating. Let Lanky get away too quickly with Alex Davies and left us just a hair's breadth short. Oh well, I'll settle for the Wurzels preventing a Warwickshire win so that Lancashire get the title.
-
Alternatively, the Wurzels draw with Warwickshire and Lanky win. 😉
-
The Wurzels have done us a favour now it is up to Abbas, Barker, and co. 10 wickets and we are champions.
-
Not only a brexiteer, he is a 'Young Earth creationist" who thinks the Earth is no more than 4000 years old. How the fuck do these idiots get elected ?
-
Brexit can't be newsworthy any more, the BBC have removed it as a sub-menu on the strip at the top of their News home webpage and replaced it with "climate".

You don't know who the Government owe favours to, and therefore who will eventually benefit from said policies.

No effing chance. I'd rather follow Weston's suggestion of moving across to live among the Paddies. ( To put it in terms you would understand ).

Profits before principles, shareholder dividends above all else.

I'm not sure Boris will lead the Tories into the next election. The damage is done.
-
Unfortunately not - family commitments.

I want to live in the UK and in the EU. Where do I 'fuck off' to ?

Tony "Der Panzerwagon" Martin wins his 5th World Champions jersey in his last race before retiring.

Opening with Mason Crane, what an inspired decision. Hants 1:2, effectively 3:2.

Having finished fixing the crashed bike yesterday I took it out today for a spin today, including the last leg along the sea wall. The bike didn't seem to have any psycological issues passing the point where we had our "off", so all well and good. As for me, I still have some bruising on my shoulder, my back is still stiff, and I have not recovered any memory of the crash. Probably just as well.
-
Shame Hants couldn't finish them off from 47:7. Still, we have spent the whole season doing things the hard way. Would losing the title by half a point be a successful season or a failure ?
-
And where exactly will you be as these rioters "burn the place down" ?

Obviously hasn't read the OP of this thread. Perhaps BoJo should have taken Guided Missile to explain things.

Another stellar batting performance. Hopefully the bowlers can follow up their good startr and keep the Lancashire score down tomorrow. Looking at the other scores, in Div 2 the Essex v Northants game had 25 wickets on day 1.
