"What have the Romans ever done for us ?"

You have that the wrong way round; she does not have the job because she is a lesbian, GM resents her having the job because she is a lesbian. ( Though the fact she is female is probably enough for him ).

I watched a fascinating program on TV last night that investigated the intelligence of slime moulds.

I have had extremely limited experience of the Met and how it operates, in fact I don't think I have ever had contact or conversation with any of their officers, so I don't think I am in a position to comment. I could comment on the Lancashire or Greater Manchester forces if you like - I do have slightly more exposure to them. However, as per my above comment, I suspect that the people who keep CD in her position probably think she is doing a good enough job for now. If you want a possibly critical comment about the Met, try to find somebody who lives within their remit. ( Note, this does not include GM, who doesn't like CD because she is (a) female, and (b) a lesbian ). EDIT: Actually I forgot, I did once have some contact with the Met. Because of my job I was asked to provide some techinal network tracing information to the Counter Terrorism branch to help them track down the source of a bomb threat that was sent by email to the White House on Sept 12th 2001.

Who negotiated in Doha and agreed the treaty with the Taliban ; Trump, ( or his representatives ), or the generals ?
-
"Top US defence officials have said the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan can be traced back to a deal between the group and the Trump administration. The so-called Doha agreement was signed in February 2020 and set a date for the US to withdraw its troops. Gen Frank McKenzie said the deal had a "really pernicious effect" on the Afghan government and military. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin agreed, saying the agreement had helped the Taliban get "stronger"." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-58738953

So Brexit isn't to blame, but the 'hard Brexit' trade deal has severely reduced the UK's options for recovery because we have opted out of all the mutual support mechanisms.

Because the people who decide her professional status are smart enough to not listen to reactionary idiots such as you.

For you to be calling other people stupid and gullible is highly ironic. ( In a non-Morissette way ).

They do tests and trials in the UK as well, for exactly the same reasons; firstly to verify that the modified crop is viable and consistant in delivering the desired outcome. Secondly to ensure that the modified crop cannot interact and cross fertilise with naturally occurring species. Such trials and tets can take many years. What the UK Government seems to be doing is loosening the EU constraints, which are the most restrictive of any agricultural regulations in the World. Your point is ....?

And when you come out with comments such as this, it shows Whelk has a point. -

Perhaps that comment was aimed at you because you had gone all 'Daily Express' and posted that Angela Raynor had "labelled the majority of the electorate as “Scum” along with the usual tiresome Labour insults like “racist” “mysoginist” “homophobic” etc etc " when in fact what she said was, in describing the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, "We cannot get any worse than a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, absolute vile… banana republic, vile, nasty, Etonian… piece of scum,”. As there are plenty of examples of BoJo spouting vicious bile and then refusing point blank to apologise, she has a point. -

Gene Editing is not the same as Genetic Manipulation. The latter involves splicing genetic material from 2 differing species together, perhaps a genetic sequence for the production of a specific oil is added to a plant that does not naturally produce that oil. Editing is a technique where a genetic 'weakness' is corrected - for instance to make a plant resistant to drought or higher temperatures. ( Also, remember that spontaneous mutation is quite a normal event in nature ). Almost all foodstuffs, vegetables, fruit, and meat, come from sources that have been 'genetically modified' by selective breeding and cross-fertilisation. Practically none of our food comes from "pure" natural species - fish is probably the largest foodstuff that is genuinely ''natural' For those of you that think that a post Brexit Britain should look more towards the US, this technique is already approved for some crops in the US and Canada.

It may be shit but at least he HAS a brain, you just have a void space between your ears that acts like an echo chamber for whichever trite news headline you have encountered that day.

I don't mind admitting that the same warped system that gave Bliar a massive majority with little more than 30% of the electorate and 43% of the vote also gifted BoJo his majority, but your claim about the "majority of the electorate" was just plain wrong - no spin required, and not an 'old chestnut'. Governments in the UK are elected with a majority of seats at Westminster yet with little over 40% of the votes cast, and with the positive affirmation of less than a third of the total electorate. It works both ways, and the 2 major parties have no interest in changing it, but true democracy it aint. -
History suggests that the Duke of Wellington could not have fought the Battle of Waterloo without the aid of the Dutch army of the Prince of Orange, and that the Dutch Staadtholder William "saved" the British crown from Catholic usurpation when he became King William III.

The majority of the votes cast at the GE did not go to the Tories, let alone their having the support of the "majority of the electorate". And she was right in calling out the mysogonistic, islamophobic, and homophobic rants of Boris. -
Hey, i just like destroying GM's delusions. I'm not saying the Dems don't do it - from my point of view the US Political setup is deeply corrupt all round, and as a definition of Democracy falls far short of even the UK version.
