  1. Have a look at his management record and you'll see that he doesn't always honour his contracts. I posted a quote from one of our Dutch contributors last night here it is again; "Koeman used to say that "you have to jump on the train when it comes along" in the past so he left some clubs before the ending of his contract. However, he acknowledged that this harmed his reputation and his career was a bit at a dead end before he joined Feyenoord. He stayed for three years and left with a very good feeling about getting things done. With this experience in mind he won't break his contract as easily as before but off course that might be different when he gets a mega offer from a different club and the Saints go along." It would appear that it's all aboard the Everton Express for Ron.
  2. I've not been following his progress but I wasn't that impressed with his football at Spurs - bored me to be honest. Maybe he's a lot better now. I suppose one positive would be he isn't likely to get poached by any of the "big" clubs and would be willing to take on the project with open arms - a chance to prove himself in the prem, unfinished business and all that, without the massive expectation. Anyway, Ron's a gonna by the looks of it and another team/manager for me to wish mighty failure upon raises it's head
  3. Yep, "ambition" = cash!!! Doesn't matter how much we pay him, once he has an offer from a big club he'll be off anyway. Whatever "ambition" we display will never be enough.
  4. a) As chairman I wouldn't match Everton's offer, what if they up their offer again? How high do we go? The club should never be held to ransom by an individual. Southampton isn't about one person it's the whole team working together.Plus as chairman I'd question if he is worth the money. Perhaps he's not as good as we all think he is. Which Koeman do we get next season, the Winter can't-win-a-match Koeman, dumped out of the European Cup playing awful football, battered by Liverpool League Cup Koeman? Or the last half of this season Koeman beating all the big teams and getting us to 6th? Too risky, too expensive, especially if he has a sh*t season and we have to sack him. b) No, for all the reasons above c) I'd stick with the current plan, we know he's off at the end of next season anyway unless we pay him mega bucks which we aren't prepared to pay. Plan for the future with hopefully a new committed manager.
  5. I'm definitely not surprised. Any passion I once had for the national team is dead. I used to leap out of my chair, scream, shout, feel sick with nerves etc But since the World Cup and Hodgson's continued management I watch matches devoid of any positive emotion. The entire Euro qualifiers I didn't once feel pleased that we won. Maybe I need a therapist.
  6. Just came across this from a past thread, quite appropriate considering the present situation;
  7. These might be the quotes you're thinking of;
  8. DeBoer made a comment some weeks ago about a Dutch player (apologies I can't remember who or where) recommending he go to Saints as it is a good place to get noticed for an eventual big move elsewhere. I presume he might feel the same when it comes to managers as well.
  9. Would seem to be a good fit except he's another one who thinks Southampton are a stepping stone to a bigger club.
  10. Ron reveals his true colours. Money talks. Deserves more abuse than Poch. All his positive words at the end of the season - hollow bullsh*t. I can't stand bullsh*tters. Anyone else think that DeBoer leaving Ajax with no job offer slightly strange? All at the same time that Martinez left, with the same agent as Ron? Has this process been planned all along? Am I seeing conspiracies where there are none? Probably. What a sh*t day. Of course if all of this is untrue and he stays - what a lovely genuine bloke
  11. Embarrassing. And arrogant. If Ron is gone. I'd love to know what has gone on to change things so quickly.
  12. Completely agree. Surely these games should be for getting the first XI used to playing with each other and the system, swapping the occasional player. Crazy we're still no nearer knowing who starts and what system.
  13. Yayyyy ....another England win!!! Wallpaper. Paste. Cracks.
  14. Tournament starts next week and Roy still doesn't know his best team or formation.
  15. Danny Rose MotM. Just thought I'd let you know.
  16. "They know that, when you look at the situation at Southampton, Ronald Koeman has a great set-up. He's been boasting about the training facilities and the team he's built there and got into Europe twice in a row. You can't really say it can get any better." Seriously, it can't get any better? I suppose playing in the group stages of the European Cup isn't "any better". I've heard Van Der Kraan before, I remember when Koeman joined Saints he said he was surprised he didn't go to a bigger club, so his tune hasn't changed much.
  17. I suppose I'm looking at it in terms of PR for the club, I would rather it appeared we dispensed of his services rather than he preferred another club.
  18. If that were the case I would have expected less positive noises from Les Reed, surely better to keep quiet............ unless this has suddenly occurred. In any case, if the club are to take the route of terminating his contract they best get on with it asap. Rather we sacked him than he leaves us! Anyway, my personal thought is that this is a load of nothing generated by a solitary rumour, betting and media during a barren news period. I hope!
  19. Isn't all this just a repeat of a few weeks ago when The Liverpool Echo printed a story about him being "interested" in the Everton job (RK actually stated that he wasn't) then the national press took it up? Betting odds and media articles fuelling each other. Another article in the Echo, media take it up and off we go again? At least that's what I hope it is............ If he's off to Everton 'cos of the money they are wiling to pay him then he is not the person I thought he was. If I take the cynical, meltdown approach then of course, he holds all the cards. He knows the club want commitment from him, which he can refuse - explaining that he will honour his present contract. "I'm an honourable man." But he knows that the contract situation won't be acceptable to the board, thus leaving him in the position of being able to leave with honour intact and a massive pay rise from Everton!
  20. Think the title needs to be changed to " The 'ammers, loud and out in the open, classless transfer thread"
  21. Having watched it twice I have to say I agree with you. First time I watched I thought, that's good, talks are ongoing with lawyers getting involved, watched it a second time to see if I missed something suspicious and no, couldn't see anything. Personally I can't see any hidden agenda or motive.
  22. Bet the Celtic players are worried about their names being in Brendan's envelopes
  23. Can just imagine Ron and his missus snig*gering in the pool as LvG arrives next door.
  24. Phew. I've been saying it for years too. I personally have no axe to grind with monarchy or religion but a lot of people do, and they are immediately disconnected from their own anthem. On top of that I feel we should be singing about our country and ourselves. As you say, it's flat and uninspiring. The Scots and Welsh are able to really get emotional and passionate with their anthems, shed a tear in fact. Ours is just, well, sorry your majesty, but it's just meh!
  25. Now that. Would be brilliant.:thumbup:
