2 years ago we were a top 10 club pushing the top 6. Now we are a bottom 14 club happy just to be in the Premier league. Funny how quickly things change and ambitions drop
-
Does every other premier league club sell its best players asap? Does every other premier club drop from 6th to 17th in 2 seasons? Does every other premier league club sell players to one club constantly? Does every other club have a squad costing c£300m? Does every other club have one.of it's highest paid players being the 3rd choice GK. Does every other club have its transfer record out on loan?

Can I introduce you to http://www.google.com it's a hidden gem and allows you to search for ANYTHING You can use it to search for Southampton fc latest accounts and allows you to search for things like "most expensive football squads" can also add cheeky words like "comparisons & all teams" mix it up, play with it... Have some fun with it. Trust me it's brilliant - Happy hunting As for "maybe we can actually have a debate about the facts" I've taken a quick peak at your forum contributions to date and it's clear what type of poster you are..... Another poster that posts (almost exclusively) about other posters and doesn't seem to have much opinion, passion or knowledge of football or saints. So happy to pass on the "debate" that you "maybe" able to offer For those who want to believe, no proof is ever required. For those who refuse to believe, no proof is ever enough. Enjoy Google and spread the word OK. Knowledge is power

a bag of unflavoured crisps is a decent description of saints these days. Over 800 days since we beat a top 6 side in the league and a squad full of Mr Average. Was asked this week's whose Southamptons best player now... Just said Ings (guy looked a bit confused) Also cost me €35, Saints GK top, England shirt, England GK shirt, box of fortnite figures and a football to trade one older Liverpool shirt with nephew.... He couldn't name 2 Saints players but knew loads from other clubs Club is just very meh these days.... Lost its spark and appeal.
-
2013 was good when Saints had FF, Lallana, Jay and Lambert in the squad. Remember that Lambert winner against Scotland? Good times Not so much fun just watching a mix of the top 6 club players again

^ if I lived in a dark room and someone kept turning on the lights and opening the curtains I'd be annoyed too. Truth hurts sometimes mate. Enjoy the good times but don't be scared to challenge things. Being passionate and questioning things doesn't make you a bad fan, probably just means you care. Always negative? https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?57823-****-POSITIVES-**** Be careful mate, I know you don't post a lot but seems when you do its about me. Don't want anyone to think you're obsessed with Big H. You're not obsessed are you mate? Are you...

Seems we got a combined £100m for Mane and VVD. If Liverpool tried to sell both now I doubt they'd get much more than £300m Who could have ever predicted the market movement though right.... We reinvested our £100m in Carillo (20) Boufal (17) Ings (20) Hoedt (15) Big V (22) + paid off some of Corteses huge debts, so safe to say we've had the last laugh Liverpool won 2-0 at palace, same as us. Liverpool won 1-0 against Brighton, same as us.. So they've given us millions and we are still just as good as them.

Chilling in Mallorca so just had chance to see highlights and goals. Great result and much needed 3 points. Let's hope this is a springboard rather than another false dawn. COYY

Prove that our squad has cost us c£300m? Is it difficult adding up 20 numbers together? We have only spent money on about 20-22 players so this shouldn't be too difficult. Quick maths our squad has cost £265m and that's without some of the legacy and cheaper purchases like Yoshida and Davis I know it's easier to belive we are a small club which can't possibly compete with the Premier league big spenders like Leicester, Bournemouth, Watford and Burnley
-
I have a funny feeling we like to leak out higher prices when signing players.... Show we are spending what we received and have ambition blabla We also like to include the wages (full term of players contract) so like to leak the total cost of player over term while others just talk about the signing cost (transfer fee) all seems a bit small man/club (thanks Ralph) syndrome to me. This seems to satisfy the majority saints fan Was same with Gibson at Boro, we seemed to leak out a fee of £20-25m when Burnley then signed him for £15m. People just assume we were asked for more
-
Sorry guys thought these were jest posts. Thought it was fairly simple. Take the current squad and apply/add the reported transfer fee paid for each. If the are from our academy then it's 0. If the reported fee was 0, then 0 if the reported fee is £8m then £8m... Apologies thought this was self explanatory.

Everton and Silva are pants.... Easy win.
-
About 150 season tickets a week. Unbelievable
-
Great summary 86.
-
don't take the mickey, Micky

We advertised ourselves as a "stepping stone" club for a while and then seemed to renegade on a number of gentlemens agreements. Probably explains why we are now struggling to get deals done. Imagine agents do talk and once you **** off a few you get a bad name. It's probably costing us more in agent fees too Anyways....back to palace. I predict 2-1
-
We don't create the chances like Spurs n Man City do but prolific strikers like Kane and Aguero don't always need 4-5 chances to score. We are ponderous and seem to lack imagination in the final 3rd, we also lack the required pace in the side to successfully counter attack teams.

You understand how a momentum curve works right? You don't just go from 250mph to 20mph Its gradual but clear your spreed is declining. 8th wasn't the issue it was the clear playing decline + massive points drop and failure to win a single game against the top 6 in the league. A run that's now extended 800+ days.

Classic SWF myths right here Love n light X
-
Puel killed the momentum with his chosen style that's for sure, but I don't blame Puel. I blame Les Reed as he appointed Puel (and Little Wilson and Eric F-ing Black.) Was like taking a fast moving train and applying a 15mph limiter on it.
-
For all Puels strengths and he had a few, he was appointed at the wrong time. We were delicately poised at the top of our momentum curve and Puels new considered approach was not fitting with the squad we had.
-
I have spoken before about Les Reed and the momentum curve and our journey since he took over is classic. The momentum created by Cortese / Paul Mitchell was powerful and allowed us to continue apparently unfazed from the Cortese /Mitchell departures. I preached (apparently trolled) about the dangers but fans work game to game and when you're winning you think it will last forever. We peaked (top of our momentum) 15/16 and needed new impitus to stop the inevitable and predicted slide. Puel was that impitus and set us nicely sliding down the momentum curve. The decline is not finished yet and while it might slow down the damage is done. We have killed the academy and discouraged the next generation of fans in 2-3 years of mismanagement. Club needs a clear out before momentum could start positively again. Could take years to recover from this Les Reed era

Stop Zaha stop Palace. Still amazed Zaha is still at Palace. Thought legally you had to sell players once the top 6 make an enquiry
