Wow new season is looking really exciting. Its a shame we had a few want away players, but they really weren't worth the wages they are being offered elsewhere. So to recap; We have replaced our ageing hero with a similar style of striker in the form of top scorer from the Eredivisie. We have bought the top chance creator in the world (according to statistics). Hopefully he can shoot with power too? (hope you are working on that Adam, Liverpool crowd can get tetchy) We appointed an internationally recognised manager, who has been brazen enough to target another top 10 finish for little old saints maybe even a stab at getting into Europe. We have made near 100 million for the sale of 3 players, including aforementioned ageing striker plus a one season kid for a record fee. We are currently being linked for 4 or 5 exciting players and for once we have the money, the manager and the prestige of an 8th placed finish to get them over the line. We got our stripes back, not a big deal for me but know thousands of our fans feel differently. Our academy reputation continues to grow despite the odds. We have been told that all the pre-season debutants are looking strong enough to fill some squad positions to give us depth we were missing. We may well already have a left back as good as Shaw ready in the wings if this ITK are to be believed. Can there be anyone in the UK who would not name Southampton FC as being the best academy in the country at this point? Every media outlet in the country has been talking about us, every club wants our players, and is envious of our training and development ability with both players young and more experienced. Soon we may have a point when we sing… and it's all Southampton… N.B: Of course you could always just look at all the negative side of things, extrapolate disasters and post doom predictions and demand the firing of members of club management. Am I trying to make a point in this thread? In a way by asking the question in the title yes, I genuinely believe that there have been some very good things happening so far as well as some very worrying things but there is no reason this window cannot be good based on the facts of what has actually happened so far. There is far more speculation involved in claiming we are doomed, relegated and have got rid of 9 players etc than in my post. Will this be the best window, in my opinion no, but it still has the potential to be bloody good or bloody awful so let's not get carried away with superlatives one way or another.

Listen to yourself. We need to make two signings for every one we lost? What on earth makes this rule of transfers you have invented a fact. What the hell is wrong with standing still, that would be 8th again? You have no idea what the dressing room mood is like, for all you know Lallana and Lovren are part of an outgoing clique, they certainly seem like idiots now we hear from them. The chances of success? define success for us please, this word gets banded about. I would say making near on 100 million off of 4 players and appointing an internationally renowned manager who has drawn the top scorer from the eredvisie and the statistically top chance creator in the world is a sign of success. How is this window really the disaster everyone claims it is?

Pelle and Tadic out. How dare they create such an awful internal atmosphere, the press is awash with the **** they have been stirring. Its clear that Lallana and lambert left because of this horrible pair treating them badly in the dressing room. This thread amongst many others at the moment is Golden mong.

haha spot on

The majority of people on this thread are absolute morons, can't you see what this kind of clamour does. You don't love the Saints, you certainly don't 'support' them. The window isn't over, we have made a fortune on players who wanted to leave. All you are doing is trying to cause more drama because you are like spoilt children who have no control and want it now now now-Everything wrong with modern society. Les Reed has done a lot for us in the last 5 years, he at the moment is our best hope of getting transfers over line and keeping together whats left of team, a team he was involved in identifying and building. You think if he goes we will get someone better in? At the moment he may be the only one with an ear to money man Gareth Rogers and Kat. Take him away and you really think this situation will improve?
-
They should be without the amount we are making from sales.
-
I wonder if the amount of money we are making can positively effect our wage cap with regard to FFP. Anyone know?
-
Based on his performance in this game i'm fairly sure he can't cut it in the prem, what a waste of money. Hang the board.
-
Lambert scored a cracker of a free kick against us, but Messi levelled the scores at half time. Ramirez gave the ball away too much but he will come good eventually, Cork should have started the game. Wanyamas passing was woeful again. Respectable draw away from home first game of the season.
-
If we signed players from teams substantially lower than us, then yes it is common sense we would get it done much faster. However you would be the first on here crying that they are not good enough players to improve us. What evidence do you want? The club has repeatedly said we are signing more players, there are transfer rumours linking us to players, our manager has said we are close to completing some deals. Do you think putting all of our targets out in public is going to help our pursuit of them when we may be competing with much bigger fish across the world? We cannot play with the same rules as Man Utd and Real Madrid.
-
Okay this is getting ridiculous, but I will try one more time just in case you genuinely suffer with learning difficulties; Southampton FC does not have the power to force a non Southampton FC player or rival club to sell or accept a transfer to us at any given time we want (i.e. at the start of the transfer window). Contingency plans mean little at all if the player we have targeted isn't ready to move and the club we are buying from isn't ready to sell.
-
If we were bottom it would be the same for several other teams for sure. So you think we will lose to liverpool, WBA, and West Ham. There are also only 3 games before the window closes…

I find it ****ing incredible that people really believe it is a simple choice to get transfers done quickly. Try factoring in players who want to wait to see what clubs come in, clubs who want to wait and see who becomes available once other moves take place, players who are kicking up a fuss to generate interest, world cup where the whole process starts later. Clubs that need to hold onto a player until some money comes in or another transfer completes so that they appease the fans. Generally the only clubs after higher level quality players that can snap their fingers and buy immediately are the big big teams. This is because in the case of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd, the players know they want to go there for definite, the wages are superb, the club has limitless funds. It really is common sense. Once the whole carousel starts to move we just like everyone else will be able to complete deals on some of these top players. We are second or even third choice to most of our preferred targets I expect, we are lucky to have the two in we already do and that is because of their relations to and impressions of Koeman. Elsewhere it isn't as simple, if we want the best we need to have some patience.

The mad thing is the people who want him to stay the most are the ones who get so upset and get on twitter and tell him to f-eck off. Madness

Sky Sources: New 5 Year Contract offered to Jay Rodriguez
Mallagroth replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
About Rodriguez yes, it was a joke of debatable quality. I wasn't being sarcastic when I called the super cunning irreverent comedian who likes to pretend he's stupid 'in order to catch people out' an idiot, because I had no idea he wasn't just another internet numpty thinking he was ITK. Can we move on now? -

ooh get you… i want you to look back at post 213. I held my hands up then. You're preaching to the choir mate, but carry on if it makes you feel good. I probably would get a better reception on this forum if I had just levelled 24 lines of insults at dubai Phil and threatened to post pictures of his wife/daughter on the forum instead of admitting to something… -
Who the **** is this granddad?

like it, fingers crossed. (spell check made it fingers cortesed…apple is wum/saint charlie clearly)

To be fair all pre-season friendlies look something like this. You may recall if you went to most of last years or watched it on streams that we didn't look special at all, Guly was one of our top scorers. You aren't judging the polish just the raw team cohesion and interplay. Players will tend to over hit passes or try different things that will either make them look worse or better. Players are learning to read each other and are concentrating on the formation instructions by the manager at this stage, once that is second nature and they know their positions they will better be able to concentrate on controlling ball and making more dynamic opportunities for themselves and team mates, i.e. lots of crosses and classic Fifa style square balls into the box at the moment. The new academy lads will be under more pressure to get their position and movement right for the manager and so should definitely not be judged at all on one performance. However this is just my opinion on pre seasons at saints although it is based on watching a lot of pre season games in the last 4 years (which is true of lots of people).
-
Oho! Nice try Matie but we see through it. Clearly you've let the truth slip here; Danny Fox didn't like the way he was treated at saints and got burned by them, consequently he's spoken with Ings and the burnley board and hospitalised the deal. Great nice one Les. Kat out!

If that's so then fair enough, but I don't follow his stuff so had no prior inclination that he was anything other than one of a hundred other twitter idiots who do say this sort of thing. I guess the clue was in #Franchiseenhancementwindow which I liked. -
Yeah it's a really tough call, he looks to have bulked up physically in pre-season like Shaw before him. I would abstain on this one, but would suggest that Clyne has the better attacking skills and Chambers the better defensive depending on whats needed game by game, but it is really marginal.

I'd release a public statement to make a point of how disappointed we are with Dejan's behaviour. It would go something like this; 'Dejan Lovren has made it clear to the club that he no longer wishes to play football or honour his contract signed with Southampton Football Club only 12 months ago, consequently Southampton FC would like to invite bids from any club for his services in this very unusual circumstance. We would also like to make it clear that if SFC suspects that any club has acted dishonourably in the business of transfer arrangements with any of our players, we will be adamantly refusing to sell at a negotiable price to said club, and any premium placed on said players must be accepted if said club still wishes to conduct the transfer. Naturally we are inviting all bids for Dejan. Until such time as someone is willing to take the risk on Dejan despite his dissapointing conduct, he will be invited to train one to one with a development coach and have no further contact with the remaining professional players at Southampton FC who are prepared to honour their contracts and work towards the future ambition of the club that pays their wages.' Yes I know I am living in cuckoo land, and this is why I would never be allowed anywhere near a PR team.

HAHA what an idiot. Thankfully James Rodriguez has done his ACL and will be staying with us then.
