  1. Word is that Johnson now is deliberately bringing more useless people into the cabinet to try and stitch up his successor. Not that you can be much more useless than Johnson.
  2. More so if you didn’t actually do anything wrong, despite all of the best efforts of the Daily Mail. So what is the score? 126-0. We know that the right wing media were trying to tell us that had he and Rayner been fined it would equal up the score (126-2). Watch as somehow they still try and make out that Starmer is just as grubby as Johnson. Starmer made a great speech today. The next general election can’t come soon enough.
  3. No Batman, it wasn’t but it didn’t prevent you from posting it. 😂
  4. Joe Shields has been announced now as new Head of Recruitment. Opps…just seen a thread on his appointment elsewhere 😵‍💫
  5. He does have a very good sense of humour but there has been precious little to laugh about for some time. As a former QC he will be used to writing his own closing speeches so I would imagine he mostly writes his own material. Angela Rayner said that he tends to work on his PMQ stuff himself.
  6. Nonce defender Starmer? Evidence?
  7. I wouldn’t bank on it. What he should do and what he does are two very different things. They will have to drag him kicking and screaming out of No.10. So far none of the other cabinet members have managed to grow a spine. Hopefully a few more will go before tomorrow. I expect there will be a lot of internal pressure on him to go but will he listen?
  8. So the kits have enough similarities to be called similar? That’ll do for me. 😉
  9. It seems that your mate Turkish doesn’t understand English according to his quote in your post. As for this picture, what is it supposed to be about? I have read your posts over the years both as Delldays and then as Batman and the only thing I can work out about your mindset is that you don’t have a problem with any kind of bigotry and go out of your way to have digs at those who oppose it. I guess all those months underwater away from civilisation can have that effect on you?
  10. Not as original as you might think. The design is very similar to the Newport County kit last season and the promotional blurb more so.
  11. Perhaps the plan is to make the opposition feel sea sick?
  12. Absolute pony. As someone who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s I can tell you that racism, homophobic and all that crap was was endemic in my peer group so please don’t pretend it was just the older generation. Yes there were plenty of liberal “woke people too, but the Gammon attitudes crossed all age groups in the 60’s and 70’s. The reason people did speak up against it was because you were seen as odd if you supported black people, gay people, bigots. Alf Garnet was supposed to be a figure of ridicule but many laughed with him instead of at him. Fortunately many people who grew up in the 60’s and 70’s have changed with the times but some, strangely, still call women “chicks” and anyone slightly left of centre “pinkos.” Before you go off one one, just think back to the jokes being told in the playgrounds in those days. They were all racist, sexist and homophobic. The sort you and your crowd probably still tell in your local Duckie. There were plenty of young people throwing bananas on the pitch at football matches. This country was full of bigots of all ages in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. One of the major changes now is if you call out bigotry you get labelled as a “snowflake” or “woke” as if standing up against that kind of thing is bad. Bigotry sucked in the last century and it sucks now. Thankfully more people are prepared to call it out for what it is now, despite those who put more effort into poking fun at “snowflakes” rather than dealing with the actual bigotry itself. These people thrive on todays social media where they can operate with complete anonymity behind a keyboard. We have two people on this forum who think it is amusing to use a doctored picture of someone who made comments about racist remarks as their avatars. Tells you all you need to know about how bigotry is still enabled in this country
  13. Let’s play another game. Who can name a poster who has been banned twice but keeps coming back with a new name and swears blind he is not Delldays and Batman? Further clues, yeah but Corbyn, yeah but Starmer, the king of Whataboutery, spends his days trawling Twitter and other internet cess pools for random crap which supports his own warped world view, makes Turkish look almost reasonable in comparison. No prizes, but if you are the first name pulled out of the hat you get to choose his next username. 😎
  14. I think 3 kits is taking the piss but don’t have a problem with the club changing the look regularly. They need to raise revenue and this is an obvious way to do it. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. If you think it is a rip off, don’t buy it. I was talking to an 18 year old Chelsea supporter the other day, not only does he buy the complete full kits every year but he also buys the training kits and leisure wear. You’d think he would have better things to spend his money on at that age, but it is his choice.
  15. As someone on another forum posted, had a footballer been given a bj by his latest squeeze while his wife was being treated for cancer and tried to get her a job at his club it would be all over the tabloids in banner headlines. Mind you, his supporters don’t seem to care what he does anyway. It has become priced in. Oh, that’s just cuddly old Boris. At least he got Brexit done. As you say, if these things were done by Corbyn, Starmer, Abbot etc the right wing media would be all over it. If Starmer and Rayner are issued with fines for their curry night (why does it take the police so long to investigate and come to a conclusion?) you just know there will be a feeding frenzy on them but Johnson will again, get away with it.

    Russia

I keep hearing the word “deterrent” used but it isn’t is it? Putin is doing exactly whatever he wants to do because he knows we won’t fire first and he has convinced us he is mad enough to fire first. He has deployed chemical weapons in a NATO country and we have done nothing. War is waged in many different ways now. The MAD strategy is now archaic and is actually working against us because our adversaries know that we will never use our nuclear weapons first. What is mad is to spend an absolute fortune on weapons our enemies know we will never use. If they ever decide to fire first, the so called deterrent will have failed as there will be little left our end to fight for and possibly nothing left to fight with. If Russia develop a first strike capability that leaves us incapable of striking back we are screwed. It is 2022 and we have moved a long way forward since the MAD strategy of the 40’s and 50’s. Putin knows exactly what he is doing and is using our fear of a nuclear escalation against us.

It is still UK sovereign territory. We were told at the time it was like Argentina invading the Isle of Wight. How many times have we had terrorist attacks in mainland Britain? Countries like Germany, Italy and Spain get along without them just fine don’t they?

You sound like you disapprove about our support for the Ukrainian war effort? Perhaps their need is currently greater than ours? As for our defensive capabilities, surely as long as we keep our commitment we are fine? After all, all that money spent on Trident isn’t wasted is it? Here’s a thought for you, channel the money from nuclear weapons that clearly are not working as a deterrent (Falklands, various European conflicts) into more practical defence measures.
  19. Ale house? You are becoming more like Jacob Rees-Mogg every day Duckie.
  20. Ok, that’s freaky. Duckie and Delldays/Batman/Alex have finally morphed into one another. No surprise though! I can just imagine them back in the 70’s snuggling up with pints of Watneys watching episodes of Love Thy Neighbour. Anyway, didn’t get to see The Beatles as I was 12 when they quit touring in 1966. Not disappointed as the screaming was a bit off putting. My first gig though was T.Rex not long after they changed from being a hippy band into teenyboppers so didn’t exactly avoid crowds of screaming hysterical girls. When The Beatles broke up in 1970 there were so many other great bands emerging that I wasn’t particularly interested in following their solo careers. It wasn’t until 1990 that I finally got to see Paul McCartney on his first major solo tour after Wings at the Wembley Arena. He had a great band and the set list was awesome. Plenty of Beatles stuff and the best from the Wings era and his solo stuff at that point. It was probably the next best thing to seeing The Beatles although the harmonies were never going to be the same. Great gig. If you are into that stuff The Bootleg Beatles also do an amazing job of recreating that music. They put on a terrific show too which transports you back to the 60’s. Happy days! Mind you, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be 😎
  21. I was told that….. the easiest way to spread and feed an agenda is to post unsubstantiated rumours on social media. Best advice, when someone starts off a post with “I was told that” just assume that it has come from someone who is just shit stirring. As for the manager, as has been said, if he is really that bad at many aspects of his job, how crap must the new owners be for not recognising that and shipping him out with the rest of the coaching team at the earliest opportunity?
  22. Surely he is not going to adjust to playing in the EPL unless he plays in the EPL (with either us or another EPL team). Can’t see the point of him going to the Championship on loan. So he scores a few goals and gets his confidence back but you would assume he had plenty of confidence when signing from Blackburn. One of his problems seemed to be taking half a second longer in getting his shots away in the Prem, in other words, not shooting as instinctively as he did for Blackburn. Hopefully the new coaching team can sort this out and we will get the goal scorer we thought we had signed. Ralph has intimated that he is a long term project.
  23. The guy might have turned 80 years old and his voice may be going, but what a show he put on at Glastonbury tonight. I was in tears when he sang Something and in floods when he duetted with Lennon. Throw in Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen and some of the greatest music ever written.. what a night. The guy is a legend.
  24. A lady I work with has very dark skin and black hair. She has a foreign sounding name. She has a London (not cockney) accent and is British through and through in her DNA. She lives in a very middle class Kent town. She gets what would be described as racist abuse on a regular basis. I had darkish skin and dark hair and have a foreign sounding name. I was born in London and my family were born in London as far back as we can find. As a kid new teachers when going through the register for the first time each new school year would stop at my name, ask me to stand up and ask if I was foreign. Not great as a kid when you just want to blend in and not become a target for bullying. Fortunately I managed to avoid the worst of the bullying but it did make me a target and I was picked on in racist terms during my early years in secondary school. I am not pretending what I faced occasionally was anything like that of ethnic minorities and nor is Lineker, but most of us understand that there are people in this world who love to pick on people because they are different and you can’t be much more different in much of this country by having black or brown skin. I listened to a radio programme yesterday where the point was made why would you boo at people demonstrating against racism (footballers taking the knee) unless you had some sympathy for racism? If you share the views of non racists, why call out those demonstrating against racism? The same applies here. There are dozens of things to get agitated about on a daily basis, not least the latest news about our Prime Minister, his cabinet and how self serving and useless they are yet some people take the time and trouble to call out an individual for talking about racism and his experience of it. Apparently is is a reason to make fun of someone. One individual even goes as far, to deflect from this, by talking about the person’s “jug” ears. That’s ok then. 🙄
