At this stage you're predicting what the team will be, not just how they'll do. I think we'll be competing for top half again but not as comfortably as we were last year, and might well miss out. Capable of much better if everything goes well, though.

I was watching a profile of the Colombia team before the World Cup and he looked very tidy indeed for them, Napoli and Udinese, not bad going forward and strong in the challenge. I say he'd be terrific because I think he solves the problem of signing an experienced player who's happy to compete with a youngster, and he wouldn't cost too much either. If you want someone with pedigree to compete with Targett, rather than Robertson who's only a bit older, then he's your man. Robertson sounds like a star for the future, though.

You've got a point about consistency, but last season Ings was unreal. Wouldn't have got promoted without him, because he won them so many games on his own. I'll admit that I didn't pay any attention to Rodriguez/Burnley until we were in the Championship but I didn't think he was quite so integral to the team.

Rodgers did it to Suarez last summer, so in a word, yes.

To be fair Ings is much better than Rodriguez was when he left Burnley I think they'll hold out for around £10m but if Danny wants to come they'll let him go for less.

I really don't think you can even entertain the idea of not signing any players. Worst case scenario is we can't get our top targets and have to settle for others later in the window. Nobody can guess who those players would be, but no matter what the team will be much stronger than that.

I wouldn't call it a dig but it is a fairly obvious reference. If all these rumours about Pochettino playing favourites are true, there could be some serious dressing room issues at Spurs. Rubbing Jack Cork up the wrong way is manageable but if you're marginalising stars on £100,000 a week, things could get complicated. And they've got a much bigger squad than us.

I think you're just about spot on. We're nowhere near the truth about the phone calls or refusal to play, but taking the smal handful of reports at face value you can see why the relationship between club and captain soured. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new player!
