  1. I agree but trying to be impartial 24/7 every day of the year must be taxing! Fair play to them, they parodied themselves brilliantly in W1A. No matter what they do they are going to piss off somebody. As for the number of quiz shows, I agree but they do have an audience and the BBC need to cater for that. I suppose that is why they broadcast Mrs Brown’s Boys too 😩. There has been a general dumbing down in all of the media for the last 20 to 30 years and the BBC hasn’t been immune to that. But they have to reflect the times in which we live and as we know from the likes of Brexit and the way that Covid has been handled, large sections of the public have very different views about these things. The BBC have an impossible job to do in trying to keep everybody happy but I think we are fortunate that at least we have a corporation that are trying to do do something more for the general public rather than just make money for shareholders or push an agenda for someone with far too much money and their own interests at heart.
  2. The BBC will never be able to please all of the people all of the time, but to be fair to them, they do try to cover as many spectrums as they can nowadays. As for bias, I have been watching the BBC all my life and have never found it inherently so. They ask difficult questions of those in power, which is their job, no matter what Party is in power. I don’t recall any PM or cabinet minister given an easy ride by the BBC reporters. As for being left wing, the BBC clearly has a social conscience, and you would expect that from a public funded broadcasting company. Over the years the BBC have covered social issues constantly, consistently and probably better than any other channels. They challenge not just politicians, but Royalty, businesses, crooks, the police, local councils and general wrongdoing. They don’t always get it right, but at least they do it and they do it on our behalf. If people want clear bias and self interest, there are plenty of media brands out there for their needs. For all of its faults, the BBC is still unique in its broad range of broadcasting and its efforts to speak to a very diverse country. We are lucky to have it. It’s is just a shame that we don’t have more public owned print media.
  3. I was responding to another posters post which is what people do on internet chat forums. If you don’t like political discussions I suggest that you avoid political threads (although you might struggle here as many of them end up going down that path anyway 😉). As for “normal people”, good luck with that.
  4. I don’t know what you have been looking at but most people would probably come to the conclusion that the majority of media companies in this country lean to the right. As for the BBC, I have seen plenty of people arguing that it leans towards the Tory party, their political editor gets plenty of stick for that reason. Depending where you look you will find people from both sides of the political divide accusing the BBC of bias, which probably means they have got things about right. We have one daily newspaper which is Left and that is the Mirror. The Guardian is liberal and was no friend of Corbyn. Most of our newspaper are owned by very rich people who want to stay that way, so they support right wing, capitalist politics. That self interest sometimes throws up some interesting curve balls like when Murdoch threw his clout behind Blair. To say that the state runs the press is nonsense. What is happening is that selfish, self serving businessmen will always back the horse that is better for their own interests. Not surprisingly that does not involve spending lots of money on social policies and supporting the underprivileged.
  5. Neither. Any other options?
  6. Perhaps it’s our diversity quota?
  7. The point you have missed is not whether or not FT was talking bollocks, it was that you feel that you are so important that your endorsement should make a difference. The credit goes to FT for getting it right, not to you for backing him up. The important thing here is the news, not your attempt to make it all about you again.
  8. Who is Dragan Slovak?
  9. Whilst we are still laughing at you for thinking that by giving that rumour your Turkish Seal of Approval you actually gave it some weight. It probably carries the same veracity as the dreaded vote of confidence given to football managers from their Boards. 😉
  10. Tella talked about the influence that Walcott has had on his development. You may recall the moment he scored and ran to celebrate with Walcott who was a sub at the time. If the young players are saying the old pros are beneficial to them, who are we to tell them otherwise?
  11. What is amusing Turkish is the way you manage to either turn virtually every thread into something about you, your petty squabbles with other posters and your constant need for attention, bless you. And before you state the obvious, yes I still have you on ignore but made an exception on this occasion and read a couple of your posts as I wanted to see how you would try and hijack this thread. I see you managed to get your dose of self importance in by giving a vote of confidence to the person from TUI who started this rumour a few days ago. Text book Turkish. Not to mention your Circle of Trust or whatever it is you call your list of ring kissers. You are truly an artist Turkish and if I wore a cap I would doff it in your direction. Keep up the good work. The internet needs more people like you to keep us amused. Oh, and if you have to explain a joke, it probably wasn’t worth making it in the first place 😉
  12. I think the only fact we can depend on is Turkish kissing his own ring!
  13. I don’t think we can assume that. It is possible that it had been completed but the club are waiting to announce it in their own time for whatever reason. It is also entirely possible that nothing at all had happened.
  14. The original post said that it “should be done by 29th/30th of this month”. This could mean that it hasn’t been completed yet or it has but the club are going to announce it in their own time (assuming it is happening at all).
  15. Just goes to show how people see the game differently. I thought Long played well yesterday and deserved the applause when he went off.
  16. Incredible. We take all 3 points off of West Ham after a battling performance and still some people feel the need to come on her and pick a fight. We won FFS! At least give the bickering a break until we lose again.

    Coronavirus

If your grandad was still alive and was more sensible than you, he would have the vaccine. If he is spinning in his grave now it is because he put his life on the line so that people like you can spread absolute bollocks to complete strangers on the internet with impunity.

    Coronavirus

You do know that the current vaccines are not brand new but are the product of years of work and have been tweaked to fight this particular virus? As for jumping when Johnson says jump, I doubt if anyone in their right mind pays any attention to the worst PM probably ever. I do think though that most rational people have weighed up the pros and cons and have made informed decisions, the main one being that the anti vaxxer conspiracy theories are total nonsense. If there is one thing to take away from the response to the pandemic it is this, that Darwinism is still prevalent amongst human beings.
  19. Still, at least we’ve got our country back 🙄
  20. I want a job where the work meetings consist of hanging out in the garden eating cheese and drinking wine. According to Raab it is all okay because they were wearing suits! 🙄
  21. It was a surprise because myself and the people I know of a liberal disposition feel that the party has more in common with the Labour Party than the Conservatives. If you recall the origins of the party came in part from a split from the Labour Party and the forming of the Social Democrats. Given the way that the LD vote fell away after Clegg’s dreadful decision I would say that I wasn’t the only one unhappy with the choice.
  22. More of an issue is the infighting in the Labour party between the Left and the moderates. They would prefer the Tories get elected than one or other side of the party get elected it seems. Starmer might not have a shedload of charisma but he is a solid, sensible character and would make a good PM. The far Left still side with Corbyn though despite him being an electoral liability. I have mostly voted LibDem but stopped when they handed power to the Tories which led to the nightmare of the last 11 years. I would like to see some kind of coalition between Labour and the LibDems and a concerted effort to get these awful people out of government.
  23. Great result. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for Johnson and his woefully inept government.
  24. Absolutely! He has fallen off the radar a bit of late and I would hate for him to drop out of the picture. 😉
  25. Just as you feel the need to speak out against “pinkos” and liberals, so I feel the need to speak out against those firmly stuck in the days of the British Empire up to the 1970’s. The likes of Laurence Fox, Katie Hopkins and Tommy Robinson and their many enablers do not deserve a free ride.
