It does throw into question the competence and/or motivation of the anti-doping authorities. A pro cycling squad has at least 14 riders on it's roster, each of whom undertakes a mandatory minimum number of out-of-competition drug tests, as well as the tests carried in competition; whether as stage or race winners / podium places, or just as random selections. Across Armstrong's 7 successful seasons, how many of his colleagues failed a test ? ( Very rough maths: 14 riders * 7 seasons * 36 tests ( probably underestimated ) on average per year ). On top of that, squad members, whether riders or 'back room' staff come and go, so how many people were 'in' on the scam, and why did they keep shtum, even after leaving the team ? As for the USADA document - whilst it does appear damning, it currently lies untested and unquestioned in a public court - there has been no cross examination of the 'witnesses', ( all of whom seem to have plea-bargained their own cases and given statements in exchange for leniency ), and no independent verification of any drug test results.

If this forum were a democracy; on the US model we would have the choice between a centre-right candidate and an ultra right-wing one, ( any centre-left option being dismissed as a 'commie' ), and the mod with the largest election budget would win on the back of a massive negative advertising campaign. On the UK model, the candidates would focus on making promises they have no intention of keeping to the 20% of 'swing' posters on marginal threads that will get them 'first past the post' with 45% of the vote.

I would think that this has very little to do with Islam, and an awful lot to do with ancient tribal customs and the fact that she has openly stood up to and provoked the Taliban. As with all religions, Islam is open to a wide range of interpretations, and generates it's own brand of nutters - you certainly wouldn't get this sort of activity in Turkey or Bosnia for instance.

Alps, I'm sure you're a very nice bloke, but you display a marked 'glass half empty' personality on this forum. January probably won't be the start of an 'amazing' transformation, but what we actually require at that time will depend on where we are and how the squad has settled ( hopefully ) over the next 3 months. At the start of the season I think many people had unduly optimistic ambitions, especially once the fixture list was published. We currently find ourselves 1 place above the relegation slots, and if at the end of the year that's where we finish I believe it will have been a good season, though I hope we will be higher up the table. In January we will need to swap out a couple more of our NPC standard players, and replace them with something better, but we won't be the only team chasing them, so we need to be firm in our resolve in nailing down our targets ( and hopefully they won't get poached next time by Man Utd ). As for actually identifying them, I'm not sure we on here would get it right if we listed the names - how many of us would have named Ramirez or Yoshida as a viable target back in June ? But I am sure that NA hs told NC who he would prefer, and NC is clear as to how much he is willing to spend.

It's amazing how many people have got crystal balls and KNOW, after the final whistle, that in any particular game a specific decision by the manager 'cost' us. NA had his reasons for the decisions he made, he's the manager and it's his call.
