I think J-Rod should have been the replacement for SRL, Mayuka for Lallana ( IF, and only if, it was truly necessary - but in that I have to trust NA ), and probably then wait 5 minutes before Lee replaced Puncheon. Guly shouldn't be brought on to play the 'defend from the front' role, he's not that sort of player. But at the time he made the decisions, Nigel beleived that these were the right moves, and it is only with hindsight that we can find cause to question his motives.

That the players he took off were knackered and the introduction of fresh legs would enable us to chase more effectively and counter attack more quickly. Of the 3 I would probably only question the replacement of Lallana, and would not have brought on Guly.

We are stuck with him until January, but hopefully no nearer the pitch than the subs bench once Yoshi is available. In the window move him on and bring in a quality replacement.

It's easy with hindsight to criticise the substitutions, but if J-Rod had scored we'd all be lauding Nigel. We lost becaue one of our centre backs got tired and sliced a clearance out for a corner, from which he failed to adequately mark the best striker in Europe. We have now held the lead against the 2 best teams in the league - we can compete and we should take confidence into the games to come, plus we have new players to come in and justify their price tags and reputations.

Your new international who has played in Europe, and your £7M man signed at the start of the summer. They should be up to scratch.
