  1. Disclosing transfer fees also gives other clubs an indication of how much we're willing to shell out. If we let the world know we've (hypothetically) paid £10m for Pelle then nobody's going to accept less for their striker.
  2. In real terms the Rooney fee is worth a little more than Shaw's. Adjusted for inflation it was £32.7m, compared to £31m for Shaw including add-ons.
  3. How satisfying it would be to hijack their deal. Unlikely, but we have landed Spurs targets before.
  4. It's literally been 12 hours
  5. Because better teams want them. Tadic is a Serbian international and looks to be coming here because we are a more attractive proposition than his current club, Twente. He would also fancy a move to Manchester United or Liverpool if those clubs wanted him. That's how it works. The important thing is how selling (or non-selling) clubs can ensure the right result for them, be that keeping the player or receiving enough compensation to make their departure worth it.
  6. That Gareth Barry letter was really nice. I think we would all have appreciated something like that from Adam.
  7. Alex Crook reported it here. Not been reported anywhere else and Adam Blackmore says he doesn't buy it. That's all we have available to us at the moment.

  9. Weak letter, but I still don't understand how everyone hates him this much. I still feel that 'ultimatum' (if it was even made) would have been seen to be empty had the transfer collapsed.
  10. Clever. Even better if you swap lines two and four
  11. I reckon we just sing at kick-off and leave it at that.
  12. £4.5m really is taking the ****, I'd be furious if I were a Feyenoord fan. Imagine if Pochettino bid under £10m for Rodriguez!
  13. An awful lot of players find it difficult because they've left school at 16 to pursue football so don't have the skills or education to walk into a good career elsewhere. This plus the psychological effects which give all too many players depression etc. It's not just about money, either. At Adam's age, one season of injury or poor form at Southampton could mean he'll never get the chance to play in the Champions League or compete for titles. You've got to take the opportunity when it's there. Shaw, on the other hand, could have stayed for another one, two, three years and still walked into a top club. Haha, I wouldn't expect anything like that level of abuse. Maybe if Adam had gone to Portsmouth.
  14. I imagine they will hold the kit until there's at least one new player to wear it.
  15. The transfer fee may well be secret because Liverpool don't want a backlash on spending too much or going above their 'final offer'

I would be happy to give him another chance if the club and his team mates are. But if he's not training today that's a fairly clear sign. Unless he's injured?
  17. I really can't imagine that was a genuine threat, though maybe I'm giving him too much credit. Has the quote been verified?
  18. It's funny that you say that! I agree that their older setlists had a little too much space for lesser album cuts (though almost all of Funeral and The Suburbs are top class) but I think Reflektor's weakened their balance significantly. I was really impressed with how they adapted older songs like Haiti to match the new aesthetic and sound (bongos, disco influence etc) but some of the new songs (Normal Person, Joan of Arc) are far more fillery than anything they were playing on The Suburbs tour. I'd happily drop Normal Person, Joan of Arc and Flashbulb Eyes to have Modern Man, Laika and We Used To Wait back.
  19. Jake Livermore was a very good signing for Hull, not so sure about Snodgrass. But it does show they mean business financially.
  20. Haha yup sorry, misread you
  21. You can't have been paying attention. The Lallana, Pochettino and Shaw moves were all heavily reported for months, the Lambert story was broken a few days before it was confirmed and the press kept us in the loop regarding Koeman and other managerial candidates. Where do you think 'obvious links' come from if not reporting? On gossip columns, it drives me up the wall that people ignore such an obvious truth: just because a transfer does not happen doesn't mean a story saying a club was interested or made a bid was inaccurate. Football clubs do monitor players, enquire and make bids without transfers eventually going through. In fact, we know that Liverpool and Manchester United made unsuccessful bids a couple of weeks ago, and we know thanks to (if memory serves) the BBC and Guardian. Of course there's some poorly sourced rubbish in tabloids but, as with any other area of reporting, the good outlets get things right.
  22. Well that was class. James Blake, Arcade Fire, Ben Klock/Marcel Dettmann and Metallica the highlights for me. Regretting the insane amount of clashes on Saturday night meaning I missed John Grant, Anna Calvi, Machinedrum, Jon Hopkins and most of Pixies/Mogwai Also really annoyed that Aphex Twin was over two hours late for his secret set - he was due on at 3am and I had to leave at 5am because I just couldn't bear to stand anymore
