Who would you pick in midfield playing a 4-1-2-3? Would you start Cork over Wanyama or Schneiderlin?
-
Sad to see Jack go, but Koeman wants to play with one holding midfielder and that ultimately makes him surplus to requirements. Can't quite understand how Morgan is worth nine times as much. We just have to hope his situation resolves itself now, because if he leaves or can't perform it's just Wanyama left all of a sudden.

Erm, I'd take Soldado if we're forced to let Schneiderlin go and couldn't get the others. He had a shocker last year but didn't become a bad player overnight.

That'll be fun, my old Bradford-supporting housemate hates Leeds

Am I right in saying that's the first time we've seen a figure for Osvaldo's purchase option? £5.6m.

Gotta take this seriously I think

To be fair, Guly could run and defend -
Poor lad, hope it doesn't become a recurring problem.

That's really not their job. They'll have flagged him up for possessing attributes that we're after in a forward (fair enough) and others will have set the price we're willing to go to.

Scouts don't negotiate transfer fees. Has he? He scored seven goals last season. I won't list every player that scored seven or more goals last season, but I can tell you that one of them was Martin Skrtel.

Send Pelle back, buy DJ Campbell
-
You're right, realism is needed. Send Wanyama back and buy Scott Parker.

Close to signing for Leeds, so says Simon Peach.

If we are after Long, I wonder whether the idea is to replace some of Lambert's movement and ability to stretch a defence. For me that was Lambert's greatest strength in the Premier League, but we won't be able to replicate that in a lone striker so adding a bit of running and/or width might do a similar job.

Agree on the need to support Morgan when he's back on the pitch. How willing he is to play on for us doesn't make a difference as long as he does play on, and he'll perform better with our support than without.

Says Boruc understands the situation and, while it may be difficult for him, 'that's football'.
-
He hasn't been a fringe player at all. He was first choice under Adkins, lost his place early last season but held it through and after Wanyama's injury. I'd say he was the closest player to the first XI who wasn't an automatic selection, while the fringe included players like Yoshida, Hooiveld and Guly. You might be right about being offered the contract as a carrot, but one also suspects he'd have been told if that was the case.
-
He hasn't. That's not got much to do with our tactics though, considering he was damn good at everything else as well. Crossing looks like one of Tadic's strengths, while height and power are among Pelle's. It's worth using them, especially in the absence of Rodriguez who would be best at running past a deeper-lying Pelle.

I've never rated Redmond that highly but you're right, Norwich have been a mess for a long time. They couldn't even make Leroy Fer look more than average most of the time.
-
That would be quite a lineup to take to Upton Park but wouldn't happen in time for Anfield or (probably) West Brom. Tadic was whipping balls in all afternoon yesterday and looked pretty bloody good at it. I'd fancy him against Liverpool's full-backs and Pelle can get his head on them. We won't have enough possession to plonk Tadic and Ramirez in the centre.

I think it's safe to say they wouldn't dream of selling Cork if Morgan goes. Injuries will always be a problem when they crop up but we'd struggle to please three players of their class if they're competing for a single spot. If we end up with those three unavailable for whatever reason(s), Davis and Ward-Prowse have done a job in holding roles before and Gardos is supposed to be capable there as well.
-
It's looking more and more like he'll be off, isn't it? Koeman's played with one holding midfielder so far, and between Schneiderlin, Wanyama and Cork one of them's not going to be happy. I'd hate to see Cork go but if that's how we're playing I'd rather lose him than Wanyama or Schneiderlin. Though I suppose the plan may be to play Morgan in one of the more advanced positions played by Ward-Prowse/Davis/Taider yesterday. Who knows?
-
I'm sure it was as simple as that.

Chambers won't be first choice at centre back when Koscielny and Mertesacker are fit, and he'll be pushed further down the pecking order when they bring in a replacement for Vermaelen. It's a real shame we let him go but I wouldn't use today's Arsenal lineup to indicate that he should have been a centre half for us last season.
