Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
badgerx16 replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
Be careful where you post those initials round here ! TBH certainly does not have 'decent potential' ! -
Why was Michael Winner going about with Phil the Greek ?
-
But what is the general inference in the mass media when a manager gets the 'backing of the Board' ? The biggest risk is that next season, when we have established our credentials in the top flight, another club starts eyeing NA.

The best ( English ) man for the job.

What did Swansea and Norwich do ? http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Swansea_City/FA_Premier_League_2011-2012/Players/Squad_Changes/ http://www.football-lineups.com/team/Norwich_City/FA_Premier_League_2011-2012/Players/Squad_Changes/ Unfortunately 'surgery' will be necessary - I have concerns about our pace, both defending and in attack. Along with the obvious suspects, Holmes, Forte, Forecast ( - please God ! ), etc, I personally would not be surprised to see Hammond leave.
-
We will be mathematically safe with 2 games to play, and finish lower mid table - no higher than 12th, no lower than 14th.

There is always the obvious : [video=youtube;_s1-1kXekRg]

All of us on here did more than four-past.

SISU OUT ! We are Southampton.... We're PREMIER LEAGUE !!!!
-
Is it too early to start the party ?
-
The release of tension at full time will be like an atom bomb going off.

And, today I am wearing........my black Friends Provident sweatshirt, which later this afternoon will be proudly worn out and about in Blackpool.

Is Anyone Else Not Bothered If We Don't Go Up?
badgerx16 replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
I will be 'bothered'. I will be disappointed. I may even, for a while be gutted. I will get a sh!tload of stick at work, and I would not be confident of the playoffs. But by the end of July I would be looking forward to the new season. ( However, in the real world, by 15:00 on Saturday I will be proudly celebrating promotion ). -
Is Rauf really dead, or is he on holiday in G'mo ?

Don't forget, as a League 1 club they are bound by FFP : Financial Fair Play in League 1 and League 2: - League 1 and League 2, clubs have chosen to implement the Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP) first used in League 2 in 2004/05, although it will operate at different thresholds in each division. - The SCMP broadly limits spending on total player wages to a proportion of each club's turnover, with clubs providing budgetary information to The League at the beginning of the season that is updated as the campaign progresses. - Any club that is deemed to have breached the permitted spending threshold will be subject to a transfer embargo. Wherever possible, The League will seek to tackle the issue 'at source' by refusing player registrations that take clubs beyond the threshold. - At the beginning of the current season, League 2 clubs reduced the permitted spending threshold to 55% from 60% and this figure will continue to be operated next season. - League 1 clubs are currently operating a 'pilot' of the SCMP with clubs complying with a 75% threshold but with no sanctions being applicable this season. This threshold will reduce to 65% in 2012/13 and 60% in 2013/14 with sanctions (transfer embargoes) being applicable in both seasons.

From the Football League rules: 40.6.2 'Transfer Window' shall mean either: (a) the period commencing at midnight on the last day of the immediately preceding Season and ending at midnight on the 31 August next following; or (b) the period commencing at midnight on the 31 December and ending at midnight on the 31 January next following, PROVIDED ALWAYS that the Board shall have the discretion to amend the time and/or date upon which each of the above periods shall be deemed to end after consultation with The Premier League and Football Association in so far as is necessary to ensure that the Transfer Windows for both The League and The Premier League are the same. And the definition of 'season' : 'Season' means the period of the year commencing on the date of the first League Match and, for each Club, ending immediately after the completion of the Club's final fixture of the League Competition or, if the Club is participating in the Play-Offs, the final Play-Off match for that Club.

Global warming really is happening... (well, duh!)
badgerx16 replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Lounge
Because, generally, it's the "I'm all right Jack" syndrome - why should I be concerned about projections of disaster 60 years hence, when I'll no longer be around. This is often coupled with "Humans are adaptable, we'll adjust to the new environment". Out of curiosity, has anybody any links to a breakdown by age group on what proportion of the population accept MMGW as a reality ? Without any substantiation, I suspect that the under 30's are more likely to think it is a reality. -

Many take the view that the reverse is true - the loss of the ice will reduce the albedo effect, and therefore less of the sun's ray's would be reflected away from the earth's surface. Also, as the permafrost thaws and the Arctic Sea warms, stored methane could be released, adding to the greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere. So much may be currently unproven, but do you know for certain that the evidence supporting your position is infallible ? -

Maybe from Alpine's perspective he sees Global Warming as a good thing - he lives in the hills ( I presume from his moniker ), when they inherit the family dwelling his grandkids could be living on a beach. -
COPPER WIRE After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, French scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 200 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 150 years ago. Not to be outdone by the French: in the weeks that followed, American archaeologists dug to a depth of 20 feet before finding traces of copper wire. Shortly afterwards, they published an article in the New York Times saying : "American archaeologists, having found traces of 250-year-old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network 50 years earlier than the French." A few weeks later, ‘The British Archaeological Society of Northern England’ reported the following: "After digging down to a depth of 33 feet in the Skipton area of North Yorkshire in 2011, Charlie Hardcastle, a self-taught amateur archaeologist, reported that he had found absolutely f*ck all. Charlie has therefore concluded that 250 years ago, Britain had already gone wireless." Just makes you bloody proud to be British, don't it?
