Wow, that's coincidental. We just got it in the States about a week ago. Not 2 hours ago I started watching the first episode and I'm running through the first season as we speak.

I'm based out of the US state of Delaware. Hence why I questioned the need for a car in the Lake District. I've driven on the left side of the road before and will do it again in Ireland on this trip but it takes 2 people to drive. Me in the driver's seat and the other in my ear constantly saying "stay left, look right," at least at circles. I don't want to endanger the fair people of Cumbria. I hope I see some goals too. For each of the two past seasons I've seen Southampton play Everton at St Mary's. It wasn't on purpose, just worked out that way. Out of those 180 minutes of play I've yet to see Southampton score a goal. 2013 was a 0-0 draw and last season was a 2-0 win but Everton scored 2 own goals. I'm hoping this season I'll get to see a Southampton goal, preferably many of them.

York seems to be winning out but the trip is far enough away that it could change. The suggestions have lead me to research places I wouldn't normally have come across, which is what I'm after. I don't just want to hit the big touristy spots and I get pap's sentiments about York. One of the reasons I never stay long in Dublin is because I find myself drinking with more Americans than Irish. I'm looking at the logistics now of hitting York and spots among the Dales. Definitely going to work in the Settle-Carlisle line but may have to get a car for the Lake District as I make my west along that part of England. As long as I can make it back down to Southampton for the match against Aston Villa, I'll be fine. Appreciate the suggestions, keep them coming.

All great stuff, thanks. After your suggestion buctootim, namely the dales, I stumbled across some castles up that way (Skipton and Bolton). I may use that as inspiration to bounce around up there. Is a car the only way to see the Lake District?
-
Thanks everyone. I've done Bath/Stonehenge before. I was looking at heading North (or West) as I haven't been that far from London and wanted to see more of England, possibly Wales and probably don't have enough time for Scotland. York seems to checks a lot of boxes on paper and the Lake District looks great. My only hesitation about the Lake District is having to use a car. I'm guessing that's the only way to really get around up there? Essentially, towns with lots of history, whether that be Tudor or Medieval buildings and streets, coupled with good old pubs and I should be happy. I'd be there in May, so weather should be good.

I've visited London and Southampton many a time so on my next excursion I'd like to venture farther out of the capital. Any recommendations on where to go? I've perused TripAdvisor and the guidebooks but I'm interested to see what you recommend. I'd have 3-5 days dedicated to venturing outside the capital and enjoy places with lots of history. I've been to Bath and Dover. Is York or the Lake District recommended? Again, interested to see what you recommend, outside of the guidebooks. Thanks

I hope so as Ronnie and the Boys always seem to score when I get up to get another beer. I mean it's barbaric to think I can't get up to get something to eat for 45 minutes! 45 minutes!? I'm starving by then!

Pelle looks to have gotten his hair cut, wants to look good for that post match presser discussing his hat trick no doubt.

Let's keep the booing to our players and the excessive clapping to former players/judas managers.

That filter isn't going to help the pool much sitting several inches above the water line. Spend money on a Saints mosaic but you can't afford to put water in the pool?! Weird.

Let shut them up! and shout from the rooftops!

LV is very much correct. Verizon FIOS is the only one that doesn't show every game on the boob tube but you can definitely get it online through NBC Sports Live Extra. Monosaint, you were probably watching on Comcast which makes you go through menus and plays the game like an on demand video. Saints for everyone! Wooohoooo! -
Made better by everyone making a snake motion with their right arm and bending it side to side, even lurching forward to attack as snakes do. Lets make this a visual thing, not just an audio thing.

Jose Fonte in new Portugal coach's thoughts - Gets first Call Up!
Saint_Abroad replied to stevegrant's topic in The Saints
Very much so. Portugal need someone like Jose, aka someone that actually wants to be there. Força Portugal! -
I've never been a huge FUT fan but I'm giving it a go this year. I spend all my money reconstructing the Saints so I've got to be more objective. I was going to play your squad in a friendly, sans you but you seem to have a better team than I.

Anybody Else Doing Strange Rituals For Good Luck

When the opposing manager/players show up on the boob tube, and only they are in frame, I give it the middle finger with both hands three times. When Ronnie or just the Saints are in frame I give it a 2 handed thumbs up three times. Nothing like some ol' fashion hand voodoo. -
O man, that means Pellegrini has City 8 points from the bottom. Surely he'll be sacked in the morning.

Purchasing Tickets overseas
Saint_Abroad replied to sotongomad76's topic in Overseas Saints / Supporters Groups
Just register an account online through the club, they give you a nifty account number and you purchase online as if you were sitting in Hampshire. Choose to pick up at the stadium, go to the window at the north end of said stadium, boom, you're enjoying mildly warm Saints Ale. I live in the States and have gone to several matches at St Mary's, never had a problem. You can even do a test run to see how seats are selected on one of the other matches currently on sale. Find out when tickets go on sale for the match, generally 4-6 weeks before and if they go on sale at 9AM Southampton Time then be ready at 6 PM (did I do the math right?) to select your seats. I like to sit in Itchen center but that's usually full of season ticket holders and fills up fast, Kingsland should have more available. Have fun and enjoy! Can't bring beer back to your seats though -
They asked some weird questions in that presser about Champions League and how do you stop players from leaving again if you're successful. Seemed like someone was fishing for a story, something to go against the recent wave of Southampton positivity perhaps?

Ahhh too much Banks? For those there, how was the team interaction with Mane? He didn't seem to celebrate the PK but did for Clyne's.

Meh, generally, or at least in text books, the better motivating tool is adding intrinsic value to the tasks of those following (players/employees). From what I've seen of LVG he seems to shyte on them regularly and in the open (at least with Luke). While footballers live a pampered life and I wouldn't mind punching a few, a lot of them are in a new system, on a new team, a team that has a new coach. I'd want the players to buy into my new philosophy if I was he and "outing" them may not be the best way.

I believe "monkey-faced" orange, maybe yellow pansies.

He seemed confident as others have said but I also liked his pace. He seemed quick which is reassuring in case there's a quick counter. He starts over Yosh in my opinion. Nothing against Yoshida, just an executive decision.

I'll tell you which one I hate, the fukcin pancreas. That piece of shyte has been on a free ride for the last 13 years. It went and quit on me and I've been paying for that dead beat waste of deoxyribonucleic acid ever since. O, and I like the big organs that have the really high pipes in medieval churches, namely the one from Count Duckula, which wasn't in a medieval church but characteristic of what I like none the less.
