It is truly bizarre isn’t it that a group of people, who claim not to be racist, spend so much time and effort digging out others who are anti racist over some people trying to do something about the issue of racism. You can bet your mortgage on those people replying to this post within seconds.

So unlike you to make snotty remarks about something you know absolutely nothing about🙄. If you had bothered to read what I said earlier rather than rush on and make a dig you would have seen that she/he was very shut down when we met. We shared many group therapy sessions and she didn’t open up with the help of trained therapists so why do you think she/he would confide in me? Those of us that knew them were all surprised when we found out that they had changed sex. I don’t even think that the therapists knew that was what was making them so unhappy. This was 17 years ago so perhaps harder to talk about then ? You may not give a “shiney shit” about what some people are going through and seem quite happy to go through life pretending that we are still in the 60’s and 70’s where “birds” and “chicks” are defined by how many pints you would have to drink before you deigned to have sex with them, but the world has moved on mate. We are still at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dealing with mental health and emotional health issues. Point scoring or making cheap digs does not help.

As you said before bullying doesn’t help. It clearly tips some people over the edge and even if it doesn’t cause suicide it makes many people’s lives a misery. That is why it should not be acceptable. As for what we are, we are far more than a bunch of organs and body parts. Our character and personality is something else entirely. Our body is not who we are, it is a vehicle that we travel through life in. Some people clearly feel unhappy and unnatural in the sex they are born into. We can argue all day about whether someone born with female body parts is a female or not, but if their consciousness is telling them otherwise, what difference does it make if they have female body parts? We are all more than the bits of flesh and bone which make up our physical appearances.

How is it a look at me post? I was just relating a tale about someone I know. It is about them not me. I get taken to task for talking about Islamophobia and racism when I don’t have mates who are Muslims or black. Now I get taken to task for knowing someone who is trans??? You people really need to make your minds up. Which is it to be? This is about them. It is not remotely about me so why you would say that? At the time I had no idea that she wanted to change her sex. It was only later after she had been through the procedure and had become a man that I found out that was the cause of their depression. The change in this person’s life has been amazing though and if you are right and everybody knows someone who is trans then I am surprised there are so many stupid and ill informed comments about cervix’s or other body parts.

A few years ago I befriended someone when spending some time in treatment in The Priory. She was very closed down, near suicidal and it took a while for her to come out of her shell. I never really understood what her issues were but she was a lesbian and I assumed that she was having problems coming to terms with that. We lost contact for a while when we left The Priory but a few years later this person got back in touch. She is now a he. He is married and they have a child. He is like a new person and is really happy with his new life and family. The transformation is incredible. It is easy to take the piss and make fun of people who believe that they were born in the wrong gender. Maybe we need to be more accepting about the fact that it is is not all about biology, but about what makes us us.

It’s a fair point though. Delldays didn’t kick off when Jo Cox was killed by a white supremacist but when I suggested that MPs (all of them) be given armed guards he comes back with his usual anti foreigner jibe. He only seems to have a problem with specific types of murderers.

I am sorry about your sad news. We have a relative and neighbours also fighting cancer at the moment and it seems that the battle has been made harder by the pandemic. It is good to read that you have had some positive news and I hope that this leads to better things for you both. Brilliant! Some people take ignorance to a whole new level, still, at least they give us plenty of material to laugh at. I am sure there are many more subjects that I have forgotten but they all have one thing in common, they all get those with far right sensibilities hot under the collar. They keep finding new ways to play down anything they don’t agree with. Recently it is labelling people “woke” in a pejorative sense. In this very thread my opinions, we are told, don’t count for anything because of where I live and who I befriend. I am tempted to mention the new drama on BBC1, Ridley Road, just to see how they manage to pick that apart whilst still keeping their, non partisan credentials in tact. Technically of course you are right but he had one parent who was Jewish and one who wasn’t so he grew up with two religions which is why he calls himself half Jewish. He is an atheist anyway so I don’t think we need worry about his description of himself too much.

I know Norm, but what a sub! It’s very hard to come up with a team of the best when there is so much quality to chose from. I nearly left MLT on the bench for Paine but in the end couldn’t do it. I could easily fill at least 2 more teams with real quality. Exactly right. Narcissists call other people names and belittle them because it makes them feel and (they think) look superior. They only look superior to their enablers. As well as our resident forum narcissist, people like Trump and Johnson do the same thing on a public platform. They have to have some level of lack of self awareness to think that they actually come across as anything other than obnoxious self promoting egotists.
